Glad I came even though the weather was disappointing.
This hotel has a lot of positives, one of them being the proximity to the airport, which was only 5 minutes away by car (I would advise you to pay for your own taxi to this hotel from the airport as it would be cheaper than paying for a transfer through your holiday company). Other positives were the friendly and helpful staff (Michael was lovely) who were always very accommodating, filing up my flask with water whenever I needed. The hotel does not supply bottles of water but you can purchase them from the petrol station nearby. When we asked for a kettle for our room so we could make our own tea they happily supplied this. We only had coffee making facilities in our room. I also found the bed very comfortable. I was pleased with the amount of power points in the room. Also the WIFI signal was really good and free. Swimming in the Cathedral cave was a bonus, and I think this is the only hotel that has this. Also the lovely hot jacuzzi was a treat in the cold weather. The hotel also has great breakfast options and we were spoilt for choice. They do a delicious 3 course dinner most evenings which would cost you $55 each, not including drinks or the 18% gratuity. It would be worth your while purchasing the all inclusive option (this is the only hotel on the island that offers this) if you like your alcohol. We opted for the breakfast only option which suited us just fine as we were out during the day. There was also a lovely pub/restaurant called the Swizzle Inn that is walking distance from the hotel, which also does lovely food. We did eat there most of the time. This holiday would have been a more enjoyable experience, if the weather had not been so bad and the cockerels had not been waking us up at 3am in the morning every day (chickens on this island are feral and almost everywhere so I cannot comment if other hotels also have this issue). Most of the rooms were pretty much the same at this hotel except for the views. I paid for an ocean view superior (room 142) but did not get much of an ocean view which was disappointing. The negatives are that the rooms needs updating, especially the bathroom, the shower and hairdryer were terrible and the bath was too small to sit in. The windows/patio doors also needed cleaning, in fact most of the windows in this hotel were dirty, which spoilt the views. The walls and ceilings were very thin so you could hear everything especially if your neighbours were using their toilet or shower or TV etc. We chose to visit out of season, so the hotel was relatively empty, so we are not sure what the situation would be like when it is busier. We did find ordering food to your room to be very expensive once delivery charge and gratuity were added. It is such a shame that Bermuda is so expensive, normally for the price of this holiday I could have purchased an all inclusive 5 star hotel or a cruise elsewhere. However, it was worth the visit, especially experiencing the beaches and the caves which were so beautiful and unique and meeting the wonderful friendly people who live here.

Christmas Family Trip to celebrate the Holidays
We enjoyed Grotto Bay tremendously. The massage was amazing & the location is great. Being able to walk to Blue Hole and Crystal Cave was great. We also enjoyed swimming in Cathedral Cave. That was a great memory of our family. Our complaints are: the beds were too small and we all woke up with back pains, the pool was not heated like advertised, the hot tub was too hot, and the food service was slow. The food was good, but the service was on the slow side. None of the complaints would deter me from staying again though, hence four stars.

Great stay
Lovely stay. Very friendly staff and quiet hotel. Wonderful view. Staff helped us celebrate a family birthday and they did a great job. Food was delicious. It was short, easy bus trip to get around. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Caves, beach and wonderful service
I simply stunning location and wonderful hotel located in a small bay with many caves, including a fantastic one that you can actually swim in. The staff are all lovely and the food is amazing. I would not hesitate to recommend this for holidays and getaways. It would be hard to think of a better place with so much to do and beautiful scenery.

Overall a good experience.
We have just returned from 8 nights at the Grotto Bay resort. Our room was clean and comfortable although not what could be described as luxurious. We went for the full board option but because were out exploring most days we did not feel we benefitted from this option to its fullest extent. The food has a big American influence and for lunch there was no such thing as a light snack. If you are staying at the hotel the options for eating out are limited to one restaurant a few hundred yards away and all others require transport. Part of the all inclusive option includes a bus pass (buses are easy and efficient) which for 7 days would have cost $62 each. All the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Out of interest I kept a rough tally of what our food and drink would have cost had we been paying for it and if you don't eat and drink a vast amount I feel the half-board option would suit better. If you intend to eat out instead, apart from the transport issue, bear in mind that Bermuda is fairly expensive. We were told there is no income tax and consequently government revenue is made from purchases. Also, of course, so much has to be imported. Something for a non-American to also note is that the tipping culture is very much similar to the USA. The hotel automatically add 17½% gratuity onto a bill AND have a line for 'Additional Gratuity'! Outside the hotel when paying by credit card, it was my experience that the card machine would have pre-select buttons to add up to 20+% to the bill. To someone from the UK I find the large percentage expected as a gratuity, which seems to have become almost compulsory, unfamiliar and distasteful. Overall we had a great stay, good location, friendly staff and a lovely island.
- AdvisoryWe are delighted to advise you the new Palm Court Restaurant is open! The restaurant will offer a new menu and more seating, yet still serve up the delicious food and friendly service that we are known for, with even better views. The contemporary Island inspired design and Mediterranean-Bermudian themed menu will complement the dining experience further against the backdrop of azure ocean horizons from every angle.
