I don't know why we joined the UVC club. The room was constantly dirty. Fridge was never filled. We ran out of TP, no tissues. We were told we were eligible for an upgrade when we got there. This was not true. The beds were uncomfortable, and the box springs had holes in them. I kept having to go the lobby to get water where they told me they usually don't do that here you call "0". I stated I've done that 3 times and no one showed up. The iron didn't work, the hair dryer didn't work, and there was no plug for the coffee pot. The beach was beautiful, the ocean wonderful, staff friendly, but the accommodations were sub par.
Beware! Food is awful!
Our bad experience started out at the airport when we were perusing the rental car companies. A lady named Leticia waved us over and said we could get a car w full coverage for $95/week. I’ve rented cars before in Aruba, Grand Cayman, Ireland, so this price seemed comparable. She then added entry to Mayan ruins and an eco-park. We got the car and were on our way. We arrived at Sunscape and then learned a timeshare presentation was required for this car! What?! NO MENTION from Leticia of this requirement! (She needs to be fired! Yes, she works for this chain of resorts.) We finally relented and agreed to do it the next morning since we were told the car would not be $95 if we didn’t take their tour. In the meantime before we got our room, my husband and I both raised HELL about it. Since we were deceived by Leticia, Ernesto (presentation booking guy) asked if we would want to be upgraded to the sister resort next door, Secrets, which is def more the quality I’m accustomed to. Of course being a Saturday, there was no availability so he said Monday there would be. In the meantime, I’ve spoken to my timeshare exchange company (RCI) every day about this move. It’s now Tuesday and we are still at this subpar resort. We were upgraded on Saturday to a junior suite instead of the hotel unit we booked, but that doesn’t help w the quality of the food. We met several other people who felt the same and had planned to move to Secrets. No room service or beach drink service at Sunscape as compared to other all-inclusives. For EXCELLENT food at a QUALITY resort, book El Cid Marina in Mazatlán instead FOR THE SAME PRICE. We sat down for lunch there upon arrival to filet mignon! Food was amazing all week. The dinners here have yet to be edible except for pasta one night. A hamburger at lunch has been the best meal yet, which is sad. Surf and turf was fatty nasty beef w peppers and onions with ONE shrimp. A neighboring table had several skewers of grilled shrimp and when I inquired about ordering that, I was told no, I wasn’t allowed to! Since we’ve experienced a Sunscape property, we’ll definitely not ever book their property in Curaçao which I’ve been tempted to do several times. Once and done!
Such a fun place. Beautiful. Not recommended for food.
We had a great trip. The rooms all vary a lot in quality, I would recommend asking for a new one because they do have some nice rooms. The food is not good quality (especially the Italian place) and the alcoholic beverages are really sugary (I recommend asking for sugar-free). At sunny side they get orders wrong A LOT so be really clear, also it can take a while so don’t go here if you don’t have a lot of time. That being said everyone who works here is super friendly and helpful, big shout-out to Arbey who runs all the activities he’s a saint and such a hard worker. I would stay here again because it’s a really fun time. People who stay here tend to be really social and there’s always something to do. If you’re looking for better rooms I would recommend the neighboring hotel Secrets, but if you don’t spend a lot of time in the hotel room I would recommend Sunscape Sabor. The beach is great, the pools are great, the scuba diving is beautiful.
Resort From Hell
First let me say we have been to Cancun area and stayed at resorts, Dominican Republic and Jamaca. This by far turned out to be a resort from hell from the day we checked in to the day we left. The day upon check in we did not get the room we booked for. We paid for a Ocean Front delux but got Ocean view. We ended paying extra $400 to upgrade our room to a honey moon suite on the Ocean, about the only thing that was nice at this miserable resort. The staff in the lobby was rude and not helpful. The waiters where great and took care of us. For food choices, they had 4 Restraunts and 2 only open at a time. No snack bar to get snacks. We went to one restraunt at 8pm and we waited for over hour before the hostess came out and said they are now closed and we must wait until 11pm to eat at the midnight food. We had to pay for a Taxi and go down town and eat dinner. Breakfast buffet was the only food edible at this place. The water which the resort has nothing to do with was amazing. So stay away, go to Secrets or another place.
I recieved the most amazing service from Randy Miranda and Javier Untura Balm while here on vacation. I absolutely am grateful to them for making our vacation that much more enjoyable and amazing. We will definitely be going back and i hope they are there when we do!
