This hotel offers pro’s and cons. We loved the pool design, overlooking the beach was stunning. Pool maintenance could have been better, Green scum around pool walls was there for whole holiday, saw pool guy cleaning half heartedly cleaning it on our last day! Would have been nice to see the pool lit at night , maybe floating lights if no lighting built in would have been nice. and have a seating area to sit out at night would have been more sociable. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable but the room was a little l tired and old, bedding old and needed some light fitting maintenance. Only one lift working for entire hotel of 6 floors, apparently second lift been out of action for many months. Even housekeepers use one available lift which is crazy at busy times. All staff very helpful, felt well looked after at all times. The all inclusive aspect is good, the breakfast and lunch in the restaurant was good, and the drinks availability was excellent. Sumo Japanese restaurant wasn’t great, not particularly Japanese by any means and the roach seen in there really put us off. The best restaurants in our opinion were Pier12 and the Old Barn steakhouse. We were disappointed by the menu options at Shangrila however the setting was beautiful. Be aware that not all restaurants are open every night, so 2 out of 6 restaurants open on any one night. We felt lucky that we had air on in our room throughout the holiday, however some of the other guests weren’t so lucky and had to move rooms when rooms with air con were available. Over all the hotel is dated and tired and could do with an uplift and better maintenance but you get what you pay for and if you want luxury you have to pay for it in Cancun.

Cancun 2025
Love this place. It is like home to us. We go every year around the same time. We always choose this place because it is small, only 6 floors amid looming resorts, and faces onto the beach the same as those do. Has only a few restaurants and not multiple. Easy to get around in. Yes, it probably needs some updating. If you are looking for slick, this is not it. If you are looking for small and comfortable, this is it. And the best part is that the people who work here are awesome, each and every one, from the guy who takes your luggage, to the bartender, to the desk people, and especially the workers in the food venues. How many places can you go once a year where they come up to you and hug you and welcome back. We will keep choosing it.

Waste of money
First trip to Mexico, was expecting a higher standard for a 4* hotel, from check in where my girl friends and I had to change rooms, constant smell of damp in the rooms, no towels in my room, lift has not been working for nearly a year, so waiting on one lift, food standards poor, outside bar was been decorated as we arrived, and then when completed played elevator music, nothing lively ,brown water coming from sink & shower. Chipped plates & cups, was informed by a waiter that I couldn’t have a cup of hot water during dinner service. Only entertainment was pool exercise, Sixties bar where no entertainment apart from dance floor and pool table. Pool not lit at night, so be careful if you’ve had a few drinks in the evening. Not enough umbrellas for protection from the sun.No fridge in rooms I have travelled the world and without a doubt this was the worse place I’ve ever stayed. That I had to leave and check into another hotel. And to be told our standard was too high. Best thing about this place is the staff, Carlos breakfast waiter great energy, and Ricardo & Rebecca bartenders.

Dated! Nasty! Stay away
Everything was being renovated, stinks like crazy, meat is nasty... everything is so very dated... really needs a facelift... food is very unsanitary.. only Pier 12 was edible. Lots of things closed for renovations. All travel sites have false information lister

Needs lots of work but lovely people
Definitely NOT 4 star Outdated- needs attention Shocking WiFi- ask at reception for private one No tea coffee facilities in room No fridge in room Pillows very very lumpy Beds too soft and sag in middle Noisy in rooms Lift wasn’t working when we first arrived so walk up 4 flights of stairs Coffee machine needed somewhere to access all hours Be aware- taxis at airports will rip you off- it should not cost £120 for a 15 min transfer to the hotel. We had no other option and didn’t realise. Book a transfer before you leave! No smoking anywhere apart from front of building- even on balcony’s- and if you’re caught- £500 fine. And stick to the 200 for each person as fine of £320 if you try and bring more in! Not enough umbrellas around the pool. Entertainment needs to be more entertaining! Karaoke was for 1 hour and very regimental- no one allowed to do more than one song- a lot of unhappy youngsters! Mexican night too loud and not brilliant. Quiz night- 1 question and the activity person left- again more unhappy people! Whistles blowing also very annoying for the aerobics and the volley ball.. and please less of the ridiculous moaning noises from the male entertainer - it’s not funny- and we don’t want to hear what you sound like having a good time!!! Actually quite disturbing!! the buffet isn’t open every night and this isn’t communicated, there are other restaurants but a lot more limited with choice! And not much.. advertised as all inclusive buffet but not! We ordered a domino’s of just eat There is a lovely shop but it wasn’t open the whole time of our stay! Room service is very good though and snack bar open throughout the night until 4am. Only one lift works.. chipped crockery Positives: Good air con Staff very nice and accommodating Music is good for all tastes but very off putting when 2 different sets of music is playing around the pool. Not very relaxing. Stunning views with ocean view room clean and always staff around cleaning. The tipi bar by the sea is good to meet people and bar staff great fun. Especially Ricky and David. You both are fabulous!
