    It was awesome

We stayed here for 8 days and it was a good experience staff was all friendly and polite. Santos Velazquez made our trip even better nothing but smiles from him, great hospitality, and great drinks. We would absolutely come back just to see him again he made our trip awesome!

    Excellent beautiful premium

Beautiful Premium Ocean Front Junior Suite booked for 12 days was spent relaxing in all inclusive luxury thanks to our amigo Oscar. A la carte restaurant reservations for every night were booked in advance on our behalf for Italian, Japanese, Mexican, Spanish and Steak house fare. All were excellent. It will be our lucky day if we can return here in a future year to enjoy the hospitality of the excellent Barcelos staff once again

    No complaints

I travelled with my friend Jan 19-27 We arrived around 9:30 pm as our flight was late. We had a private transfer so arrived before any crowds. No welcome drink. Check in went well and had o bellhop bring us to our room. We stayed on the Beach section., Room was clean except a couple things in the bathroom which we left a note for housekeeping the next morning and it was addressed. We went to strikers to eat as buffet was closed. It was very busy as many people had arrived and this was the only place to eat. Food was good. Buffets were good with lots of selection. We mainly ate at the Beach buffet but also the Caribe buffet. All meals were good as we always found something to eat. Only complaint was the food was often not hot. Did not care for Mexican night. Had a prime rib dinner one night it was excellent. The grounds were gorgeous and very clean and the pools were huge!! There are tons of activities for kids here. We didn't partake in any of the party pools, but it sounded and looked like a lot of fun! The beach views were very nice but the ocean water at this section wasn't great at all. The others were very nice with less rocks and clear blue water. We spent most all of our time at the Beach pool where we had the BEST SERVICE from IRENE SANCHEZ The drinks kept flowing and never had to ask for rounds she always just showed up with cups of our drinks which we poured into our insulated mugs or sometimes she took her mugs and had them filled. She also brought us some really delicious shooters.! Brought bottles of water too. Always smiling and a very pleasant server. Included picture of Irene. Servers in the snack bars were generally very polite. We saw monkeys a few times a couple of iguanas not much else for wildlife, but we did have some beautiful birds. Come visit us on our patio. I would recommend this resort and I would go back although I do like to try different ones. I'm giving this a 5 star because Irene made our days at the pool most enjoyable!

I cannot manage short description. Read the review

Barcelo true story I will try to score Barcelo the best to my abilities The highest score is 10 1. Beaches: 9 The beaches are mostly great. I withhold one point because in most parts it is difficult to to get in and out of water. there are many painful rocks and stip ground. 2. Room: 4-5, depends on location We booked our vacation a half of year in advance. We suppose to be in a room with 2 beds and we got just one. It especially hurts when you know that rooms with 2 beds been given to locals that storming Barcelo each weekend. They definetely did not book it 6 month in advance and definetely did not pay more. So, it is not a profit reason. Smells to me as a pure discrimination or indifference. The room's bathroom does not have forced ventillation and does not have simple door letch which could be incovinient. The proper functioning of faucets is a metter of luck. Each weekend when Barcelo is full of locals there is a shortage of hot water. The same happens when Barcelo hosts some events. Since sound proof does not exist, during those times you are exposed to all sofisticated conversations during the middle of the night. When people come just for 2-3 days they do not want to waist their precious time for miserable sober existance and sleeping. 3. Restaurants: 4-5 When you are in Mexico you would expect testy fresh vegies and fruites. Right ? Unfortunately wrong. The fruits and veggies have no taste. Your US or Canada fruites and vegies during the winter are of better selection. Only some fruites are riped. From 5 or 6 cheeses offered just one has some taste. Cottage cheese, sour cream, yogurts are good. Capuchino is good (with a tip of course) The fish selection is very limited and is mostly the waist of raw materials. It is somewhat better in A-la-carte restaurants. BTW, the mashed potato in the A-la-carte restaurants is made from powder and vegies are not well cooked. So much for A-la-carte ... Expect shortages of many items during crowded weekends 4. Drink water availability: 4 Even Mexican driver told us NOT to drink the tap water. So, you need a lot of bottled water to drink, to cleen your teeth, etc. We had just one or two bottles of water brought to our room during room cleaning and not always. Besides of that the bottled water is only evailable in the beach bars where you need to wait in long line of people waiting for their coctails. Cannot understand why bottled water is NOT available in buffets or easy accesed places in the bars. Are we expected to tip for water ? 5. Tipping culture: 4 I am not against tipping. I think it is a good way to encourage people for exceptional service. The key word here exceptional, not regular. The question is: should it be expected everywhere in an all inclusive resort? Should it be considered as a part of wages as I was told? Should I carry in my trunks some US dollars just in the case I got thirsty? Even in buffet it is expected to tip for coffee or an alcoholic drink. People told me that in the past you can have it in buffet without asking a waiter. Not anymore. You have to ask for it and it is expected to be tipped. If you do not drink coffee or alcohol, that is it, the carma is lost. Is it how it supposed to be? 6. Smoking culture: 0 The No Smoking is not enforced at all. People can blow their poison in your face at will. Once I was watching a fellow that was smoking some chip sigar and blowing it's aroma a quoter of mile around him. Nobody would stop him. Paradise. 7. A-la-carte dressing code: 5 Could you imaging 30 (even more) degrees celsius outside. The requirement for men is to wear long pants, socks and shoes. Ladies are luckier. They are allowed to wear skirts and open footware. Practically, you have to bring you A-la-carte closes and change before and after visiting restaurant. Sounds convinient, right ? 8. WIFI: 4 Wifi is very spotty, do not rely on it, especially on beaches. 9. Quiteness: 2 Load music is everywhere. There is no way to hide. Just to swim far from the shore. The theaters acustics is awful, especially for low tone frequencies. Sound proof in rooms (even expensive ones) does not exist.
