This is our second visit to Aulani. First being 2016. The grounds are spectacular, the staff is wonderful, and overall we had a nice visit. 2016 we had a regular room. This time because of a last minute booking, all that was left was a one bedroom suite. I think these are typically DVC rooms. The size was very nice for a family of four and having laundry in the room was amazing. I had everything clean before we went home. I was disappointed in the housekeeping of the room. The shower and bathroom were grimy and had hard water stains everywhere. Some mold too. The TVs were not HD and the signal kept cutting out. The WIFI was awful! Not the technology I expected from a Disney property. For the price we paid, those aspects did not meet our expectations. Hopefully I will be lucky enough to visit Hawaii again, but with teenage children, I may check out another resort before returning to Aulani.
Disappointing, overpriced and crowded
We arrived to the Aulani hotel after a great experience in the Westin Nanea in Maui. The rooms are extremely basic and not very comfortable. We paid 1200$ a night for a very basic room that smelled bad. the hotel is overcrowded with long lines for everything, from slides to the Valet parking. The bottom line is that you don't get much for your money! for everything you have to pay extra, so the only thing you actually get are the slides and pool (crowded and long lines). There is a reason that this hotel is ranked 5th place out of 5 hotels in Ko Olina.
If you love Disney and there first class service and entertainment then you wont be disappointed. Yes it is expensive but all Disney things are and we feel we are getting our moneys worth. We have been on Disney Cruises and vacations so this was a must.
Typical Disney style resort that is over-priced and over-crowded with people!
We stayed 3 nights at this resort recently and I can tell you I would not return! Let me first say that I am not a big Disney fan but my family is so I booked this resort for 3 nights to begin our Hawaii vacation. It is located in a very nice area and has a beautiful beach and a convenient shopping area directly across the street. The rooms are small and the prices are exorbitant, even for the island! The service is not great and the resort is extremely crowded, especially at the pools! We payed about $3k for 3 nights in a standard room and the TV didn't even work the entire time we were there. We had dinner at the buffet restaurant the first night and it was terrible and also very expensive. For the kind of money you are paying at this resort you could stay at the Four Seasons and you would get great service, which is totally lacking at the Aulani. They even charged us an extra $100 a night for the room when they found out we had 4 people staying (our two daughters, one age 10 and the other 20) in our room with two double beds. I will say that the restaurant that serves fried fish by the pool was pretty good and the luau, which was also very expensive, was quite entertaining and well done. It always amazes me how Disney can put out a sub-standard product, pack it with people, serve average food and the masses still come. I suggest everyone buy Disney stock because they are masters at making money! It is a shame because they really could provide a personalized, luxury experience for the kind of money they are charging. Aulani could be world class resort but instead they cram as many people as they can into a relatively small property and nickel and dime you for everything and they get away with it. If we do return to Oahu we will not be staying at this resort again!
I want to go back
Great hotel, great experience, great destination. Yes. It is pricey. It's Disney. But if you are going to Honolulu, and you can squeeze in an extra few days of an extravagant expenditure, then go for it. We made great memories in just a few days and yes, I would totally go back. SO much to do and so little time to do it. Very well organized and very well maintained. Again. It's Disney. Would you expect anything less? we loved it.
