Not a 5 star hotel!!! Be advised.
Terrible Experience – Not Worth the Money I stayed at Bahia Principe Grand Punta Cana with my family (2 adults and 2 children), and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. We booked a room for four people, but when we arrived, there were only three beds. I requested an extra bed four separate times, and each time I was dismissed. The manager, Esteban, was completely unhelpful and claimed that the furniture couldn’t be moved, so there was nothing the hotel could do. In the end, I had to find a foldable bed myself and carry it to the room at 11:00 PM. That is completely unacceptable for a supposedly “grand” resort. To make matters worse, the shower didn’t work, the room was filthy, and there were only two towels for a family of four. Basic cleanliness and customer service were clearly not a priority. There are many better hotel options in Punta Cana for the same price or even less. I regret booking here and strongly advise others to look elsewhere.

Lovely holiday shame about some staff
We enjoyed our stay here, lots of activities throughout the day and great for kids. Entertainment on the evening is good however we were very confused for our first 2 nights. In the main lobby there is generally a singer (Spanish speaking hardly any English songs) on till about 10pm so we thought entertainment must finish at that time. However after venturing out after 10pm we found the karaoke/sports bar was busy at that time and then club/discotheque next door opened at 12. We had a great few nights here. I don’t know if it’s the culture or the hotel but lots of staff do not smile or seem to want to be here. Maybe it’s because we’re English and our hospitality is different to the carribean? It was just quite surprising as you’re expected to tip people however they don’t seem to earn their tips. The Wi-Fi is only good in some areas of the pool. Food - buffet very tasty and variety of options, they also cook fresh pasta or stir fry noodles if you want to create your own. However queues can be long at the buffet, definitely the busiest buffet I have been to in a hotel. Restaurants served nice food and you could have around 4 courses, tasty food however service was not what I was expecting for al a carte. No one explained how it worked or offered you a menu, when the server comes to ask what you want they don’t actually speak they just stand there and expect you to know what to say/where to start. However one man in the Italian restaurant was the friendliest, he was smiley and talkative. And the staff and the vibe of the Japanese restaurants were amazing definitely go there! The snack bar “the truck” located near the beach is fab! Really tasty food, you order on the screens and collect your food usually only take a couple of minutes very quick service. Staff Entertainment team were definitely the friendliest. Lots of smiles and talking to people. Servers majority did not smile or seem like they wanted to be there. Bar staff, definitely trying their best to get round to everyone quickly, most were friendly and chatty but some would roll their eyes or make a face if you ask them to make a cocktail. Cleaners, our cleaner was friendly greeting us everyday. The cleaning was good but basic as there is lots of black marks on skirting boards or corners of the room, just could do with more of a deep clean occasionally. Also, the plate of fruit provided in our room was not changed or removed the whole time of our stay which resulted in mouldy fruit that we ended up throwing away ourself. But obviously bed was made everyday and basics kept up with so was generally clean. Toilets by the pool were constantly been cleaned which was great. Groundkeepers, lots of them around constantly keeping the place tidy, even checking bushes for any rubbish. Also doing lots of painting of the place outside. Lots of jet washing the floors outside. Things you may not know if you haven’t been to a resort or the carribean: Golf buggy’s are available every couple of minutes to take you to your room or the buffet or beach etc. Make sure you book the al a carte restaurants in advance as some of them get fully booked quickly. There are some pushy representatives trying to sell things, if you’re not interested try not to entertain the conversation as they can become frustrated and rude if you have been looking at something but don’t buy it. Only book excursions through staff within the hotel, we booked Saona island through a rep called Santiago, was really nice and informative, but not pushy at the same time! I would say learn Spanish!!! They seem much more helpful to guests that speak Spanish, we are English speaking and felt a bit left out at times as they didn’t seem interested in us but did with Spanish guests. You can bring your own personal cups/bottles/flask which they will put drinks in for you (if you want it to stay colder for longer and like having a lid)

Negative rating
I had written a review recently of my experience at the resort but forgot to mention another negative with the food. My cousin, Freda Salyers was eating breakfast to find something disgusting in her food. Freda, here was your morning breakfast surprise at the Bahia Principe Grand Punta Cana, 3 supervisors who I did not photograph came by to inspect the leftover chicken bone cooked with your bacon. Date, Friday May 30, 2025 at 7:32AM in the buffet. What happened after this was reported, well nothing at all it was just swept under the rug, except my picture. The bone appeared when she went to cut the bacon, you will note it had been eaten so it was waste.

Do NOT Waste Your Vacation Here
From the moment we arrived, this resort was a disaster. Staff were clueless — it took over 20 mins and multiple employees just to find our room, which ended up being the wrong one. It had double beds, visible feces in the toilet, and rock-hard mattresses. We were told we could get the room we actually reserved if we paid $300 under the table. Staff ignored us when trying to make reservations, gave wrong directions, and constantly tried to solicit tips, cash deals, and even inappropriate services. Facilities were filthy: pools filled with Band-Aids, buffets crawling with roaches and flies, and bars with unsanitary drink prep. We witnessed cross-contamination at food stations, rude employees, and total disorganization across all restaurants. Amenities like the gym were closed without notice. Stray cats roam everywhere. WiFi is nearly useless. Only highlights: the A/C works and Thali Indian Restaurant was fantastic. Otherwise, this place is a scammy, mismanaged nightmare. Avoid at all costs.

Amazing hotel
Absolutely amazing hotel, very clean food was so nice so much to choose from, such a huge complex , staff very attentive. Room was a newly renovated one which really was so big and clean. Bottled water and fizzy drinks and beer restocked every day . Pools lovely plenty to choose from. Would definitely recommend this hotel
- AdvisoryThe Dominican Republic imposes various restrictions each year for Easter. They usually begin the Thursday prior to Good Friday and run a few days past Easter Sunday. The following regulations may be enforced: -Motorized water sports may be banned -Non-motorized water sports may be limited or banned -Alcohol consumption may be restricted (most resorts get a permit enabling them to serve alcohol to nonnative people during the ban) -Music may be limited or silenced
- AdvisoryThe hotel will renovate 288 rooms with modern designs and high-quality furnishings, enhancing guest comfort. Construction (April 21–Nov 30, 2025) will relocate guests to villas to avoid disruption. Upgrades include pools, restaurants (buffet, Japanese, Grill), lobby, bar, theater, and gym. Affected services will temporarily shift: pools remain open, reception moves to Bouganville, and dining/theater/gym access is redirected. New areas debut Dec 1, with fencing to reduce visual impact.
