We checked into the Riu yesterday afternoon and were given a room. When we got to our room, the mini fridge was in the middle of the floor with the door open and a towel in it. We called down to reception and got another room. This was late in the day. In the night, we realized the air conditioning wasn’t working and our coffee maker didn’t work in the morning. We advised the front desk of these issues. They sent maintenance guys to look at the a/c but so far they haven’t been able to fix it. Our coffee maker is still broken and our room hasn’t been made up, even though all the cleaners are off the floor. A couple of years ago we stayed at the Sandals resort in Ocho Rios and loved it. The Riu, not so much. Unfortunately we are here with a group of people for a friend’s wedding so I don’t want to be a pain to the group. Riu, surely you can do better than this. People spend their hard earned money staying here and we expect things to work
The hotel is fabulous, friendly staff and amazing facilities. Will definitely be visiting again. I have stayed at this hotel both before and after the refurbishment and the changes made make the hotel amazing. Plenty of pools, plenty of loungers, lots of activity during the day, entertainment in the evening. The only thing missing is the pachaa disco.
Ready to go back!!!
Perfect vacation. amazing remodel. Fast and pleasant check in & out. Rooms were cleaned everyday, housekeeping was amazing (even took in clothes from outside) we only ate at the buffet which was awesome. Variety of food, Jamaican, american, Italian, Chinese, seafood, you name it it was there. the nightly shows and band was great, beach was clean, enough lounge chairs, quiet. one thing which would make it even better is if there was bar service on the beach.. there is a bar on the beach but you have to get it. other than that would definitely go back
Unfortunately star rating for this hotel should be 3 and not 5 star. Reception/gym/restaurant area is kept clean however the rooms are not. Plenty of moths, mosquitoes (which is expected) but too many cockroaches. We had to ask on numerous occasions if our room could be cleaned which a few times ignored. Food was average mainly catered for the Americans who often filled their plates up out of greed and would waste it. Expect long queues when the Americans tend to serve themselves and leave very little for others. If you are looking for authentic jamaican food do not select this hotel. For real authentic food recommend Beachs or iberostar hotel. Positive note - Jamaica is worth visiting and will be going back next year but not to Riu hotel.
My first time at Ocho RIU it was wonderful from you go through the main gate the front desk team was great the place is something else well I'm a foodie and in that department the food turn up breakfast check lunch jerk chicken and dinner check room on point the water is something you have to try out it niceeeee overall i have great fun . My next stop is the RIU In Negril . I also had the best drivers ive met since travelling I found some good reviews for a company name Top choice Jamaica Tours and found there private service to be not just professional but fun drivers who give you allot of information about the island. They meet you right outside the airport and very easy to book online so I defitnety have to say everything was perfect in Jamaica .
