Our room was absolutely beautiful on the beach and our butler Deiby did such a great job being attentive and kind the whole week. We are very simple but he made sure to check in throughout each day and made all of our reservations. Very grateful for him! We really enjoyed the food at the steak house, privilege lounge, and Sakura. The lazy river was so fun, and we were in there a lot. The entertainment in the square and the cirque show was awesome. So glad we did this!

Do not eat the hotdogs.totally gross and when you learn what those are made of, you will puke. Foot all over the resort is less than average however we heard that the Steak House was very good. Resort offer no casual atmosphere where you and friends can drink cold beer and enjoy the evening. BTW, the entire island has a severe lack of beer choices. The resort beach was the worst I've ever, ever seen. Good service and friendly people all over, which was nice.

Not a terrible resort, but too many small issues to overlook
We stayed at Ocean El Faro from April 10 to April 17, traveling from Toronto, Ontario. Three adults, no kids. Having visited the Dominican Republic over 10 times and stayed at similar-tier resorts, we found this experience mixed. We did not upgrade to El Beso or Privilege packages, though after reading other reviews, those upgrades may have improved the stay. Positives: Omar and Danny at the pool bar were the highlight — friendly, efficient, and entertaining. Drinks were varied, well made, and never seemed watered down. The resort grounds look nice and well maintained. The buffet had a great selection; breakfast was especially good with multiple egg stations and ample bacon, avoiding long lines. As an animal lover, I enjoyed spending time with the resort’s dogs and cats. The adults-only section in the buffet was a nice touch for dining without children around. The coffee shop offers plenty of seating and is a pleasant spot, though lines can get long. Mixed: Plenty of vegetarian options, but vegan choices were very limited (soy milk at breakfast was appreciated). Meal attendants were generally pleasant, but one hostess wrongly refused us entry at lunch because men were “not allowed to wear tank tops.” After changing and returning, another hostess apologized and said that was a mistake, which was appreciated but frustrating given we were hungry and tired. Our room had an unusual layout that felt cramped. Everything showed wear and tear, bedding was insufficient, and furniture was uncomfortable. The rooftop jacuzzi is a neat idea but poorly executed — little privacy, tub is slow to fill, and no shelter from sun or rain. Negatives: We informed the hotel in advance about a friend’s milestone birthday and mentioned it at check-in, but nothing special was done. It’s frustrating to see others receive free upgrades or perks seemingly without reason. Surprisingly, the check-in and main lobby bar staff were the rudest we encountered. After a tough workout, we asked for water and were told to return to our room to order it instead of being helped directly. Paying to play pool is unusual for a resort and felt off-putting. Our room wasn’t cleaned well prior to arrival, with hair in the bathroom and dead bugs on the floor. One day, we were told the breakfast buffet was full and offered the Italian a la carte as an alternative. The selection was much smaller, items were missing, and service was slow and incorrect. After this experience, we made sure to arrive earlier for breakfast. The gym is open 24 hours but is small with limited equipment. It was busy by 6:30 a.m., so plan workouts accordingly. Lighting around our room was poor at night; there was no outdoor lighting by our door or balcony, forcing us to use phone flashlights. Heavy rain during our stay caused leaks and drips in multiple areas, including our room. For three days, the towel hut ran out of towels with no clear restock timeline. The Italian a la carte food was disappointing and service poor; we left before dessert. We would not return to this resort and are unlikely to try other Ocean brands.
