Amazing experience - best luxury value in the DR

Finishing up a week stay at Paradisus Grand Cana and what an incredible experience. We cant say enough about how great this resort is. Firstly the aethetic is so clean, classy and modern. Christmas decorations were a nice touch. Check in was easy and our room was ready immediately. We had the master swim up. Room was huge and everything was in great shape. The patio/pool area is private and beautifully appointed (jacuzzi, couch, table, day bed, loungers) and landscaped. We felt that the family concierge package was absolutely worth it for the premium alcohol and minibar, spa water ritual access, private concierge and private beach area. We had no trouble finding seating at the beach at any time of day. The loungers and palapas at the beach were top notch and better quality than all the other neighbouring resorts. Seaweed was minimal and cleaned up in the mornings. Entertainment at the resort was surprisingly good, especially the live bands (the rock show in particular - the female vocalist was incredible). We're not usually resort entertainment people and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the entertainment. Resort patrons have free access to Fun Republic - the miniputt course was great! Food was very good to excellent. We did not have a bad meal. We ate at all the all la cartes except for Lemon Fish. Steakhouse was great (especially the ribeye and the creme brulee). Mangu was great for lunch and dinner. The standout for the group was Agua Marina, the beach restaurant. Best steak and salmon all week (although the resort would benefit from some better steak knives) Teppenyaki at Tori was decent - a la carte was better. Surprisingly good burger and fries at the water park. The buffet at this resort is very good, especially for breakfast. Frankly we dont understand some of the negative reviews. The selection was very good, food was fresh, sure a few items could have been hotter but this was the best buffet we've been to at a resort in the DR. We found the desserts were particularly strong here (donuts, chocolate/cheese cake, milkshakes). We made use of the spa; amazing service/massages and very reasonable price with the promotion that they had. Bottom line; this resort should be on everyone's list. Our group has been to other resorts in the DR, at higher price points. PGC is hands down the best value. Shout out to Jose, Fernando at the spa, Yvan at the beach. Service can sometimes be a bit inconsistent, especially with a bit of a language barrier, but it was overall very good. Most of the staff were very friendly. The highlight of the week for us was Onil, the concierge. Onil has a wonderful personality, and was always available and quick to answer any question we had. He took care of all meal and spa reservations, and it really made the experience knowing that he was in the background making sure we had the best experience. You're in for a great experience if you get Onil as your concierge. Cant wait to come back!

Falls short from a 5 star resort

We wanted a reservation in Salt. They said there was an alternative at Aqua Marina with the same menu, when we got there it was not the same menu. Half the personnel, especially at the buffet were very unkind and making faces when we asked for something. They sometimes never arrived with the stuff we asked for. The phone did not work in my room, I told them about it and they never went to fix it. I was going here for my Honey Moon, I wanted to do a romantic dinner at the beach (they told me it was an option) then, same day some hours earlier they told me it was not possible after they told me it was. We asked them to clean our room 2-3 times. They only made the bed and thats its. Did not clean the sand in the room. I had to ask my concierge to send someone. The people cleaning the rooms were also making faces. I had a late check out, however, my bracelet stopped working and had to wait about 30 mins to deal with it, missing lunch before we left. For a 5 star hotel, this place falls short from it.

    Family Swim Out Concierge…Wow!!!

Amazing room! Walk out to a beautiful pool with lots of places to lounge. Could not ask for more! Gustavo was amazing too as our concierge. He checked on us several times a day and made us feel like we were very special.

Family Concierge Saves the Stay, but Sales Tactics & Service Issues Let It Down

We stayed at Paradisus Grand Cana – All Suites as a family and booked a Family Concierge swim-up room, which was without a doubt one of the best parts of our stay. The swim-up pool was amazing and ideal for families, allowing us to relax while the kids enjoyed constant access to the water. The resort caters well to all ages. The kids’ splash park was perfect for our little one, and there is genuinely something for everyone, from toddlers to adults. A big family highlight was the Meliá Community Fun Zone, called Fun Republic. Everything is included, which means you can simply turn up and enjoy it — rides, music, desserts, food and snacks, crazy golf, limited fairground-style rides, and a soft play area. It’s a great addition for families and gave us some fun evening options with the kids. Getting around the resort is easy, with golf carts available to take you to the beach and the aqua park if you don’t feel like walking, which is very helpful when travelling with children. However, room cleanliness wasn’t at the level expected for a resort of this price point. Housekeeping felt inconsistent and could definitely be improved. The standout of our stay was our Family Concierge member, Kenia. She was phenomenal — attentive, caring, and always available. Her communication was excellent and nothing ever felt like a problem. She handled all of our à la carte restaurant reservations, which made a huge difference. Thanks to Kenia, the concierge upgrade was absolutely worth the extra cost, and without her the stay would have been far more stressful. Dining was another weak point. While the food quality was good, every à la carte restaurant suffered from slow service. Even though the resort appeared to be around 70% capacity, service felt as though staff were working at 99% capacity, leading to long waits and a rushed experience — particularly challenging when dining with children. The biggest let-down of the entire holiday was the membership meeting on our second-to-last day. The sales approach was extremely pushy and uncomfortable. Despite repeated hesitation, the sales team continued to pressure us, and before we knew it we had signed up for a Meliá membership we didn’t need. After properly reading the terms and conditions, it honestly sounded terrible and left a very sour taste at the end of what should have been a relaxing family holiday. This experience felt completely out of place in a supposed luxury resort. In summary, Paradisus Grand Cana has fantastic family facilities and huge potential, but it is let down by inconsistent cleanliness, slow dining service, and overly aggressive sales tactics. The Family Concierge experience — especially with someone like Kenia — truly makes or breaks the stay, and we would not recommend visiting without it.

Terrible stay. Not coming back not recommending.

This resort has lack of management. No ine can speak or understand proper English including the managers. They booked us a restaurant for a group of 5 families elderlies and kids we go there and after waiting long time we realize it wasn't even booked. No compensation offered for the mistake they made. Day after our 4 year old foot gets cut while she's playing in the pool. The medical center doesn't have any professional first aid. The cut was so deep and didn't stop bleeding. It was hard to belive that we didn't even get a proper apology. The pool is so small and full of tile cracks.
