  Not a top resort.

  As a local travel agent that sells more than a million dollars in revenue a year, I never thought I would be the one dealing with issues like this. It started planning my dream wedding. I wanted a nice tropical place that offered all the amenities of Cancun and yet was still affordable for my guests. Maybe that should have been my first clue. When the wedding is only 5000 and you get excited because you are doing your best to stay in budget. Quickly that was blown out of the water. The DJ cost as much as the entire wedding and reception. Outside vendors are 900 to bring on the property. Fine - So now, our wedding alone, we spent 22000. It is the ONLY time I am going to be married and I am almost 50 so I saved and saved all my hard earned money and built the wedding of my dreams. Everything was booked to the final detail. Much to our surprise, we were blessed enough to have 68 guests come and celebrate us. We did all the planning, the reservations, the spa appointments, EVERYTHING for each guest. Chocolate dipped strawberries delivered to every room to show the guests how much they meant to us with a card of thanks. We arrived on Sunday at 3 PM. Gave the cards to the front desk. This is where it all started. Strawberries were delivered with no card, hotel told guests it was a check in gift for them. Not that it was from us. The manager "Ricardo" never was able to tell a good story, just lie after lie every time his mouth opened. Because it was important to me for the guests to know that we appreciate that they spent money and came to celebrate us, I spent 2 entire days in the lobby to greet each guest. Not enjoying the resort I paid for but passing out cards that the staff was unable to do correctly if at all. This was only the start of several issues. I had a guest with no AC for 48 hours because maintenance never came. I had a guest with a toilet he had to fix himself because maintenance never came. Staff walking in rooms while guests were napping and in the shower - no knock and the deadbolt locks were not working in any room. My elderly mother with NO AC even after repeated complaints to get it done. My daughter and grandson in a room without a locking door. Another guest with feces on the patio that was never removed. One guest with a leaky roof. In addition, dont fall for the upgrade that is in your wedding contract because that will never happen. It was only given to us after multiple complaints to the office about the status of our guests experiences. We gave it up if they would fix things which they never did. When we arrived we were told that 2 restaurants required reservations. Reservations you can only make once on site and once a room number has been assigned. One didnt have reservations the entire time we were here and the other was closed for the duration of our visit. This left my guests with buffet or off site dinners. Last nights cost us a total of 4000.00 and that was only half of our guests. I am livid. We have no recourse. Nothing we can do. Their solution to everything is a bottle of wine, which I will NOT drink. All of this should have been disclosed to us at the time of booking. We managed to get 1 reservation at hibachi for a few guests after crying to the front office for the 15th time. They made a guest leave because a child under the age of 5 counted as an adult. SERIOUSLY????? This is slated as a 5 star resort. There is nothing 5 star about it. There are no wait staff at the pool, there is minimal cleaning done in the rooms, maintenance is awful and the buggies for transportation, you are judged as a lazy American anytime you ask to be picked up. Now to start on the resort itself. It is tailored for kids. All the activities in the pool are for kids. The large pool, where most people want to be is full of kids games and hot water. While the adult pool is more refreshing, it is small. No wait staff at the pool. No room service. No ability to take food to your room, even though I was told prior that I could. Mini bar, also a joke. 2 beers and a soda are not a mini bar. 10/10 - do not recommend. Stay far away from this resort. While the jungle animal life is amazing, it doesnt make up for the experience.

  Food review

  The hotel has beautiful grounds and very well kept. The staff overall were very good and tried to please. The food was good but not great. Specialty restaurant had "Catch of the day" Farm raised Tilapia (Usually from Vietnam) is not fresh or "catch of the day" At breakfast buffet asked for decaf coffee, (Dr put me on a diet). Was given a jar of Nescafe instant. Awful and not 5 star.

  Absolute Paradise!

  I can’t say enough positive things about this resort ! The wildlife here gives a truly unique experience. Watching the monkeys never failed to entertain and amaze me. The main pool and adults only pool were spectacular. Never had a problem getting a lounger any day we were here. We stayed in building 15 and loved the location. It was only a quick walk to the buffet and lobby as well the pool. The pathway to the jungle was literally a few steps from our room The food was good as were the drinks. The staff was very attentive and I can’t say enough about them. The beach was huge and the water was absolutely gorgeous. We will definitely be back!

  Iberostar Tucan...a great jungle experience

  We’ve just returned from a wonderful family holiday at Iberostar Waves Tucan and overall we had a wonderful vacation. The resort is located in the safe, gated community. Walking through the jungle was our highlight each day. The resort is surrounded by lush jungle and incredible wildlife. There are monkeys, coatis, birds, peacocks, rabbits, and parrots. The jungle is well lit at night as well and safe to walk through at night. It also has concrete pathways which makes it easy to walk through. The resort is very committed to the environment and echo practices. The hotel offers refillable water stations at every floor of each building. Their bathroom toiletries are also ecologically friendly products. The beach was beautiful with lush coconut trees, hammocks to lounge on and plenty of palapas. The adult pool areas were great. Its located in a cave like surroundings with a swim up barand water falls. It was a beautiful view overlooking the main pool. We had a ocean front room so each morning we were able to see the beautiful Ocean view with the blue turquoise water and the coconut trees swaying with the wind. Out of the ocean we could see all the high cruise ships embarking each day over Cozimel. The staff were truly wonderful — friendly, helpful. There were lots of activities happening throughout the day for all ages, but you can choose to just hang out in the lobby area which is surrounded with waterfalls and greenery. All in all , the resort is.beautiful with nice and clean rooms and beautiful surroundings. Enjoy the buffet view close to the openedge. The fishes swim by back and forth. Overall it was a great experience.

  Brilliant staff & incredible food options make the hotel shine - renovation of bedrooms much needed

  We’ve just returned from a wonderful family holiday at Iberostar Waves Tucan in Playa del Carmen, and overall, we were very impressed! The resort is located in the safe, gated community of Playacar. It’s surrounded by lush jungle and incredible wildlife, we saw monkeys, coatis, and tropical birds daily, which made it feel extra special. The setting is peaceful, beautifully maintained, and feels close to nature. One thing that really stood out was the resort’s strong environmental commitment. From refillable water stations to eco-themed kids’ club activities focused on protecting the oceans and reefs, it was fantastic to see. The food was a major highlight, especially with our 18-month old. The buffet had tons of variety and never felt repetitive. We also tried most of the à la carte restaurants shared with the Quetzal side, Cozumel and Tulum were our favorites! A fun touch was the poolside soft-serve ice cream hut open daily, a big win for all ages! The beach was beautiful with plenty of loungers. The pool areas were great too, though a large portion of the pool is quite deep, so it’s worth noting if you're not a confident swimmer. The kids’ water play area could use a refurb, as it was looking a bit tired. Our only real disappointment was the room. We booked a premium all-inclusive option, but the room felt outdated and lacked practical features like enough outlets. The bathroom especially needs an upgrade. Also, there was no room service included and the mini-bar was minimal (just basic beer and soda not quite what we expected from a premium package. That said, the housekeeping was excellent! The staff were truly wonderful — friendly, helpful, and great with kids. There were lots of activities happening throughout the day for all ages, which really brought the resort to life and made our stay even more enjoyable. Despite a few drawbacks, this resort delivered a fantastic family experience filled with great food, warm service, and beautiful surroundings.
