Diego and Jamie took amazing care of at this resort. These two would do what ever it took to to get us ever we wanted, and the response time was within minutes. These two would get us what ever we wanted when ever we wanted it, whether it was at 9 am or 3 am. Best service, super friendly and very comforting individuals.
I would love to have given this hotel a 5 star review, but there were just a few small niggles that prevented me from doing so. I will list them below but then follow with what we thought was excellent otherwise. 1. Although the restaurants were very nice and the food was excellent, the wait time between couses was a little longer than we would have liked. 2. Although the food was top quality, it could have been served hotter. 3. In 3 of the resteraunts men are required to wear long trousers, we felt that smart tailored shorts should be acceptable, especialy as women can, and in somer cases did, wear just about anything. 4. We had an issue with the A/C that oters we spoke to had the same problem. Whatever we set it to, mainly 20 degrees, it kept defaulting back to 22.5. Hopefully that can be remedied. On a positive note, all of the waiters, bar tenders and entertainment staff were amazing, It is so hard to pick one person out in particular so for me the people who stood out as exceptional were Jonathan and Adrian from the bar who remembered favoured drinks and made sure we were not kept waiting. From the entertainment staff: Yessica, Emanuel, Angelise were amazing, and Paul who was checking daily that everything was satisfactory. In general I would have liked to give 4.5 rather than 4, but it wasn't an option. .
Secrets The Vine - Good but not Great
Firstly a quick overview of us for context. We are a couple between 25 and 30 and this is our 3rd visit to Mexico and is without doubt our favourite holiday destination. Room 3/5 (floor 18) - Average for 5* in area. - Lack of food in mini fridge. - Air Con, bed and IPad (in place of finding things out through the TV) are good. - Sound proofing not great but any noise late at night isn’t the hotel it will be people staying up on balconies. - View due to the nature of the hotel should have you facing the Hard Rock or Sandos which means a view of both ocean and lagoon which is nice. Food 3/5 - Dress Code high class vs Food Quality which is average. - Limited selection in restaurants (buffet is good though). Service 4/5 - Maids excellent (Clara) - Bar servers hit and miss but overall good with some stand outs David (Vine Lounge) Ray / Ellules / Dany / Luis (Outside Vine Bar) Eduardo (Buffet). - Sports bar excellent from all servers during our time (unfortunately didn’t get there names). - Security very good and friendly. Feel safe within the resort. Entertainment 3/5 - Quality vs quantity an issue - Violinist, Saxophonist, Guitarist, Pianist and singers all very high standard but just doesn’t go on long enough. This goes for shows too. Karaoke lovers however you’ll be happy! - No music throughout the night which makes the environment very canteen like (then randomly playing music when musicians are playing). - Plentiful activities throughout the day and not pressured to participate - the entertainment team are very good in terms of generating a fun environment when doing the activities. - English note - fans of Football I would recommend getting to the sports bar about 30mins before the game starts - it is a major struggle for them to find English Football games if they can at all. Missed most of the last game of the season and completely missed the FA Cup Final. Facilities 4/5 - Gym great and amazing view from treadmills and cycling machines. - Pools average but good coverage by sun making them a relief later in the day and not cold. - Anti-Smoking with only 1 area for smoking in the hotel. No smoking on balcony which is a little annoying. - Drinks are actual measures in most cases so if drinking cocktails requires a lot to feel tipsy. - No cocktail menu unless you ask and then very small even though they will make you whatever you want but sometimes good to browse. - Beach classic Cancun nice when seaweed is low. - Cleanliness is exceptional so big shout out to the maintenance and cleaning teams. There seems to be an undertone of pressure for staff to sell wine or tequila, also as mentioned in other comments if you don’t buy wine you tend to get non preferential seats in restaurants (this to be fair didn’t mean a lesser service) which didn’t bother us but might others looking for the high end experience. Overall friendliness is outstanding, smiling and saying ‘hola’ etc... so even though we haven’t mentioned many names it’s not to say a lot didn’t play their part in a nice holiday experience. In summary (3.5/5) when I reflect I would say this is a very, very good hotel but I think struggles with identity. Feels like it wants to be very high end but not truly delivering on it. Standards are clearly very high but entertainment and food quality fell slightly short. It’s not a never again by any stretch but i don’t think this was the hotel for us. I could imagine this is an excellent hotel for older couples. We weren’t wanting or expecting nightclubs but the Hard Rock was probably more to our taste.
My first time to Cancun
Let me start by saying this resort is one of a kind it has it all. From the moment you arrive you are greeted with a welcome beverage and while you are checking in your bags are already being delivered to your room. Secrets has many options for your food options and I found all of them to be very good. The staff at Secrets were top notch the breakfast buffet was excellent with many options and Ernesto runs a tight ship with all your wants being satisfied very quickly another great option at The Market Cafe was the Mimosa and Bloody Mary bar was a great way to start the day. Also would like to say that our waiter Jaun in the Sea Salt Grille was really a good guy and was very thorough. The Sugar Reef Bar was my place to spend my afternoons with Ashlar and Lucas making fabulous drinks and friendly demeanor. Overall I gove this place an 11 the entire staff was friendly greeting you with a good morning good afternoon if you were talking to them or just passing by. The other thing I liked about this place is that it's adults only because when you are wanting a vacation with your significant other it's nice not having a lot of screaming kids. Overall Secrets is a beautiful resort spacious rooms comfortable beds complete with turn down service every night I will recommend to everyone going to Cancun to look at this resort as a great option and for those of you that didn't enjoy your stay I am sorry because you truly missed out on beautiful vacation.
Great value and location
The preferred suites are the way to go. Great view of ocean. Very quiet and secure. Rooms were clean and staff was very friendly. Nebbiolo Ristorante has outstanding cuisine and the service was great as well. I would avoid Dragons, the Asian restaurant. Food and service were below average. Overall a good place to spend Cancun vacation.
