Good accommodation, but ...
Spacious room, very comfortable bed, shower that works - in fact everything in the room worked, and a couple of comfortable chairs and a table outside overlooking a private garden. But have plenty of mosquito spray. The bungalows are well spaced apart, separated by trees/garden, etc. But some of the units are a fair distance from reception and although they have tricycles for the staff to get to the rooms, they do not use them for delivery and pickup of bags, which is just poor service. The village is pretty close so, there are other options in the Yacht Club for cheaper meals and drinks, the supermarket to make your own breakfast/lunch, and a little bit further down the road, a crepes food truck. Do venture not so far past that to the Distillerie for some interesting liquors to sample and buy.
Wonderful Oasis to Stay At While on Huahine
We stayed in a partial overwater bungalow (premium lake view) that overlooked a beautiful pond filled with lily pads, fish and eels for 4 nights. We really enjoyed using this resort as a home base while we explored the island and the lagoon. The bungalows are separated enough so you don't really see or hear anyone else up close. You feel like you are in your own private cocoon. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, the A/C could be a little stronger, but it was fine. Beware that you will hear roosters crowing and wild dogs barking at early hours! But earplugs solved that problem. The facilities are immaculate and staff is constantly mopping the black slate floors in the public spaces. The hotel was built next to an architectural site where they found pottery that shows the Polynesians traveled farther and earlier than they thought. In designing and decorating the bungalows, the hotel incorporated little touches to reflect the early culture and pottery, like gigantic sinks shaped like canoes. It gives the hotel a bit more individuality than your standard stock hotel. I was a little concerned that the cutouts in the high walls of the bungalow (see photo attached to the review) would let too much light in in the mornings, but it wasn't a problem for us. The concierge gave very good advice on picking tours. The restaurant's food for lunch and dinner was pretty good. The breakfast buffet was adequate, although I would have liked a bit more freshly made warm dishes and more variety. The pool is nice, and the beach, while small, has a gorgeous view. There was never, however, a problem getting a lounge chair that looked out on the water when I wanted to relax. The sunsets from the beach near this property were absolutely phenomenal. Different, but still spectacular, each evening. I never knew I could take that many pictures of the sun setting. I would go back in a heartbeat if I stayed in Huahine again.
We stayed three days. Upon arrival we had two bottles of water in the little frige our entire stay. The airconditioner could have been better. No place to put away luggage. Breakfast was included in the rate, but breakfast was terrible. Pre-made eggs, bacon was not cooked. Dinner was very good every night. Grounds was beautiful. Did not enjoy the beachfront property. Would not select this property again.
As a group of 8 we stayed 2 nights here. The cabins are beautiful and well appointed. The airconditioning could have been cooler and the pillows were very flat but the beds were comfortable and the scenery was gorgeous! The food at the restaurant was really good! We rented a car for 4 hours and drove around the island. It was such a unique resort, I would definitely stay here again.
We will be back
We were looking for a place to stay for the day as we had jumped off our sailing ship. We didn't inquire about a day room, instead we booked a room to have a place to relax. The service here was excellent, which says a lot because we have just left two days at the Four Seasons in Bora Bora. The beach was nice and very clear, the hotel provided snorkels and kayaks. The room was gorgeous and the grounds themselves were too. We loved this boutique style hotel and will be back to spend more time on this sleepy island. One complaint is we did get some bug bites at dusk, which is something that had not occurred at our last hotel, but all in all I give this a 5 star rating.
