Check in was disappointing. The front desk attendant tried to say he couldn't find one of my reservations, and then when I requested to have a room with 1 king bed he told me they were out prior to even checking his system. Which didnt sit well with me. I booked two rooms, 1 for myself and the other for my best friend. My room was an ice box!! Set at 15 degrees celcius! When I called the front desk and asked about how to change the thermostat, I was told sorry ALL the rooms are cold and are at a set temperature, which cannot be adjusted! Which I found very strange. Then he offered me additional blankets if needed. The furniture is outdated and the bed decor had stains on it. The bathroom has no ventilation so needless to say when showering, the steam builds up and leaves the room very damp. There are no bathtubs as well (just in case anyone wanted to know). The shower is a half door design, which is pretty but allows for water all over the floor while showering. My best friends room smelled like mold. The walls, ceiling, and curtains, were all covered in it. Needless to say, they had to have a room change. How was this room even still open is beyond us, with the amount of work that needs to be done in there. They eventually got a room change about 4 hours later, which also had issues with being hot, due to the AC not working. Another aggravation. The maintenance guy came up and was able to "disable" the switch in the ceiling to allow for adjustments of the AC settings. In essence, the rooms have been a disappointment. Needs some upgrading, ASAP. The food has been pretty good at all the buffets, as well as the drinks. However, there is lack a selection of beers, which they only seem to carry Lite beer. Which for "All inclusive " you would think they would have a variety of drinks to satisfy different pallets. The restaurants and lobby looked nice and clean. Entertainment in the evening was dry...some music playing in the Calypso room but not much action going on at all. Overall, I give this hotel 3 stars but its definitely not living up to its 5-star brand. Will not be returning in the future.
October 9 Girls Trip
We were a party of 28 women on a Girls Trip! The staff and customer service was great however, I was very disappointed with the condition of the rooms. We had a terrible mildew smell in our room. We reported it to the front desk but nothing was done to change our rooms. The other issue we encountered was the TV didn't work and the sound on the channel wasn't working. The last night were there I had two water bugs/roachs coming from the bathroom drains. I wouldn’t return to this resort but the staff and food was amazing!
Great mini getaway
it was a great mini getway. hotel was very clean, room were big and comfortable, very clean and beds were comfortable. everything worked in the room. the staff was very freindly. A great white sandy beach but you could not swim in the ocean, at this time of the season it had hgh waves and current that could was you into the ocean. We always ate at the buffet because the Al'cart resturants were always busy and it was 1st come 1st served so people would would line up 1 hr before they open. We were a group of 6 and no one hade any conplaints about the food at the buffet. We stayed at 5 different Riu resorts and they all had a better veriety than this Riu, but like I said we had no complaints. wheather was great average 30 degrees. the Atlantice was a 5 min drive away.
Great Beach.... snorkeling....relaxed....!
Check in was smooth and front staff polite. At check in very little information provided as how dining for dinner really works, like it is a well kept secret and it takes you asking multiple people to get an answer. I found if you want to have dinner other than the buffet it is best to be in front of your restaurant lined up by 5:45 and treat it like happy hour in the lobby. It worked out great if you are traveling with other couples so you did not all have to be there at that time, you could hold spot and then others join you closer to dining time which they opened at 6:30. If you did not do this you will find yourselves at buffet many nights which had great food too! Jerk station at pool for lunch was awesomen Service throughout dining was very good and food quality very good. Beach: swimming beach, waves and snorkel right at hotel was great. Beach area itself could have been cleaner as far as plastic left from drinks. There was NO beach drink service, you had to go to pool bar to get any drink. This was not a problem for me personally but if this is what you expect when you travel to a beach resort it it is not there. There are NO water sports such as ocean kayaks, snorkeling equipment, paddle boards provided at this All Inclusive. They are available on beach from outside supplier at cost along with jet skis, parasailing etc for fee/cost. Again, not a problem for me because had my own snorkel equipment and I expect to pay for motorized sports but at other RIu Resorts I have stayed non-motorized equipment was complimentary. Pool: nice area with beautiful view of ocean, great music and nice activities around the pool area throughout the day. Night Entertainment : No comment Next door you can easily walk to Atlantis for more night time adult entertainment. Bellman: Great service, very helpful. Rooms: Very clean, spacious and beds very comfortable. Climate control in room was challenge. Tour Desk: Easy to work with, helpful... two tour operators there, check out both because they do have some different choices. Overall: I would return knowing it is a small moderate resort. Easy mobility ...loved the beach and food/drink good. It is a moderate all inclusive, if you are looking for high end this would not be the place but it is not a budget property.
Very nice renovated hotel
Stayed here a couple of times before, convenient location, clean place with great service. Food variety could be better, but still okay. The beach is very nice. The large pool with warm water was a blast - we loved it.
