BE WARNED Labor dispute nightmare. Avoid at all costs.

My stay was from 19-26 OCT. Hilton is a multi-billion dollar global company with deep pockets. Their "compensation" for a Diamond member who has 80 nights in 2024 alone was insulting—$ 200 in food and 190K points. I sent this email to the customer service center and I am sharing it with you. Our phone did not work for the whole stay. Eight days. We had someone check it out each day for the first three days but nothing happened. I got the “tomorrah bruddah” so familiar in Hawaii. Disgusted with Hilton’s inability to fix this basic problem, I stopped asking. The strikers protested on the edges of the property from 0700 to 2200 each day. You could not enjoy the beach, the pool, the hotel, the balcony, the shops, or any outside activities without a bullhorn in your face. Your company’s inability to settle a labor dispute ruined all of the amenities that attract my business to this property, and you did not warn me of this problem. Very few restaurants were open. I had to go next door to the Hale Koa. There was no valet. No daily maid service. No trash collection. I could not call to get my bags taken care of because the PHONE WAS NOT FIXED. Even if the phone did work, the front desk was not open until 1230 each day. Upon arriving on 19 October there was a Pride Parade which blocked me from getting to the property for three hours. Driving around in Waikiki in bumper-to-bumper traffic is not a good way to start my visit with Hilton. Again, no warning about the parade which I am sure had permits filed with the city which gave you ample warning. This property had no mitigation plan but, “Sorry, sir. Good luck". My wife and I had flown from Texas essentially getting up at 0030 Hawaii time and were unable to get on the property. When we did arrive: no valet, no working phone, no relaxation, no enjoyment. My wife fell asleep with her clothes on because the phone repair team said they would come back that night. They did not. I am a Diamond Member and my room was not really an upgrade. I barely had an ocean view. I have always stayed in the Rainbow Tower with a view of Diamond Head when I come to Hawaii which is twice a year on business. I did not get an email BEFORE my stay warning me of these problems. I got the email a day before I left. Do we think $200 and 140K points are enough for a Diamond Member who has nearly 90 nights spent at a Hilton property this year alone? I have given Hilton three of the last 10 months of nights. You gave me an awful experience with no warning and the only compensation is 140K points and $200? I am sure the Executives at Hilton can find that in their couch cushions. I brought my wife on this work trip without our kids as a romantic trip. Instead of getting yelled at by our kids at home, she got yelled at by your disgruntled workforce. I will be returning to Hawaii in January and I am rethinking my decision to stay at this property. Furthermore, I looking forward to adding my disappointment (this email) to the long list of angry patrons on social media. Is this how we think we are going to treat a Diamond Member? ------------------------------------------ BE WARNED This is Hilton's largest property. If you are going to Hawaii soon, avoid it at all costs. They are failing and they do not care about you.

The spirit of Aloha still very much felt

3rd time staying at Hilton Hawaiian Village and the hotel is a big reason we keep going back to Oahu. We love the serenity compared to downtown Waikiki which is still easily walkable as is the Ala Moana Center shopping mall. We stayed in a Tapa Collection Ocean View room on the 35th for 10 nights. It’s sad what is happening with the strikes and of course totally empathise with the workers but at the same time I cannot commend the hotel management enough - not talking about Hilton board level / the decision makers here, but more the people on the ground trying to keep the hotel operational, as they are doing a tireless and thankless job with their hands tied. Honestly other than lack of room cleaning the strikes didn’t affect our stay much at all. There were always plenty of supplies available on the designated floor, trash bags were provided and quickly collected from outside the room (never saw this accumulating). We kept the room clean ourselves and the hotel offered a spruce up half way through our stay. Other than on the balcony and some of the outside areas the noise wasn’t too bad either (although clearly experiences may vary depending on the tower and floor). We spoke to a few guests around the pools and beach and all seemed happy enough. There is no Valet parking (which for us wasn’t a problem as the car park is right there), check-in staff work on a limited shift (12pm to 1am I think), and Starbucks was closed but the rest of the operation / activities / pools felt pretty normal as per our previous stays. Wishing the striking workers well and hope they return to their jobs soon. We will definitly visit again some day. Mahalo!

    Disappointing

Lovely village resort but the strike action completely spoilt our holiday. I expected much better from Hilton. We were checked in by the managers. There were no porters to help with our luggage. There is currently no room service and very limited additional services. No poolside eateries are open. Some restaurants are closed. All because of the strike action. It’s pretty much a do it yourself room service. We were given bags to collect our rubbish and put our bed linen in. Fresh towels have to be collected on a different floor. The strikers are demonstrating in the resort with loud chanting all day every day. Very distressing for my 13 year old granddaughter who came on this holiday of a lifetime with me. I was not informed about the strike before I arrived 4 days ago. I am told this strike has been going on for nearly 40 days. Guests should not have come here. We should have been offered alternative accommodation. Very disappointing. Thumbs down Hilton. Shame on you.

    Definitely not a relaxing experience

First and LAST time at this location. Employees on strike, also construction. Never was notified of either prior to checking in. Couldn’t even sit by the pool because of all the noise everyday. The two main restaurants weren’t open either.

Hilton - For the Strike: A Nightmare Experience

My partner and I recently took our very first trip to Hawaii on October 18, 2024 for their annual Pride event. I booked this hotel because it was advertised as an all-inclusive of sorts and right on the beach. I'm disabled with a mobility scooter so this aligned with the kind of hotel I can stay at and enjoy the scenery and relax. I booked my room on May 3, 2024. The nightmare that unfolded when we arrived seems almost made up. Their workers were on strike! As you turn the corner to enter the property with your taxi you are greeted by angry mobs of shouting workers. Our room had NO shampoo, body wash, or basic amenities. You could not enjoy sitting outside on the balcony because the strike employees were banging buckets and using loud mics from sun up to past sun down. You couldn't enjoy the firework show because you were heckled by the strikers the entire time. There was no one at this property that could help us personally with any of these issues. USA Today had done an article on this, I found out when I had already gotten there, and this had been going on for some time. The hotel DID NOT alert me in advance that this is something I would have to deal with. What I thought was going to be a lovely relaxing getaway turned into a nightmare. Our room would not cool down past 77 degrees and nobody seemed to care. The entire atmosphere of this hotel was frightening. When I went to try and find someone in person first thing the next morning there was absolutely no one to help anyone. A sign said someone would be at the front desk at 12:30pm. I used their text messaging service via phone and their internal app messaging service. The person behind that was not helpful, constantly promising someone would call me soon. That call never came and even now as I write this no one ever called me. I requested a refund and was told no without any explanation. I did book direct through their website with points and cash. I left the hotel after the first nights stay and booked another hotel for the remainder of my stay at my own expense. I called Hiltons customer service and was told a report would be filed and someone would call me. A week has past. No call, no refund. In fact they charged me 182,000 points + $327.50 FOR ONE NIGHTs stay and so far refuse to refund any of that. Originally those points + cash was supposed to carry me for a 5 night stay. I am a Business Amex Hilton Gold member and I will be canceling this card due to this awful experience. I am still left in shock at how badly this was handled and how horrific the stay was. Their recent marketing is ''for the stay'' - well this was absolutely a nightmare. As of October 31, 2024 I have not received a refund for my one night stay. No points have been refunded. No credit card charges have been refunded. No one from Hilton has contacted me as promised.
