Thank you for a wonderful birthday trip!
November 2024 was a return visit for us to celebrate my wife’s 40th birthday. We of course knew the resort location and amenities are ideal, but what made the trip truly fantastic was the level of care we experienced during our visit. I want to extend my tremendous gratitude to Micah Burr for making our trip absolutely amazing. We can’t wait to come back! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

High Tea by the Sea
Teatime is my favorite past time. Staring out at the ocean is another favorite past time. So weekend high tea on the veranda at the Moana Surfrider is just heaven sent. The Moana is steeped in history, and genteel elegance. What i appreciated the most is that i could chose from the menu more tea sandwiches over sweets. As much as i love high tea, i don't always love all the sugar. Many places don't allow for as many substitutions as i made. But the Moana staff were entirely accommodating. Highly recommended for a luxurious respite.

Overpriced and really disappointing
Location and grandeur of the facade aside, this place disappoints. The city view rooms are anything but - you look straight into the next hotel rooms and their open balconies. The renovation noise was intrusive but the late night street noise and music were way worse. There’s zero sound proofing. As a solo traveller I also never felt valued or welcome - no one greets you when you enter or leave, there’s no communication during your stay, and the staff just look like they’re going through the motions. And the resort fee is a total rip off - there’s no value in it for most people and it just inflates an already over priced hotel bill. The location is great but really they can’t keep trading on that - the hotel is tired and the rooms need work. There’s no room service and the bar food is ridiculously overpriced for what it is. The tv wasn’t reliable (internet?) and also some power points don’t work. I was looking forward to staying there but I’d never do so again - it’s surely not the hotel it could be and clearly once was.

Not worth the cost of the stay
We have stayed at this formally Starwood property over the last 20+ years and previously always enjoyed the stay. This time it was a complete reversal. When this hotel became part of the Marriott collection the decay is visible and now it is all about the money. When you add their policy of “skimpflation” everything is based on nickel and dime-ing their customers. Because of problems with a collapsed balcony all the balconies are being retrofitted and the noise is endless until 3-4pm. (We were warned in advance of our stay but underestimated the level). So our oceanfront suite balcony was locked until the work is finished. But the real problem is because our suite faced the ocean we were bombarded with the hotel bar band or singers performing at our hotel and the wretched low brow outrigger hotel bands playing endless twanging music on the other side. So two different and very loud music bombarding our room day and night until 9-10pm. We both bought ear plugs to drown it out when we slept. Marriott Hawaii has cheapened its titanium benefits so that now breakfast is not included except for a pre made continental breakfast plate! I mean really? They are so worried their top FF customers might sneak food from the hot section of the breakfast buffet so you can only have a plate that they prepare for u. Tacky. A sign of things to come as their CEO announced he was going to help save their hotel brands on food costs. So anyone who travels a lot knows that means it will be at the customer’s expense. Waikiki has really lost any visit appeal and is really now geared to the SouthWest airline crowd. (More like greyhound bus crowd). We checked out after a few days and moved over to the big island to finish our holiday. We won’t go back and I would no longer recommend their properties in Hawaii, especially at the highway robbery prices they are charging. If the hotel is charging me $48 a day for non existent resort benefits then they could at least give their top tier repeat customers a free breakfast.

This is a beautiful resort, the history is amazing, its a great value for the location, everything on Waikiki beach is about the same as far as restaurants, I can't say anything bad about the Moana, great stay, the beach is beautiful the pool conformable, the staff is the best, I would definitely stay here again
