The Good, The Bad & The Ugly!
What a beautiful resort & by far the best beach in Punta Cana, which is why I gave this resort an excellent rating. Staff is truly amazing & do their best to make you feel welcome. The grounds are gorgeous & well established. Resort is a bit dated & swim out rooms technically are not traditional swim-outs. One phone call to our UVC Rep & we were pleased to be upgraded to a Jr. Suite. You definitely don’t spend much time in the room, though. Food was a disappointment lacking flair & flavor. Buffet was very small with small variety to choose from - good for breakfast. Restaurants are difficult to get into without a wait. They say no reservations are needed but found if you pay extra for a butler, they’ll make reservations for you. I feel that is a very unfair business practice, however common with AM Resort properties. Swim up Bar area is continually filled with children. This should be restricted. Spa services are outstanding! Very good pricing on couples massage packages. Overall on this resort, the good out weighed the bad. For the price, we’d go back.
Wedding Sept. 2019!
My husband and I had our wedding here this past September! We stayed for a week, Wednesday through Wednesday, and were joined throughout the week by 80 members of our family/friends. When we arrived, we were very worried because it poured Wednesday through Friday afternoon, BUT it is hurricane season so we were not surprised. I was nervous because we had a walk through/rehearsal scheduled on the beach for Friday at 5pm. Thankfully the sun came out around 4pm and our rehearsal went on seamlessly. Amenities: I have been to several other resorts in Punta Cana and I will say the facilities here were dated. The honeymoon suite was nice, but even for a honeymoon suite it could have been a bit nicer. Also, for our family in regular rooms, for some reason there was a very high ledge to get into the shower and several of our family members almost fell getting in and out. The food was okay. As other reviews have mentioned not all restaurants were open daily, probably because it is off-season. I will say they did make a schedule available every night with the openings for the next day. Wish the buffet at least had a little bit more variety, but we found stuff and made it work. My family did LOVE the French restaurant the best, just an FYI. If someone like me does not want to pay additional for a formal rehearsal dinner, be mindful that even though it might be off-season they give a little bit of grief to accommodate larger groups. One of the nights about 60 of us were able to all sit in the same section of the Oceana restaurant but despite it being completely empty the hostess went back and forth with us for a while. Drinks: The drinks were not terrible, but be mindful since all the negative publicity they have stopped serving people shots. My husband and I are not heavy drinkers at all, but we were on vacation and would have preferred the drinks be made stronger. I will say some of the bartenders did hook the drinks up, and for our family who had preferred status the drinks made in the preferred lounge were significantly better. Spa: My husband and I had a 50 minute full body massage, OMG! I have never had a better scalp massage in my life. Multiple of our friends enjoyed their experience at the spa as well. Also, my bridal party (5 bridesmaids, 2 moms, and grandma) got their hair and makeup done at the spa salon and can I say they do an outstanding job. I had scheduled a hair trial for the day before the wedding, but cancelled it because I chose to go to the pool instead (hahahaha) and I was not disappointed the day of the wedding. My bridal hair and makeup was beautiful! The wedding: THE WEDDING/WEDDING DAY WAS AMAZING. There is a reason why this is a wedding destination. First, I was originally assigned the wedding coordinator Jouberkys Mercedes, who during the time that we worked together was very responsive, kind, and professional. Two weeks prior to the wedding, she informed me that she would be on vacation and another staff member, Andres Caraballo would be taking the lead for the wedding. Thankfully, I was a relatively low maintenance and low stress bride because anyone else would have freaked out, rightfully so. Despite this switch, ANDRES WAS THE BEST!!! The communication flowed well and he was on top of all our requests and specifications. We had our pastors from home fly to Punta Cana to marry us, so we did not experience the resort officiants, who to my understanding for us would have been our coordinator Andres. In regards to the food at the cocktail hour and reception, our family was very pleased. The DJ who did our reception was not terrible, and hit all our special moment songs, BUT he ignored most songs on a list we provided of songs we wanted to hear throughout the night. The MC was great though. I did not get her name, but she was communicative and very professional. We chose to go with the photographers at the resort, Adventure Photos. I would recommend to any future bride planning on doing the 'getting ready pictures' to ask the photographers to be early. They were not late, actually got there the hour prior to the ceremony as agreed, but that schedule felt VERY rushed. We chose the 8 hours of coverage (they HAVE TO BE continuous) and everything else was amazing, but we felt rushed taking pictures with the bridal party. Besides that the photographer, Joe, and the videographer Gabo were awesome!!! Do not be taken aback though like we were, our wedding was on Saturday and they had all the pictures ready by Tuesday. The editing is not something out of this world, BUT the shots were very beautiful. If you are into the airbrushing, retouching, etc, etc, you might want to keep this in mind. We are still waiting for our wedding video but they stated that would take several weeks, understandably. I would also recommend you choose to leave a whole hour between ceremony and the beginning of the cocktail hour. If I could do it again I would have advocated for this because we weren’t able to take part in the cocktail hour due to our newlywed photo session (We did not do a first look, which was an option). Besides that, the decorations were beautiful! We chose to switch the reception to the Portofino (Italian) restaurant at the last minute and were able to receive a discount on the additional cost of using this location. We also added the 3D dance floor last minute, which was great for the party portion but was a little much for the first dances and the dinner portion. We chose the Dreams Ultimate package, but be mindful that everything is additional. The package includes the bare minimum for 20 guests, anything above that is an additional fee. We spent 20k for 83 guests and lots of upgrades. Compared to a wedding in NYC that's 'budget friendly' but I wish someone would have mentioned that to us early. OVERALL, Dreams can throw a party! Our wedding really was ABOVE AND BEYOND our expectations! Our joy the day of the wedding overshadowed any small glitches. My husband and I just wished we could relive that day, without the cost of it of course (hahaha). I would definitely recommend this as a wedding destination.
