    Absolute Paradise

My two daughters and I spent five nights at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. I booked a 1 king golf vista room but applied nightly upgrade awards and was upgraded to a 1 king oceanfront deluxe with a walk in closet. The room was so awesome and the view was amazing. We loved using our screen door and listening to the ocean. The hotel and the grounds were incredible. Just beautiful and peaceful. I felt like I was living in a postcard. The beach was also amazing. There were plenty of chairs and umbrellas. Things like boogie boards, paddle boards, and snorkel gear were included. The water was crystal clear and there is even a small coral reef with some good snorkeling. At night, we could see Manta Rays from a viewing platform. The hotel also offered some cultural activities everyday. We only participated in one, but it was a good experience where we learned how to make a palm leaf lei. The service was the best I have ever had experienced at a hotel. We stayed during the renovation, and, as a platinum member, our breakfasts were upgraded to the full buffet because of the renovation. The renovation did not bother us at all. And our room was almost right next to it. We ate at Copper Bar twice and had room service twice. The food was good, although we wished the resort had more options. I’m assuming this is because of the renovations and some of the restaurants being closed. The prices were typical high resort prices. We did not have dinner at Manta. We also went to the luau. It was our first one, so we have nothing to compare it to, but we very much enjoyed being able to try different types of food, and the performances were great. Overall, this resort is a dream. We definitely want to come back!

    POOL CLOSED UNTIL SEPTEMBER

What a complete joke! THE POOL IS CLOSED UNTIL SEPTEMBER AND MASSIVE RENOVATIONS GOING ON, but they bury that information on the Marriott website deep down versus upfront. Then, once you make a reservation a day later you get a letter saying “oh by the way, the pool is closed“. why doesn’t the hotel just man up and state that information upfront and center and let people decide whether they not want to book it. My guess, receiving cancellation fees and increasing occupancy under false pretense.

    Love you BUT very disappointed!!!

My husband has been visiting this hotel for over 30 years, and we’ve been coming annually since 2012. We absolutely adore this property, the location, and everyone who works at the resort. We skipped 2024 due to the construction and renovation of the main tower rooms. We just arrived on 5/15/2025 and plan to stay through 5/25/2025. We were excited to see the room renovations—we usually stay in a premium ocean view room. The new interior updates are very nice except for one major issue: the bathroom. The shower’s mosaic floor tile, white tile back wall and the horribly old drain cover remain unchanged, and unfortunately, they’re still filled with mildew and grime. I don’t know about you, but when I feel the need to wear flip-flops in an upscale hotel shower, that’s a serious red flag! Why, oh why, was the shower not upgraded? This is such an important space. I work in high-end real estate, and it’s common sense that a primary space like the bathroom must be immaculate—especially after a major renovation. Additionally, the walk-in closet flooring has stains all over it. Why isn’t maintenance handling these issues. PLEASE- PLEASE MAUNA KEA - WE LOVE YOU BUT YOU MEED TO STEP UP THE LEVEL OF QUALITY. It the least you can do for those patrons who love to visit.

Pacific Dreams Photography at the Westin Mauna Kea residences

This review is specifically for our experience with pacific dream photography. My family and I did a family photo shoot and a Luau photo shoot with the pacific dream photography team member April, and I wanted to give her a big hug, she was amazing!! April was so incredibly patient and kind throughout the inevitable child shenanigans and stressors during the shoots. Would absolutely book a session with her again. Thank you. April!
