We were in Cancun?
Half of the restaurants were closed. The children's slides were closed during our entire stay. The beach and shoreline are filled with seaweed. The drinks are inconsistent and the food choices are not that great. If you are prone to mosquito bites, bring lots of spray or you will be eaten alive. The resort is so isolated. There is no where else to go or anything to do unless you rent ground transportation to get there. Our Preferred Club room accommodations were wonderful.

Wouldn’t Stay Here If I Were Paid To
When first stepping outside of your transportation, the report seems quite impressive. The welcoming staff is friendly. The bag handlers are eager to rip your bags from your hands or out of the transportation and wheel them away, so that you can tip them later, even if you insist on wanting to handle your own bags. Check-in was pleasant enough, greeted with a glass of cheap and foul tasting champagne. Given every sales pitch possible to try and upsell to a higher class room for ridiculous amounts of money, but they will come back with a lower rate quite quickly. Once signing the paperwork for your stay, you are handed off to another employee who wants to offer you a “special” breakfast only for you….time share pitch, stern no and a blank face and he will disappear pretty quickly. Off to change for the pool in their lobby bathroom as the room isn’t ready yet, but that was expected. The lobby bathroom is quite underwhelming. Suits on, off to the swim up bar. The property is pretty, but small. You can walk it all, and get the lay within 5 minutes. On the way to the pool bar, the smell hits you….the black, sludge, sewage like water sloshing up on the beach. The ocean looked and smelled like a sewage spill. Now, I don’t think this part of the resorts problem, but it certainly was major flaw during our stay. Nothing like a Mexican beach vacation at a resort on a beach that you can’t use. Now, at the swim up bar, the drinks taste, off….at best. During out 4 night stay here, we tried every drink we could think of. Not a single drink was pleasurable to drink. By the end of the 2nd night we were done drinking. There was no buzz to be had by any of the alcohol, but it wouldn’t definitely make you feel terrible. The food was impressively terrible. We were served “filet” as our choice for the meal at the wedding we attending, I don’t think a single person that ordered the filet actually ate more than 2 bites. I almost gaged trying to swallow the first bite. Not sure what it was a filet of, but it was not beef. This was the experience we had at every restaurant we dined at. Himatsu, World Cafe, room service, and the Italian place. It was a truly a perplexing conundrum to be in. To have so much food readily available, and yet to be starving, because the food wasn’t edible. The swim out suite was actually the best part of our stay, although the swim out pool was unusable as it was butted up right next to the mangroves, which contributed to the stench that surrounded the entire resort. The room itself though was large, comfortable, and clean. The AC worked well the first night. The second night during the welcome cocktail reception for the wedding guests, the power went out for approximately 20 mins, and for whatever reason that messed up the AC in the room. It was reported on day 3 and fixed, but then by the time we went to sleep for our final night the room was uncomfortable hot again. We had to be up early and suffered through it. Back to the power outage, outside of the resorts control as the entire peninsula lost power. There was no communication by hotel staff though and we were all left quite concerned as to what was happening. The wedding ceremony was held right in front of the family pool, so during the vows all you can hear is water sloshing and children behind you awkwardly watching an intimate moment they aren’t meant to be a part of. It was very awkward as a guest, I can’t imagine what the bride and groom thought. The wedding meal, as I mentioned earlier was quite awful. The resort did do a nice job though of staging the wedding reception on a rooftop area though and the guests did have a good time. Checkout was simple, and quite honestly the best part of our stay knowing that we were departing the resort.

Arnoldo
Phenomenal meal at Bordeaux. Arnoldo was an incredible server. Very attentive and very knowledgeable. Helped make sure our night was very special.
-
One of the best resorts that you can find in Cancun.
My family had a great time here at Dreams Resorts and Spas and we will definitely be back. Its rare for a resort to give you an authentic feel of the Country and here at Dreams, they attempt to do this as they make a lot of the food from scratch in front of you. Watching the ladies roll and flatten the masa for the fresh quesadillas alone makes the resort worth it and the Hydrotherapy circuit experience at the spa is paradise.
