Nice but needs more
Overall we enjoyed our holiday, but this was due to being upgraded at time of arrival. Our holiday would of been completely different if not. As a couple we enjoyed the adult only pool at Ambar, being upgraded we were able to use any hotel in the complex but only some of the restaurants in the evening. The food overall is average. The special restaurants didn't have the menus right with the type of style of food and all had a barcode to scan for a menu, we hated this we would like a paper menu. The buffet restaurants we awful apart from in Ambar, the beach restaurant at Ambar and the breakfast one at Esmeralda, which was more modern and less busy, shame this only opened for breakfast. The other buffet restaurants were busy, didn't look clean and looked very basic, food was average but everything was cold. Our room on the punta cana side was new, big and fresh, but we had this room as upgraded for free at reception, not sure why, they were having a lot of rooms being done up, but this didn't effect us as we heard no noise. The staff on a whole were lovely, my only complaint is the man at the Ambar pool bar, EDWIN, we found him very rude, ignored us a lot and wasn't friendly, we even got out the pool to get a drink and got back in the pool, this was quicker and they were more friendly. The beach, we used the Amber beach side, once again no children, beautiful beach, well maintained but sunbeds were taken with items left and this was every morning at 8am, all week we never got a sunbed directly looking tge sea, this should not happen as unfair. The entertainment in the day was good, entertainment on the evening was ok for us only because we missed stuff as not advertised or unable to view all the entertainment as a whole for the whole complex. To sum up our holiday is was nice but as a couple definitely book the Ambar hotel not the others.

Worth experience ever
I'm writing this review to prevent others from experiencing what we did at this resort, which does not meet the standards of a true luxury destination. Despite claims of being a five-star, family-friendly resort, our experience was far from satisfactory. We chose this resort, paying a premium for what was advertised as a clean and luxurious environment, particularly important for our family since we have a baby. Upon arrival, we were met with 32-degree heat and no air conditioning in the reception area. I had to enter a closed restaurant just to keep my baby cool, but staff insisted I wait in the lobby without air conditioning, despite my explanations. After multiple discussions, they eventually allowed us to stay in the restaurant lobby. Furthermore, at dinner time, we were not permitted entry into the restaurant until 6:30, forcing us to wait in uncomfortable conditions. Now, regarding the room: the condition was unacceptable. We found a used item on the bed, along with dust and hair underneath. The cleanliness was akin to a two-star facility, despite the high price we paid. When we reported that the air conditioning was not functioning, maintenance took over an hour to respond, which impacted our ability to enjoy the sunny weather. We subsequently requested a room change, but encountered similar issues in the new room. Overall, this resort is not suitable for families with young children or anyone seeking a luxurious experience. The food quality was also lacking. We later upgraded to the Fantasia hotel, which was significantly better. Additionally, many other guests and staff shared similar sentiments about the Grand Punta Cana Resort, suggesting it may not be in operation much longer. I strongly recommend considering other options for your vacation to ensure an enjoyable experience

Mixed Feelings
We had been to Bahia Coba in Mexico for the previous two years and enjoyed both visits so we thought we would have a change and try the Bahia hotel out in the DR. We had a few issues with the room (similar to what other people have previously posted), air con practically non existent, fridge very poor. I rang reception and visited customer services a few times, did nothing with the air con but just said that when the new rooms become available they will be much better - very helpful : ), the fridge they eventually swapped. The weird one was the wifi in the room, for the two weeks we were there it stopped working Thursday morning and miraculously returned Saturday morning. it wasn't just our room it was two villas same time, both weeks. Does this happen to other villas on different days? The Coba buffet is what you would expect, but always found something tasty, the swim up bar is extremely busy, you had to feel sorry for the guy serving as they could never catch up. It seems like it was all negative but there were positives. the main being that as we travelled with TUI and because of the renovation work, we were handed silver wristbands where you could venture into all the other hotels, what a difference, the pool and buffet at Esmeralda was amazing, no problem at the swim up bar etc, practically at one point had the pool to ourselves, the sports bar was great. We did two excursions - Congo Bongo and a boat tour to do a bit of snorkelling - Both enjoyable. So overall a mixed bag, would I go back? Probably not and definitely would not return if the silver bands had stopped. I have seen the question asked on here - Coba at Mexico or the Grand Punta Cana? my opinion would be Coba everytime, food, wildlife, drinks basically everything is superior.

Excellent place, would recommend!!
Excellent place to stay, service was amazing, very clean, only problem was a nasty tummy upset from uncooked fried chicken, this happened to a few of the people that stayed there at the same time. This was reported to restaurant staff who didn’t seem to be bothered and nothing was done. Apart from that our stay was fabulous and I would highly recommend this hotel, just not the fried chicken!!
