Still our favorite over 20+ years!

Iberostar Tucan/Quetzal has been our favorite family-friendly AI since choosing this property over 20 years ago. We’ve only enjoyed day passes here for the past 8 years because we had built a retirement home north of PDC. We’ve since sold our home here to return to traveling, and this September visit to the Tucan/Quetzal was like a homecoming for us…All the reasons we loved this property back then are still there - The natural setting with the old-growth trees/jungle area, the wildlife roaming the property, the beautiful, open-air design of the lobbies and public areas, the quality of food, the beach and pools, and of course the amazing staff. We prefer the size of the Tucan/Quetzal over the larger properties, easy to walk and not overwhelming. We also much prefer the more Spanish-style of the T/Q and the traditional suites with separate bathrooms over other more contemporary-designed resorts. And as mentioned the natural setting is just beautiful, with a variety of animals and birds roaming the property. We stayed in Q bldg 20 which is the Quetzal oceanfront bldg, and the view from our 2nd floor balcony in room 2025 was spectacular. The room is quite comfortable and clean. The AC was just barely acceptable, however, and without the ceiling fan we would have been looking for another room. The AC in 2021 was a bit better…One minor observation - the water temp in both rooms was very inconsistent, changing from very hot to very cold throughout our showers. That may not normally be an issue, and again isn’t a big problem. Everything else was fine…Can’t imagine a nicer spot from which to watch the cruise ships come and go, and the sunrise. You can’t beat the view from the 2nd floor sea-facing suites, but if stairs are a concern look at the ground-floor units which have “walk-outs” directly to the lawn and beach palapas. The beach area in front of bldg 20 is much less busy than the Tucan side… We love the main pool here, and the swim-up bar pool was much cooler most of the day. We stayed at the RIU Palace Riviera Maya the following week and the pools were absolutely wicked hot and we spent very little time in them. (One note - we stay at the RIUs only because we get very inexpensive vouchers, otherwise we would not be there). The food at the Tucan/Quetzal was good-to-excellent as usual. Loved the offerings at the Smokehouse, the Japanese was very good (but hot by the grill), and the Italian and Med were just OK…main buffet was good with many choices each day… Still our favorite family-friendly AI property in Mexico, and we look forward to returning! Our nephew and his girlfriend enjoyed their visit as well. We took advantage of our favorite taxi driver for excursions we came to know while living here. Just a genuinely humble gentleman with excellent prices who puts safety first while sharing his love of this area! Cannot recommend the Tucan/Quetzal highly enough!

The best service and the best restaurant mexicain food I never try

I want to take a few minutes to describe to you the most beautiful culinary experience I have had in an all inclusive hotel in my entire life and it happens at the Iberostar Waves Queztal more precisely at the Mexican a la carte restaurant Uxmal firstly I would like to thank Mr Omar for his 5 star service I have never felt as happy as being served with him an extraordinary professionalism and a respect and a joy that transmits us exceptional I have already been to 2 star Michelin restaurants and I can assure you that Omar far exceeds them, secondly I wanted to thank the chef Jesus a super nice and very humble man he came to see us at the table I felt really pampered his dishes were on another level one of the best Mexican cuisine I have eaten so far and his guagamole my god so good! I want to thank these 2 people who completely changed my trip with their knowledge and it is thanks to these 2 people that I will come back without a doubt at this hotel at Christmas!! thank you again my dear friends❤️❤️❤️

We went to other Iberostar hotels in Lanzarote,Spain,Greece,Punta Cana.

First of all there are No special curtains for the insects and mosquitoes. The room phone did not work after 2 days and nothing changed even if I reported it. There were problems with the chain at the toilet and the tap at the sink. Even if the workers showed up and solved the problems,it is not acceptable for a 5 star hotel. The laundry service delivered our clothes only after we complained at the desk. It is unacceptable to not have toilet brushes for the toilet! It is compulsory for a 5 star hotel! I would like to thank a lot to the working staff who are so dedicated to their hard work(cleaning ladies, cooks, waiters and waitresses, reception, concierge. Excellent appreciation to Claudia Crystel cleaning lady,Carmen massage lady and Iran and other drivers. Tudorina Fantana

    Club Member Experience

Iberostar Club Member Experience - I often see disparaging comments about Iberostar the Club and how that experience taints others. As a club member, I can say that Iberostar has honored the contract at every moment. I would encourage other members to become familiar with their contract and ask for everything they have earned through their membership. With that said, my wife and I were picked up from the airport and transported directly to the hotel. We landed in Cancun, but recently found out that a new airport is located in Tulum. However, during our stay we could not find a single person that had arrived through Tulum airport. Once we arrived at the Quetzal we were escorted to the Star Prestige lounge, just to the right as one enters. We were greeted by Jessica, who was very concerned about when we last ate that she made sure we had food before checking into the hotel. Mario, in the Star Presatige lounge, which is private and only available to members, made a couple cocktails that were exquisite. We checked in and immediately set up spa treatments (massages) and pedicures for the afternoon and the following day. As a member, depending on the level, one gets complimentary massages daily or a discount. The spa is really small compared to some of the others and requires advanced reservations. I would suggest setting up the first spa treatment through the email from the Prestige Lounge before you even arrive. They have jungle massages and beach, too. I caution you about mosquitos, but they aren't crazy bad like some places. Whether you stay at the Quetzal of the Tucan, you can enjoy all the amenities of either. Although, we generally saw that the Tucan was much more fun than the Quetzal. The lobby bar was always hopping with plenty of people. The beach was the best beach of all the Iberostar Hotels we have stayed at (so far), which is four. We are trying to visit at least one hotel we haven't been to each year. The rooms were a little dark and it was hard to read a book in the room. They could use brighter lights for at least one of the lamps. The bed was very comfortable. However, I prefer feather pillows. They don't really restock the rooms. you have to ask. However, the Star Prestige Concierge's make everything happen. Just call and it is yours. There is no room service, but they have late night snacks. They aren't all that yummy and appeared to be leftovers, but they do the trick. The Club Member Beach has the best beach staff we have every experienced. They are attentive and very helpful. People often ask me about tips. Tips are not necessary but can be offered and are usually accepted. I don't tip unless a service was received above and beyond the expectation. Then I will give a tip appropriate with the service. I have never seen someone not receive good service just because a tip was not received. One last thing. We have stayed at the Grand Punta Cana and the Grand Paraiso (someone recently changed the name to Joya, which is lost on me). The staff at both sites are top notch. However, I would offer that the staff at the Quetzal is equivalent in service of the Grand Hotels.

Family of 4 first time to Mexico - Amazing experience

First timers in Mexico family of 4. The Hotel was amazing. Jordan our concierge was fantastic. He made sure all our needs were met, explained everything that we needed to know and was always on hand when needed. Jordan made our stay 10/10. We did feel sorry for the staff that had to wear long sleeves and trousers, as we were sweating god knows how hot they were. This is a must visit hotel. All the staff were so friendly, accommodating and always made sure you had a drink 😉 Great staff team from the lobby to poolside. Thanks for having us and we will definitely be visiting again.
