A Spectacular Property
One of the nicest and best run hotels I have ever seen. We stayed there for our 55th anniversary, and we were blown away with the property and especially the service. Some of the employees have been there since the hotel opened and they are absolute pros. You won't do better than this one!
Loved our stay at the Mauna Kea...the property is such a gem. Love the original architecture and the updates are just enough to not take away from the original charm. The beach is stunning. Would highly recommend checking it out...great for families too. Can't wait to return with my kiddos.
This amazing spot has a fantastic hotel with beautiful rooms and layout. It has a extraordinary beach in a cove and the views are spectacular. Golf etc. We went to the Easter Brunch and a Hawaiian luau in the out side special dining area as well. Fun lunch by the beach. Great restaurant choices. Lobby lovely. Privces not for the faint of heart but they measured up for us.
Amazing Property and Beach.
The Mauna Kea is an amazing hotel. Classically Hawaiian designed hotel. The hotel is centered around an impressive open air lobby that overlooks the beautiful beach. We were given a deluxe room which was really spacious and very comfortable. The beach is great, very calm in the morning and still easily swim-able in the afternoon. Decent snorkeling around the reefs and rocks on either side of the beach. The only reason I gave the Mauna Kea 4/5 is the service was just slightly off. It wasn't a big deal, and at a lower priced hotel I would have just given a 5/5. However, at a hotel at this price point service should really be on point. The food at the breakfast buffet was good and the views were awesome, but the service was hit or miss. My wife asked twice for orange juice one morning and never received it. We had dinner at the Copper Bar one night and the service was friendly, but very slow. The server said it was her first day, which is completely understandably, but at a hotel of this level I would've expected a new server to have a trainer helping out to ensure the right level of service. Only other recommendation is that many activities start early in the morning and during our early morning start there was no valet staff working and the front desk staff had to get the car. Still a beautiful hotel and we wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
Third trip to Hawaii. The Mauna Kea is a beautiful, sophisticated resort. The structure itself is a bit dated. However, everything else is beautiful and new and elegant. The beach is not very crowded and has lots of services. No issues getting chairs, etc. Lovely welcome with leis. Took the shuttle to the Westin one night for dinner which was convenient. Also ate at Manta and the luau - both were great. View of the golf course/mountains was fine. Amazing bathroom. Seeing the mantas swim at night was also very cool!
