I've stayed at many places in the Caribbean and this has got to be my favorite place so far. We came during Covid so were unsure what to expect but this place really out did themselves. The hotel had to be at less than half capacity. The beach and pool always had less than a dozen people in them. The rooms were cleaned TWICE a day with fresh towels. Everyone wore masks and took our temperature every time we walked into the restaurants. And staff members were cleaning constantly. The pools, the floors outside and inside, everything. They kept everything so nice and very very clean, which definitely put my nerves at ease. The view and beach at this hotel are also definitely above the rest. We walked along the beach, passing by about half a dozen hotels. The Riu definitely had the cleanest beach. The staff there were also out of this world. My mom has a gluten allergy and the head chef came over to the table to tell her what she can and can't have every night. He even hand delivered a dessert to our table that we had been discussing. So so nice. The other staff members were just as kind and attentive. The only downfall would be that since not many people were at the hotel, not all the restaurants/bars were open in the hotel. Completely understandable, but definitely would want to come back to see the atmosphere when everything is open. I know I'll be back to Aruba many many times and will definitely be staying here.
Beautiful Beach/ Great Staff
We've traveled a lot and have seen many beautiful beaches across Caribbean. The beach in RIU Palace is amazing, water is very warm and still. There are great people working, they all were very nice, attentive, and accommodating. The rooms are spacious. Cleaning service is twice a day and the towels are newer and thick) lol, which I personally like very much. One thing was disappointing to us is the bedding. Could be better. Other than that I would recommend the place.
I so wanted this to be good
We just did 7 days at a timeshare resort which was very nice, and thought we would cap it off with a weekend at a all inclusive before going home. We have been to many all inclusive Infact I owned at the Sandos resorts at one point. We heard so many good things on trip advisor so we thought we would give it a chance. I understand cause of Covid every thing is cut back on and we Noticed that at a lot on island shopping is shutdown. A lot of resteraunts has only limited menus. What we experienced here was the only resteraunt they had opened for our weekend was the buffet. And you had to ask for salt and pepper for everything g as they did not season anything. Now when you pay 450 a day and all you have to eat is buffet food you feel pretty cheated. The entertainment poolside was decent but the swim up pool bar was shut down to what seemed due to limited staff. They put us in a room that had two queen beds pushed together and called it a king. It’s our honey moon I really did not want to be laying on a crack all night cuddling with my new wife. The room was musty and dated and the tiles were falling out of the pool. Can’t really blame that on Covid. We knew we would have a quiet relaxing quiet trip but when you pay for all inclusive prices you expect quality food choices and that was not here. I qualify this place currently at 1/2 the price we payed. We had heard that this resort is so much better food and entertainment in past years, I hope it does change but at these prices I don’t think we will Chance it when we have so many options.
A Piece of Paradise
We had to cancel our trip to Cayman in March 2020 due to Covid so we were REALLY looking forward to this one. Riu didn’t disappoint. They truly did an amazing job given the circumstances they have to deal with. The resort was only 12% full so for us, it was nice! We just about owned the beach and pool. The staff still kept it business as usual, though despite the lack of guests. Games, water zoomba, questions of the day, live music at nite. Water sports were still up n running on the beach as well. The resort was clean and you could smell the bleach. Made me feel good to see all the extra disinfecting going on. Hand sanitizer available everywhere and masks were required when social distancing wasn’t possible. All employees were in masks all the time! They only had one restaurant open and there was a buffet for the 3 main meals. Dinner included an ala cart menu as well so you could do either. The food was yummy. Kudos to the chef for adjusting food amounts being served to keep the food hot n fresh! Not an easy thing to do. They have people serving the food to you at the buffet and there are “sneeze guards” I’ll call them in front of the food on our side. You MUST wear your mask when walking around the restaurant and when getting your food. It can be removed at your table. They are taking your temperature as you enter the restaurant. Our room was very clean but a bit humid for me. It did dissipate within a day. A warning.. don’t leave your door open to the balcony. The humidity makes your floor VERY slippery. Only other thing I didn’t like in the room was there’s no vent in the bathroom. 🤔 They are only allowing 4 people in the elevators at a time. The coffee shop was open as was the gym. Only the bar by the pool was open. Yummy drinks! We walked to an area with other restaurants and shopping. It’s only like a half mile. This was my second trip back to Aruba and second time at the Riu. Overall, an excellent stay despite a virus running around. Excellent job by all at the resort being accommodating, friendly and clean!!
Much needed respite!
Just returned from two weeks at the RIU Palace. We tested negative in NYC and said "why wait- let's go!" Though we had a written notice of negative COVID-19 results, they were not accepted at the airport. However, the airport testing unit was very organized and we were tested and out of the airport quickly- less than an hour. At the RIU we had to stay in our room until the results came back. That took only about 6 hours. The hotel provided us with meals and drinks while we waited. We wish we had known before hand that there was no room service (for morning coffee!) but other than that we really enjoyed the hotel. We have been returning to the Palace or the Antilles for years. As always, the staff was lovely! Rina and Diego at the lobby bar. Kelly, Julia, Marisol, Lina and Madelyn serving up coffee and water and smiling eyes at the breakfast and lunch buffet. I wish I could remember who was staffed at reception as they were as always, efficient, friendly and helpful. Yes, there were only two of the restaurants and the buffet open each evening but that was enough variety for us. Definitely a different experience as there were few guests but we were in Aruba and very happy! Looking to return soon.....
