    Terrible Service and Value

This was my 3rd time at this Paradisus location (first two were at The Reserve - now called Zel, and this time at Grand Cana, previously called the Grand Reserve). We paid a large premium for a swim-up room. The Good - room was good, the patio was great with access to a long common pool great for swimming lengths. The common areas were very clean, grounds were beautiful and well kept. The Bad - the resort is not a well-run operation. I noticed a significant deterioration in service, food quality from the last 2 times. The App to order room service did not work, the front desk knew about this and suggested I call from the room. The room phone did not work - I complained 3 times about it to the front desk concierges - took 4 days to fix it. The resort ran out of beach towels daily. Since the room was a swim-up you would think they would provide beach towels. Nope - just the first day - never got any more even though requested multiple times. Buffet was just Ok, not a premium level. Common to see lack of replenishment of food items even though never that busy. Individual restaurants all featured additional costs for "premium" menu items - not cool when you are paying $1500 USD per day for 3 people in 1 room to stay there for the "all-inclusive package". Beach service was intermittent, ran out of many drinks - no Aperol Coke Zero etc. The beach lounges area was very dirty by the end of the day - lack of cleaning of used cups,, food items etc. One evening a group of young kids playing soccer inside the main lounge areas outside the buffet. I got hot with a ball. No staff in sight in the evening to stop this. Complaints to staff not addressed - lots pf passing the buck . Not worth the money. And some unintentional comedy - i got a customer service email after i checked out from addressed from the "Manager" of the hotel. I looked her up on LinkedIn. She left the company in May. Does the Melia head office in Spain really know whats going on here?

    Terrible service. Not 5 stars.

I do not recommend. After staying in multiple 5 star resorts this is definitely not one. Service was terrible. By far the only ppl that saved this resort was Anthony at Mangu for LUNCH and the staff at the pool bar. Besides these mentioned, all other staff members were unkind and inattentive. It was like we were bothering them with simply requests like “can I get a juice, or a bottle water, a beer possibly” We couldn’t get reservations for any of the restaurants besides one evening at Mangu, which was a disaster. Staff simply ignored our table and food came after 2 hours, mind you our 11 month old at that point was cranky and hungry. I had to ask for our food for it to finally come at 9:30pm. Our reservation was at 7:30pm - it was empty so no reason for the delay or simply ignoring our table. My margarita came with no ICE and WARM, my kids orange juice never arrived. We were always tipping and being nice. This was the first time that we complained because it was unacceptable. This is just ONE example of how terrible service was at this resort. One positive note - room was nice! I had a late check out at 4pm, however, our bracelet stopped working at 12pm, and I had to wait about 30 mins to deal with it, missing lunch with my 3 kids before we left. For a 5 star hotel, this place falls short from it. Also the complete lack of information is unfortunate. We had “family concierge” our concierge was not very attentive or helpful. We were never introduced to this person until late on the 2nd day of our arrival because I actually had to go look for him. Just overall very unfortunate! Won’t be coming back.

Beautiful property very attractive if you don't mind loud music late at night

Lots of options for kids, beautiful pool and beach, friendly staff, food reasonable, rooms excellent, service uneven, nearly impossible to secure reservations at specialty restaurants, loud music from hotel lobby every night till after 10 or after 11 makes it impossible to retire before the music stops, it pervades every room in the resort

    Save your money

The concierge service was not worth it. A la carte restaurants were poor at best, orders were always wrong and food was sub-par.
