My husband and I stayed at Secrets Maroma beach, for a week of relaxation. We had visited another Secrets resort in Jamaica and enjoyed it. Maroma exceeded our expectations! Beautiful, friendly, clean, and quiet. The food was great too. While walking around the facility, We never passed a staff member that didn’t greet us. We even got to watch sea turtles leave their nest and run to the sea!
Shout Out to the Staff at Maroma Beach
If the Big Honchos at Maroma Beach are reading this ALL your staff deserves a big fat raise just for being AWSOMEEE! In no particular order the people that stood out to me... Raul Sanchez Urbina (Concierge): I would not stay at this hotel again unless he was my Concierge!!! one of the coolest and most helpful people I have ever met in my lifeeeee! His English is absolutely perfect which allowed us to have many conversations about all kinds of things like his adventures skydiving and the best Mexican food I needed to try (Chicken Mole btw). If you see him tell him Mackenzie says she will keep on you about scuba diving lol. This man is going to great places. Luis Palacios (Bordeax french restaurant): he is just as sweet as he is a good waiter. He made sure you felt right at home. His sense of humor made me laugh out loud and his helpfulness taught me how to eat escargot for the first time which I never would have figured out unless he showed me. Tip this man good!!! Pablo Machueho (I think this is the correct spelling) (Bordeax french restaurant): And the award for the most handsome waiter with the best laugh in Mexico goes too...... you guessed it, Pablo!!! He served me the best meal I have ever had in my life and his laugh and vibrant personality spoke for itself. I only wish I had more time to talk to him during my dinner. I got to see sea turtles hatching on the beach and I think it was only fit to name one Pablo. French Chef Mayetzi Mlllandzo (Not sure if that's spelled correctly): YOU GO, GIRL! keep making that BOMB food. felt so honored to meet you and if I ever become half a good as a cook as you, I will be happy. Charlie Hopes (Activities): so happy I met this person! one of the best characters by far. He was one of the guides for the kayak tour and showed me amazing coral and had such good information. When I told him I was having trouble finding a company through the hotel to take me to the underwater museum he told me all about his experience and got to the bottom of it within the day.. he also saved my burger from a family of Coatis lol. Tana Sanchesz (World buffet): If a trophy exists for the best personality in Mexico I nonmate this lovely senorita. I only met her briefly but her personality shined and put me in a better mood after talking to her then when walked in. She even remembered my name the next time I walked in. Freddy Blanco (World buffet): What a handsome senor this one was!!!!! ladies watch out lol great personality and even better service, super helpful. I hope I get the pleasure of having him as my waiter again soon. Humberto Gonzalez (World buffet): very sweet kid and has big dreams that one day I hope he follows. Great waiter and a hard worker. Antonio Sanchez (Asian restaurant): what a big teddy bear lol having him as my waiter was 100% one of the best experiences of the trip. I was in awe of how he was completely unaffected by the jerk that sat at our table at the hibachi dinner. His outgoing personality along with his jokes that are funny enough to make you belly laugh saved the night from the jackhole at dinner. When he said he loved his job I truly think he meant it. also, like to give a shout out to all the men on the pink Cancun passion tours for Chichen Itza I felt like I was watching a live comedy show and the information and friendliness shown was one of my favorite parts of the trip. The saddest part wasn't leaving the beautiful beaches or great food it was saying goodbye to the wonderful personalities I met along the way.
We had such a great time and the service awesome 😎. The pools are great and all of the employees do what ever they can to allow you have a great day. Highly recomiendes for vacations. The food is also great. You eat and drink all you want with great quality. We will happily go back soon.
Amazing staff at Maroma: Luis aka Luigi from the Pizza stand
I hope I have the correct spelling of this employees name, and I'm not sure of his last name but he was so dope!! We had a great conversation and he was the only person that gave me a mini Spanish lesson, while my pizza cooked. Super friendly, great smile, great cook.
Mediocre at best...unsafe at worst.
This is by far the biggest disappointment of any of the Unlimited Vacation Club properties. After experiencing Dreams La Romana, Secrets Playa Mujeres and Dreams Playa Mujeres, Secrets Maroma Beach left us with enough doubts that we’ll likely not visit one of their properties again. Here’s why: Beaches...nothing at all like any of the online pics. Photoshopped like I’ve never seen. Service...restaurants are average at best. Bars and bartenders (with the exception of one, Alfredo) were the worst ever we’ve experienced at a UVC property. Even with very generous front-end gratuity, they were awful in both drink quality and friendliness. Rooms...Meh. Activities...Meh. The final reason this review is being written is guest safety. At the pool volleyball game a guest who was clearly inebriated caused real problems with several guests. The management on duty not only didn’t attend to the issue, their bars continued to serve the guest who remained belligerent. When queried again, they offered less-than-lukewarm responses. Our family felt unsafe enough that we’re leaving early vs. putting up with a maniacal MMA - type individual walking around the property threatening other guests with his fighting skills (which he did). We’ve come to expect more from UVC and I guess with their rapid growth, taking care of members is second to revenue and EBITDA.
