Ok but needs a face lift
Took a while to write my review but here goes. So Aruba itself is great, stunning beaches and feels very safe when going for a stroll away from the hotel. Staff and locals are very friendly. Now on to the hotel etc. Food on the whole I thought was pretty good, plenty of choice. With regard to the hotel, especially the rooms I feel it could do with a face lift. Maybe close it for a complete refurb? This criticism is based on what I paid for this holiday, just over £7,000 for a family of three! I have recently visited a RIU in the Maldives which cost less but was on a completely different level. (Yes I know the Maldives one is brand new). I feel with the dated style of rooms and pool area at the Palace Aruba maybe £3k to £4K would be a fairer price for travellers from the UK?? It hasn’t put me off visiting Aruba again but I wouldn’t entertain staying at the Palace. Oh, finally, there was a rather nasty smell at times wafting through the reception area near the sports bar, not all the time but now and again!
Location, Location, Location
This hotel has a great location. It is very clean and has a great pool area and magnificent beach area. It is very safe area. Customer Service needs improvement with the exception of the restaurants and buffet. The buffet area is run very efficiently by the servers and they are quick to meet your needs. Food is above average in the buffet. The restaurants need to have more variety in each location except buffet. Requested low floor due to disabilities 6 months in advance and understood that it would not be guaranteed. Called the week before as a reminder. AT check in Was told did not have room on low floors and that the next day we could move from 6th floor to low floor. That did not happen. Also, when needed more towels had to wait three hours and two phone calls. Same with wanting water/soda in the room. Called twice one night and it never happened. Next day called and the water/soda showed up an hour later. Can't even go get it yourself. Also, you must be physically present to check out so they can cut off your wristband. When we left to visit friends in another hotel the afternoon before our scheduled check out, we asked if we could turn the towel cards in and the wristband in case we didn't come back (had a tour the next day and weren't sure if we were going to stay at friends place that night). Were told under no circumstances that we could do that and so we had to check out then even though we had already paid until the next day. Location is very quiet and family oriented.
After reading some reviews on a travel site we became a littles apprehensive. With that being said we where not disappointed. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. From an all inclusive perspective (and I don’t drink) the food was good with endless politics on the buffet. The two sit down restaurants we ate at have had great food. The rooms where very clean and well attended. Water and the mini bar where continuously stocked. We also had spa treatments again no different than a Ritz Carlton spa. Room service daily for our coffee was a nice perk. Pool attendants where always a viable and never a wait for a beverage. The overall decor was a bit outdated but not offensive. Actually for us 80’ girls it was funny. The Casino did leave much to be desired. Actually it was small and dingy with many machines not functioning. But hard to compare since all Aruba casinos where relatively small when Atlantic City is a hop skip and jump away from home. There are small luxury features that sell the resort short. But nothing that would deter a return visit!!!!
Excellent Vacation in the Riu Palace Aruba
Aruba is a really safe island. Main street Irausquin there is alot of restaurants, Casinos, shops, nightlife and lots of music and light shows We rented a jeep and visited the island (Lighthouse - nice view, Donkey sanctuary, museum of aloe, Zeerover restaurant - a must, natural bridge etc..) We when to Oranjestad for shopping with the local bus right next to our hotel (cost 2US$ for small bus and 2,60US$ for big bus - one way) We reserved from Montreal the Pinchos Grill restaurant (on the pier) for one night. The food, the music and the view was amazing My wife and I stayed at RIU Palace Aruba from January 25 to February 8 2020 via Air Canada. This was the first stay at this resort. The temperature during our two weeks was between 35-37 C with a lot of wind. Don't forget your clips to hold the towels on the beach chairs. Reception: The reception bellboy took our suitcases from the bus, we had a quick checkin and got our room card with a welcome drink. The reception bellboy brought the suitcases to our room. King size bed, junior suite, however the room needs alot of remodeling. The mini bar was always replenished. Beach: No seaweeds to be found on the Palm beach. The Beach was ABSOLUTELY magnificent !! The water was clear blue/green. Losts of chairs, however no umbrellas. All the chairs were locked until 9 h 00 am, Their were around 60 palapas however every morning we got to the beach early, they were all reserved. We found out later that you had to pay the beach boys to reserve the palapas, what a gamick!! Between the sand of the beach and the hotels, is a paved path where the people were jogging, walking day and night. Beach Bar : The drinks were amazing, thanks to our bartenders. Also we had special lunchs and drinks around the pool. The Hotel Grounds: The outside areas around the resort is very beautiful and clean. Food: * No need to reserve for all of the a la carte restaurants * The Food and the service were excellent in the a la carte and the buffet restaurants Japanese - special thanks to Ana, Eliana and Eduardo Italian - special thanks to Josefina and Tatiana Steak House - special thanks to Tahiri Krystal - special thanks to Veronica and Jonathan Don Nicolas (Buffet) breakfast and lunch - special thanks to Julia, Elizabeth and Miguel for their friendship Bar and Capuchino Coffee shop : The best drinks, coffee and desserts. Special thanks to Marlenis, Sandra and Terrence for the fantastic service and their friendship Entertainment: Really really poor. Free WIFI: all around the resort and even on the beach Special thanks to our housekeeper and friend Luz who help us from the first night we arrived until the last Overall: Very happy with the resort and would highly recommend it.
Amazing hotel, food and location!
This review is objective and by experienced travellers who have been all over the Caribbean (a dozen plus islands) at 5-star resorts. This hotel is a 5-star experience and we are confused by some of the reviews being very negative. Rooms - we stayed in building B on the 7th floor. The room was extremely clean, spacious, in great condition and beautiful view of the water and pool. Some people mentioned rust on the lights and yes there is...however it is the hot and humid Caribbean where that would happen quickly and the lights work perfectly. The air conditioning is quite cold at times, but can be shut off, which we did and used the ceiling fan only at night. There are options to get the right temperature for you. Food - what more could you need. I do not understand the negative reviews here, as we love quality food and this delivers. The buffet is super diverse and delicious whether you want healthy options or not and the lunches and dinners vary the menu quite a bit with different themes. Even the sushi night was top notch. Entertainment - pretty solid. There was an impressive acrobat show with one performer as good as cirque. One singer was so amazing, as good as any professional. There are shows that involve the audience also. The rooms in building B have a view of the stage, which is nice if you want to watch from your balcony. Location - amazing!!! The beach is incredible and the wind keeps you cool pretty much all day. You definitely need to be aware and apply sunscreen regularly with not feeling as hot. Being able to walk to shopping and nightlife quickly and safely is amazing. We have 13 and 10 year old daughters and would walk anywhere feeling safe. There were very few children considering the size of the resort. Service - top notch! Definitely no issues, very friendly, consistent and quick. I think if anyone has issues, it may just be an unusual situation or perhaps having standards that can never be met. We also recommend the Outback Safari tour through Around Aruba tours. Overall, very happy with the resort and would highly recommend. It is quality all around in our experience. My parents and others we know have been here and say the same, so try not to put too much weight on the odd bad review. Thanks Riu!
