  Outdated and poor quality food selections

  The hotel is very outdated. The ac units sound very loud and go out at times. The food quality was terrible. They lack staff.

  Beautiful beach, well located, great food!

  My husband and I stayed at the Barcelo Occidental Tucancun for 5 nights in April, 2025. We have had GREAT experiences with Barcelo resorts in the past. After reading the reviews, we lowered our expectations. However, we thought it was great! With just a few drawbacks. The A/C in the room didn't work very well, the room needed maintenance and the water went out a few times (probably outside of their control). But overall, we thought it was wonderful! The food was GREAT! We were scared after reading reviews. Ha! The beach is gorgeous. Plenty of chairs (but no umbrellas). We had an ocean front room and the view was wonderful from the balcony. It's not the Ritz, but you aren't paying Ritz prices. There are 3 pools, one of which is adults only. Plenty of food choices. Service is great! I'd definitely recommend, but don't expect luxury. They just need to do some renovating and it will be top notch! Thanks Barcelo!

  Lack of food variety

  Overall it was average, definitely quality, variety and food temperature was not good. I love Mexican food, the menus and buffet were basic.

  Wonderful vacation!

  We arrived at this hotel in May. The hotel is located right next to the beach, it is advisable to immediately book a room with an ocean view and then, opening the doors, you can watch the ocean 24/7 and it is amazing. The ocean is very beautiful. The room is very quiet and calm, at the same time, the hotel constantly has animation. Being in the most beautiful place, you can also very quickly get to all the shops. The location is just perfect. Arriving at the hotel, you are greeted in a friendly manner and are always ready to help you.

  Cannot beat the Price, Location, and Personal Attention Attention

  I found for the price this place cannot be beat! You get a beautiful room, it is extremely clean and comfortable. While it is not recently updated everything works, was in good shape, and was really comfortable. Again in this price range there is no comparison. The property is safe, the security professionals are just that professionals, the front desk can take some time for check in but it is not unreasonable at all and it is because they are thorough and answer questions. The views are amazing. The room service on all 4 occasions was better then the 1k a night hotel i have stayed at nearby and on 3different 700+ a night hotel down the coast. Literally beat room service I have had in Mexico from the greater Cancun area, to Puerto Vallarta, and even Mexico city! I was shocked at how amazing it was and consistent! The delivery time ranged from 30 mins to 90. The bartenders are friendly and the other service staff are top notch. I felt safe and comfortable the whole time and if you want to be off-site there are two nearby malls a ton of walkable restaurants and several convenience stores nearby. The nightly entertainment...was wild! The DJ and Karaoke was out of this world and all the guests that came were into it, sang along, and had a blast. The other show I went to had great dancing and had way better production value than I expected. What really set this place apart, was the personal care. I was here alone for work and a dental tourism visit, the staff checked on me to make I was comfortable and safe, they helped me get soft foods, made sure to assist on a day when I was struggling with pain and brought hot towels, ice, a kettle, and soup! I have to shout out Mr. Jose Martin, an incredible staff member and manager. He called me from his home to make sure I was okay when I missed a dinner reservation (at 9pm after I know he worked over 12 hours), he what's app.d me on both of his days off to check on me and offer any assistance. His staff take his lead and example and do the same from housekeeping to customer service and the servers at the restaurants. I have talked to three other sets of guests that he provided that same level of care for. It's is refreshing no matter where in the world you are. I will be back because of the staff it made me feel like customer service and pride in work are not lost! I recommend any take the chance to stay in this paradise with old school levels of customer service, personal touches, and caring. Whether your a family, couple, or going solo this is the spot! I know an overly wordy review but we have to recognize quality and great service as much as we rush to the computer to write a bad review. This place is amazing! Thank you again to all the staff!
