    Amazing Vacation!

We stayed at Dreams Las Mareas for a week in late July of 2019. Our stay was OUTSTANDING. We had an amazing time and the hotel/resort was wonderful. We are a family of 3 (two adults and a 4-year-old). Here are some of the things we liked the most, followed by a couple areas for improvement. We Loved: 1. The Beach: The beach is beautiful (see our photos) and was possibly our favorite part. This is a natural beach – it has native trees, driftwood, rocks…and that is why we liked it so much. My favorite thing to do was to lay in the hammock grove, under the trees, watch the monkeys and listen to the ocean. Amazing. We found trees to sit under and build sand castles and cool things to explore. If you are looking for groomed sand and planted palm trees like some places in the Caribbean, this beach may not be for you. We’ve been to those kinds of places and they are nice too – but the beach at Dreams is special. There are great places to walk, including out the points on either side of the cove (just bring shoes good for climbing over rocks). The ocean is a wonderful blue-green color and the backdrop of the green mountainsides of the cove is beautiful. 2. The staff: We had excellent service throughout our stay. The Kids Club staff are exemplary, especially Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Katherine. We also had great service on the beach - I am blanking on his name but he was always there with drinks and a smile. Deymer was also great and always took time to chat. 3. The pools: Lots of really nice pool options, plenty of chairs, and places to find a nice spot. It is cool how the pools are built into the hillside; there is a chain of three pools that meander down toward the beach and all have at least one infinity edge. Our 4-year-old and 45-year-old (yours truly) loved the waterslide. 4. The wildlife: We saw monkeys every day. There are a couple groups of them that often come out in the morning by the beach. We saw capuchin monkeys most days (they hang out by the hammock grove sometimes), spider monkeys down the beach a bit, and howlers on a nature hike. We also saw an anteater, iguanas, and plenty of colorful birds. The only problem is that guests try to feed the monkeys sometimes and staff don’t intervene, which can ruin the experience a bit (more on that later). Otherwise the wildlife is amazing and the monkeys are truly a unique experience. 5. Room: We did the Preferred Club with a swim-out tropical view room. It was perfect. Rooms are not large but big enough, and having the outside patio with the swim-out was nice. We highly recommend this if you have kids and feel OK about having them around water. The open bathroom that some people complain about was not a problem for us. It helped make the room feel more open. The toilet and shower have doors so privacy wasn't really an issue. 6. The food: We were pleasantly surprised by the food. Seaside Grill (steak) was our favorite; we had dinner there twice and ate lunch here most days. We also really liked the Asian and Italian restaurants. The buffet is good for breakfast. Areas for Improvement: 1. Staff should NOT let guests feed the animals. The hotel does a decent job of posting signs discouraging people from feeding the wildlife, however the staff does not enforce the rule. As I mentioned above, one of our favorite things to do was to lay by the beach under the trees and watch the monkeys, but one time this was spoiled by at least 20 guests coming down to try to feed them and take selfies. The staff doesn’t discourage it, in fact someone said they told them it was “OK”. This is a shame. I suspect the hotel is worried about negative reviews if they say no, but feeding them is bad for the monkeys and problems will arise if you continue to let guests do this. Please people, just watch and enjoy. 2. Check in process: All aspects of our stay were very smooth except for check in at the Preferred Club which took a long time. More check-in staff are needed. Also we were put in a room type that we did not reserve; however they were able to fix it. In short, the positives FAR outweighed any concerns, and we absolutely loved our vacation at Dreams Las Mareas. We will be back! It feels natural; the hotel is integrated well with the landscape and wildlife, the beach is amazing, the grounds are beautiful, food and staff are great…I can go on and on. The weather was great and everything was green and lush. Our only regret was not stopping at a couple of the little ramshackle bars along the road to/from the resort. They look so cool. Oh well – next time!

    Awesome resort

The staff was wonderful & very helpful. The room was spacious & very comfortable. The patio spa tub was an excellent addition. The restaurants were very good except for the beach seafood restaurant. The service was bad along with the food.

    Wonderful ambience and food

Great service, food and ambience. No crazy rush to find pool loungers. Adequate pool staff who were constantly cleaning and tidying up and offering drinks. There was a nice adult pool as well as a swim up bar at one if the pools. Fresh, chilled coconut water was available pool-side and beach-side. There wasn’t a great beach stance, but there was some and it wasn’t over-crowded. Beautiful birds and butterflies here and there. Iguanas were out and about and saw several monkeys on the trees by the waterfront. The food at the Japanese and Italian restaurants was amazing. Overall great experience if you do t mind an hour and a half drive from Liberia airport.

    perfect trip!

not only is Costa Rica a beautiful country, Dreams Las Mareas is a gorgeous resort and was worth every penny! The landscapes, views, and grounds are breathtaking. The property is very remote, which we knew going in, and selected because we figured it would be less crowded as a result. It was just that! The staff were so friendly and eager to please. I have been to several all inclusive resorts and never have I experienced so much poolside service! It almost seemed as if there was an employee to every guest. Restaurants were DELISH, room service was excellent both in service and taste, the buffet breakfast was amazing but lunch in the buffet was not so great. We did not go to the buffet for dinner. Night entertainment was kind of bland, but we did see an awesome fire show on 8/2/19. We stayed in a swim out room and although we LOVED all 4 main pools, we also loved the privacy of our own little swim area. Thank you, Dreams, for giving me and my boyfriend a trip to remember! oh, and shout out to Amstar for their excellent transport services.
