Fantastic Family Getaway with Stunning Ocean Views and Fun Pools, Despite Average Food

Myself, my wife and two daughters stayed here for one week. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a glass of sangria, which was incredibly refreshing! Our luggage was loaded onto a trolley and we were promptly checked in. The room numbers are quite confusing to start (room 1538, you'd expect to be on floor one -- this is correct -- the floor is the second number; the room number are the last two). We had an ocean-view room -- this was a truly spectacular view! The room itself wasn't anything special. We had two double beds and my daughters had to share theirs. It was a first but an experience all the same. The room served its purpose which was the main thing. Shortly after arriving in our room for the first time, our luggage arrived and was loaded in by a helpful worker. A 200 MXN tip was greatly received! After settling in our room, we quickly headed to explore. We headed to the slides since my eldest daughter was super excited to see them; we spotted a little beauty spot for people to stand in and admire the view or have a photo with the gorgeous beach! After a few days, we went into Cancun to explore. We had a dab at the flee market and I managed to haggle 200 MXN off a product and bought it for 150 MXN. When e were finished, we went to the shopping centre across the road (where Coco Bongo's is) and I saw the same thing for 90 MXN -- have a shop in there before going to the flee market! The Pools The pools were all great, no complaints were to be had for any of them. There was one misunderstanding which was the Pirate Pool (with the yellow castle area), only older children could go on the bigger slides and younger ones could only go on the first half of the pool area. This separated my daughters because the big one wanted the slides. The Food The food was OK -- this was the biggest disappointment of the whole holiday and it was really that disappointing. The food, while plentiful, was very much the same each nice. They had an area for themed nights which offered a small variance in food but, other than that, it was the same. We booked into the Italian restaurant which was good and had a nice ambiance. It also featured a little river with a bridge over, like you might see in Venice. Nice touch and good photo point! The bar snacks were really good; chips, chicken nuggets, burgers and some other small bits -- there was a salad bar so you could dress your burger as fancy as you liked or just have bread and burger -- nice, quick and easy. Tips We read that tipping was big in Mexico and we were a little unsure -- turns out, no where expects tips but when you do, people really appreciate it. Currency We didn't take any USD even though a lot of reviews suggested you do. We spent only pesos (and was called "wise" by some Mexican's for doing so) and spent on card (in pesos). --- All in all, we loved the holiday, it was incredible -- beautiful and scenic. There was a lot of seaweed which we a bit of an eye sore but other than that, we have no real complaints. We will definitely be returning to Mexico!

An employee opened our door at 1am on the first night.

This was the worst resort stay I have ever had! Employee opened our door at 1am. Room not cleaned entirely before checkin No AC Lost power to our room Food was "edible" according to one of their employees. Our friends had no running water for a day Ridiculous towel service Ridiculous use restrictions of the "Costco" bonus and more. I don't like to complain but if I can help one family not have the experience we had then it was worth it. I will say everyone other than the front desk was pleasant and helpful! An Employee thought it was ok to open the door at 1am! Back story. After we checked into the room we noticed the mini fridge was a disaster. So I immediately went to the front desk to make them aware of the situation. They said they would send someone right away (4pm.) We went to the beach and pool to kill some time while the "fridge was cleaned." Around 7 we went back to the room and the fridge was still not cleaned. Figured they have a circus show at 8:30 so why don't I let the front desk know we will still be out the room until the circus is over. so we went back to the room around 10pm and it still wasn't clean. O well they will fix it in the morning luckily we had the water we brought with us. Fast forward to 1 am when an employee opened the door without knocking or ringing the door bell. When I confronted the man he starts talking on his radio. I yell at him get away from the door and it was not ok for him to enter our room. First thing in the morning I went to the front desk to tell them it was not ok to enter the room at 1 am. They blamed me and said I had left the door open. I told them that was not possible since I purchased an alarm that I placed behind the door and before setting it I double checked the lock, chain and deadbolt. He argued with me and said it was my fault. I went back later to speak with someone else and he said they would review the camera footage and get back with me. Also no one has came back to look at the fridge so I reminded them and showed them pictures again (11am.) Fast forward the room was getting HOT and so I asked them if they had another room we could move to. Was told no they were sold out. We go out to the beach which was very nice and spent the day at the beach. Fridge was still not cleaned or taken care of when we got back around 7pm. Now the room is hotter inside than outside. I ask for another room and same story. I was told that the AC for the entire hotel was out and being worked on. It was so hot that people were sleeping with their front doors propped open to get the airflow. They didn't know we had friends we were traveling with and their room was nice and cool. At around 8 pm a cleaning lady came in and looked at the fridge. She was shocked by its appearance and said she couldn't clean it til the morning because the mess was frozen. No worries they finally cleaned it on Wednesday morning. Fast forward til Wednesday night 10pm - we go out to eat and come back and the power is not working to our room. I go down to complain and they asked if I knew how to operate the room key correctly. When I tell him that the AC is not even blowing hot air anymore he said he knew and several people have called him about the same problem. After a few hours I go down and demand another room. FINALLY he said he would have one ready for me in about 20 minutes. We pack up but the room was not ready til 12:50am. The new room had a leak in the bathroom and smelt like mildew but the AC worked and the fridge had bottled water so why complain. I could go on about how the food was subpar and one employee's reply "it's edible" when asked how an item was. We would of overlooked food if the hotel was operational. Positives- The beach and employees other than the front desk who I believe is jaded because of the amount of complaints they get. We were not the only ones complaining.

    Good Choice

Great hotel, i will come back. The views are spectacular and the 8th floor lounge is great with great service. We recommend you to bring dress clothes if you want to do reservations at the French Restaurant or they won’t let you in. Adults pool is great for relaxing and enjoy delicious refreshments..

Bell hop service was great by Jesus and Benito! Very attentive to us and made sure we did not have to pick any of our bags up and load them on and off the cart or into the van. 🚐 You will be well taken care of by the bell/car hop services provided via the hotel.

    Room for improvement

After 5 nights, I am back home and happy to be so. The hotel is a 3 star and I rate it that because of the employees outside of the front desk. The food was good. Plenty of it. Never ran out. The employees are on top of the mess the ignorant guest leave all over. Of the 5 nights I was there, the air conditioning worked ONE NIGHT!!!! I called multiple times for them to say it was fixed as a whole but my room was still not working. I asked to speak to a manager and 4 hours went by and still no manager. It felt like 103 degrees and we had no air. It literally ruined my hotel stay. When you shower, water leaks out of the showers all over the floors. Id it rained, all the hallways were wet and very slippery. I saw throw up in the hall way for 2 days. The beach was basic. Very rough waves but nice clear water. There was a decent amount of seaweed. You have to book the restaurants on the phone and if you don't book at 8am when it becomes available, you won’t get a special dinner that night. Room service takes long, if the answer but the food was excellent.
