Family vacation - Beware of transfer through the hotel

Good experience for the family. Pros: Large rooms, high level of cleanliness, excellent staff. Cons: The variety of food in the main restaurant is very poor (for example, only one type of meat at lunch/dinner) so it is recommended to eat at theme restaurants with advance reservation The shuttle we booked through the hotel from the airport - we had to wait an hour in the sun until he came to pick us up, the car was dirty, some of the chairs were broken, the air conditioner was leaking.

Hotel Riu BuenaVista, Playa Paraiso. Tenerife. Family holiday hotel.

The hotel has much to offer. All of our 5 bedrooms were comfortable, spacious bathrooms, but limited drawers. Excellent room cleaning. Outstanding was La Gomera Bar and the adult pool and different levels of surrounding seating. La Gomera Bar staff work so hard under constant pressure. The perfect place to watch a sunset. The Grill, outside eating areas were excellent. The Mandalay and The Italian offer a great alternative to the vast, noisy main cafeteria., where The variety of food is a little uninspiring .What was not good was management of the deafening sound system for all the stage activities, be it the Riukids (surely not good for little ears!) or main entertainment. The Friday party nights were fantastic, pleasing our 3 generations family. So much thought and effort .Outstanding was La Gomera Bar area and the adult pool and different levels of surrounding seating. La Gomera Bar staff work so hard under constant . Not good was the cleanliness of the Titanic Pool surrounding area, one could see the dirt. Riu management should consider a different system for sunbed allocation. The complaint appeared constantly in the reviews on Trip Advisor. Princess Hotels App offer sunbed reservations a day in advance, sunbeds not apparently occupied in afternoons can then be used by other guests. Overseen by pool supervisors. If you have young children this would probably be a good choice of hotel.

Nice but big and more guests than facilities

Haven't been to a Rui before. Have been to Tenerife once a long time ago. Tenerife in October/November is just lovely. Weather between 19-25 degrees, sunny, breezy. No wasps, mosquitoes, or flies. Overall, we had a lovely holiday here are some of my reflections: The hotel was absolutely massive. I've never stayed anywhere this big before. The hotel is generally clean as are the areas around the pool. Our room was very big and pleasant. Also pretty clean but the bathroom was very mouldy (probably because the extractor didn't work), and the shower door was broken. We didn't complain, we were happy overall. The views from the hotel are beautiful. If you want a sun bed, yes, you have to be up at 6.30am. The towel change closes before the pools which is slightly annoying. There are often queues at the buffet both to get in and for the specials. There is usually a special each evening but one day there wasn't. They did have some Spanish ham (didn't see the label ?serrano) being carved one night and some smoked salmon another night - both amazing. Otherwise the buffet is pork, white fish, salad, chips, some veggies (tomatoes, aubergine), bread. Very repetitive. Ditto breakfast. Awful pancakes, good eggs, porridge, cheese, ham, pastries, cereal. Coffee and tea are bad at the buffet, as is the wine. Cocktails, coffee from the bar, and cava were all nice I thought. You can buffet dine at Atlantico and Yaiza for setting variety, food is the same. The grill is just Atlantico and the food is pretty much the same as the general evening buffet (more grilled meat options but otherwise identical) but the setting is beautiful. The Italian I wasn't bothered about, the Asian restaurant was lovely. We also got food from Pepe's one day, just burgers, hot dogs, salad, and chips. Not great. Evening entertainment - this started a bit too late for us. If you want a seat (there are nowhere near enough seats) you have to get there at 7/7.30. There is sometimes music at this time. Then Kahoot at 8.15/8.30. Two of the Kahoots were good for the kids (sport and Disney), one was about the Rui hotel chain and was quite frankly pointless. Then sometimes there is another act at 9 or later. My kids didn't really have the stamina for this. It would have been nice if there were more interesting acts earlier on in the evening. There was a tiny kids disco at 5-something but this is for toddlers. The white party evening - all the seats are cleared away. When we finished dinner, nothing had really kicked off yet so your only option is to just stand around and wait. This felt a bit weird and awkward and my kids asked to go to the room. I attended some fitness classes and went to the gym. The gym is small but adequate. There were children in there kicking a fitness ball around playing football. Beyond annoying. Someone asked them to leave but they kept coming back. There is no staff member in there. The morning classes were very busy. Get there early if you want to a space or you will have to use the surrounding grass area. You cannot book. The kids club my children went to a couple of times but it really is for little children not above 6/7 years. None of the activities that were advertised actually happened - coloured sand, there wasn't any, make a sweet bag on halloween, nope no sweets, no activities. They just provided drawing materials and played toddler songs (so I'm told). Overall, it seems the hotel is not really set up to cater to the number of guests in attendance (presumably at busy times during school holidays mainly). It doesn't seem busy or too much of a crush, it just seems like the communal spaces were not planned carefully. I wouldn't return here again I don't think, not because it was bad - it wasn't. The hotel was fine. Tenerife, however, I would absolutely come back to. I would prefer to stay somewhere smaller, not AI, and go out and explore the island. I hope I am not too critical, the problem with reviews is the tendency to focus on things you didn't like but honestly as I say, it was not bad, just not my thing.

Good rooms views and good animation

I stayed here for a week in mid October and in spite of it not being half term week it was still very busy. A lot of people did reserve sun loungers but it was still possible to get a sun lounger in a good position on the way to breakfast at 8:30 to 9:00. The room was excellent, a good size, great view of the sea and large balcony. The bathroom is great, big with two wash basins plus great shower. The room was cleaned very well every day by the cleaners. The food was good with quite a good variety. You helped yourself to juice, soft drinks beer and wine from dispensers. For breakfast I always went to the Atlantico as it had the same selection as Yaiza but was calmer and had great views. I recommend the separate speciality restaurants that you need to book on the app. The food was a different selection in them and also nice and peaceful to eat. There are four good size pools and one children’s pool. The animation team are great running water volleyball, waterpolo and volleyball sessions each day plus silly games etc. I went to the shops about 10 minutes walk to the left out of the gate at the bottom a couple of times and there is a pub there called the Britannia inn which shows premier league football and international games. The staff at the hotel are great and manage the large number of people very well. You never had to wait long for a drink at the bars. There is a car park at €9 a night but only paid once as there is parking and managed to get a space when I came back from trips in the middle of the afternoon. It was a good holiday. It has plenty of people as it is a large hotel with 540 rooms so can be busy. I think next time I would choose a hotel with slightly less rooms.

    Riu Buenavista

Arrived early evening, check in was quick and staff very pleasant. Hotel is typical Riu, very nice, very clean and all staff very helpful and pleasant. Hotel is a little tired in places but overall very nice. Room was lovely with great view over adult pool area and ocean. We spent most days at the adult pool and sunbeds were not a problem but certain ones were reserved quite early. I was normally down by the pool between 8 and 8.30 and always got 2 beds next to pool. It was also nice to see that the adults only area was kept adults only and any people who came with children were asked to leave. I would say a bigger sign saying adults only might sort some of the confusion out. Also it was great to see the no smoking areas also being policed by all staff and would be nice to see this approach in other Riu hotels. There is a very small beach just around the corner but it is a pebble beach. Not for us sorry. Food was OK but not as much choice as previous Riu hotels we have stayed in. All in all a nice 2 week break and we will return sometime.
