My vacation
Everything was fine, food and service. It good for what you pay for. The service was really good, but the only think that really was not right, was to be served a drink in a dirty glass at the lobby bar. Otherwise I did have a really good time, I was there for a reunion with my sister, overall we enjoy it!

Bellow par to say the least.
Let me start by saying that the people working at the hotel are very friendly and courteous and that was a plus. Now to the hotel itself, The people who make the final decision for this hotel don’t care at all about the appearance, or the experience the guess will have at this property. The food was way below par, the room was extremely outdated, furniture was outdated, chip, lamps on the wall were not screw to the wall properly and kept filling off the wall. The sheet were supposed to be white but they were so so so dingy and with small little tears which shows years of used and wash. Each day they clean the room the sheet all had such a musty and disgusting smell. The bathroom door was rusty and dirty, the shower tiles were there. I had an ocean view room and the first night I was there it rain and there was a pulse of water that seep into the room due to crappy drainage. It rain very hard two days later and my room as well as other rooms at the hotel flooded due to poor drainage. I had to go downstairs and have a worker come up with towels and a bucket to get the water out the room. I been going to Cancun since 2005 and this have been without a shadow of a doubt the worse hotel I have ever stayed in. I will never go back to this hotel. The best part of this hotel was the workers. Again I say the food was crappy. Your property is in a serious need of an upgrade. Please please do better.

Below standard for Barcelo....
Let me start by saying I have traveled the world and stayed in high end and budget friendly properties. I have seen extreme variances but this property warranted a full review. I have also stayed in Barcelo's in Madrid and Barcelona and the standard was always high, food was excellent and service great. This property is old and in desperate need of a renovation. The outside of the property showed obvious signs of stucco falling off and bare patched on the walls. I rented a villa on the beach at this property and paid premium level. The furniture in the room while they claim was remodeled was stained on the material for chairs at the table and the sofa looked like its last day had come and gone. The pillows had a body odor to them and required a cleaning. I was told it was remodeled several years ago. My 2nd story villa flooded after a morning of rain. No indication of where it came from. The ceiling and walls were dry, seems like it came through the floor. It took 3 hours after I reported it at 7:15 before the maid showed up to clear the water. The maid stated this was a common problem in the villas but no repairs had been made for some time. The next door villa also flooded. My room was changed but that villa also had mild flooding in the kitchen the next day after rain and the water came through the front door. This is three villas with flood issues on the top level! I used my towels to clean it up and left them outside of the villa for pick up, I figured why call the concierge again when it took 3 hours the day before for the first clean up. I was done at this point! The daily food buffet is sub-par. I read many reviews about the food low quality but figured how bad could it be? I was a chef for several years at the international level in greece and never witnessed anything like this. The hot food was never hot and this can cause food borne illnesses. The bar next to the lobby had food options and I witnessed guests eating from the serving pans as if they had not eaten for days, what the hell is this? I had to pardon myself to get to the food. I decided I would not touch that food. The hot lamps did not operate hot enough to keep the hot food hot and the sanitation issues just turned me off. The daily buffet had very limited selections and mostly designed to cater to the hispanic population that filled the hotel while I was there. I love Mexican food but even this did not meet that standard! No real international options. The desserts had very little taste and were cookie cutter, no real creativity or presentation. The seafood restaurant offers only a limited menu, no real seafood offerings like one expects at a resort, I excused myself to the server and ate at a local restaurant that night. I was also suppose to receive a welcome gift at premium level either upon checkin or within two days. On the fourth day I was left a sparkling wine split on the kitchen counter like it was an after thought, no welcome note, no hors d'oevres as in Europe properties. The staff was very friendly and professional and always welcoming. Unfortunate the standards at this location are below Barcelo standards. I would not recommend wasting your money on the property or premium level here. The value was simply not present.

Not a win at TUCANCUN.
Only 2 good things. The spa was great and the beach was very good. Food was horrible. Buffets and resort restaurants were equally poor. No flavor, no variey. Desserts are from a box and taste horrible. Took 4 ever to check in at the occidental office. They ignored us while others came in with complaints. They offered us food that was in dirty dishes and had sat out all day. We verified daily that the food sat out in there and the snack bar all day long with no refridgeration or heat sorce. Food was COLD on every buffet. They said they'd bring our luggage and forgot about us. 2 very small elevators with 1 broken so we took the stairs to the 5th floor in the heat many times. Very few hotel staff spoke English and other than the maids there was not much effort put into being friendly or helpful. We figured out quickly that noone cared if we had a complaint. Honestly we were glad when our 7 nights were up and we could leave. We would not recommmed but if you do go here is a helpful hint. Across the street from the hotel there is a mall and there is a grocery store that has everything you might need - real icecream, yogurts, chips, candy, baked goods with flavor, prices are about the same as the US. Go in through the back side parking lot and take the stairs up to the mall. grocery is on the second floor. We wish we would have went there sooner but you think with all inclusive that you shouldn't have to stock your own food. We will return to Mexico but never to this resort.
