Great location for diving, Dive House is a top notch great operation, on site
This property is very nice, well kept and close to the best dive spots. Dive House is on site and is a great operation, we have dove with them before and we are always very pleased. As for the room, we had the beachfront honeymoon suite with a jacuzzi. The room is very nice, with a very large balcony. My husband and I are both tall, we have more leg than there was bed, but if you are under 5'7" the bed should be just fine for you. The resturaunts are a pleasant surprise for all inclusive, the food is quite good, but there wasn't a lot of selection. I was told during the high season there are more options. The beach is nice, the pools are clean and nice. The spa... DO THE HIDROTHERAPY and a massage OMG..it's amazing, out of body experience The bad: We had a lot of noise from our neighbors room. They were very loud, about EVERYTHING, and came in from their evenings out at 4-5 am, slamming doors and speaking loudly. The sales pitch for the unlimited vacation club. For the love of all holy, DO NOT fall for the "come to the front desk and get your welcome gift" letter they put in your room. You will be sucked into a black hole of despair so deep you will fear never seeing daylight again. We got suckered into the "90 minute" talk, which was actually about 3 hours. We were emphatic that we weren't buying ANYTHING at which point they called off the attack, and promised to release us, after taking a short survey. Guess what the survey was? ANOTHER SALES PITCH. Save yourself the agony and just say no.
Started off poorly but by the end extremely happy
This is my third time staying with the AM Resorts family and have a pretty good understanding of the brand and what to expect. LOCATION As for location and having driven around the island, this resort is one of the better situated of all resorts. You are close enough to the airport that you don't spend much time but far enough from the cruise ships that you actually just see the ocean. Also, if you've traveled to the Mayan Riviera/Playa Del Car you will undoubtedly have witnessed the mass amounts of seaweed, that is not the case her at all (there is none). FOOD/DINNING Again if you are familiar with AM Resorts brand, you know they rid themselves of reservations for the a la carte restaurants. Compared to other resorts in Mayan and Cancun and other Sunscape resorts I personally felt the food was below standard but definitely not as bad as some reviews felt. The portions are somewhat on the smaller side but most allowed to order two appetizers. Among my favorites was the Ceviche which was identical to the same Civiche I had at Sunscape Curacao. The green salad at the Italian restaurant was also excellent. The only disappointment was the buffet, felt it to be limited and quality wasn't there. STAFF/ACTIVITIES/SHOWS As for the staff, I felt this was one of the highlights. We had a few issues with our room due to the adjacent room however I have to say that Hector at the front desk was very professional and sympathetic to our problem(s) and did everything within his power to ensure we were happy. If you are coming here in the off season, important to know that the Sunscape brand will often give offers to locals, we experienced this with the other Sunscapes as well. Most times the resort fills on the weekends however this one was at capacity the whole week of our stay. ROOM Rooms weren't great and I would say if you are going to spend a week here, look at either paying for an upgrade OR sit through their presentation which truthfully lasts 2-3 hours and use the money they give for the upgrade. BEACH/POOL/AMENITIES Well this is where this resorts will have me coming back. The beach is clean and free of seaweed. Although it's a bit rocky as you enter the water, there are places that are free of them you just need to find them. The snorkeling is excellent, spots to check out will be the man made shark coming out of the water and if you continue a little further out and to the right of it you will come across a concrete pillar where many fish are using for protection. Lots of fish varieties, starfish and stingrays. The pools were very clean and well maintained, every morning you would see them cleaning and treating the pools. MY OWN RATINGS Beach 4.5 / 5 Staff 4.5 / 5 Room 3 / 5 Activities 2.5 / 5 Food 3 / 5
Everything great except the food
I read reviews before I booked but normally don't pay attention to the food reviews. Everyone in our group had stomach issues and the food was horrible. Room was great, air conditioner worked well, service was impeccable. The beach was awesome, but bring swim socks. Snorkel at the resort and see stingrays, starfish, angel fish and manarays.
the worst part is the customer service. Half the employees are very rude and unhelpful. The rooms look so dirty and so do the towels and shower. The food is the worst. The breakfast was not covered and there was flies everywhere also very little variety. I will NEVER recommend this filthy resort.
Exceptional and affordable!
I just love this resort. This was our 2nd visit in 2 years. We are always so welcomed by the staff, and many service vendors (Fiesta Car Rental, various tour teams, etc) are easily accessible in the lobby. Makes it convenient to book excursions if you haven't done so already. The restaurants are great, and can get crowded, so plan for your meals ahead if you can. Kids are definitely a big part of the resort now, and make sure you know about their activities. The Kids' crew definitely tries to keep them busy, but you will know they are there. You will certainly make great friends with the staff, and they are all so charasmatic that you will feel like you are amongst family.
