  Wonderful staff and perfect for a family vacation.

  We stayed here for a week with grandparents, parents and a baby. We loved our spacious and well equipped rooms and the free breakfast buffet every morning. The free shuttle took us to nearby properties and shops and we also had a rental car. The pool Is huge and there was a cute play area for kids.

  Over priced hotel

  Positives: Nicely maintained hotel in a lovely part of the island. Rooms are small but well serviced by staff. Pool area never seemed super busy while we were here. Parking fees at $35 a day is lower than some hotels. Close to shops at Wailea and restaurants within walking distance. Nice staff. Outdoor grills with seating are great so you can cook your own meals and avoid the overpriced restaurants. Negatives: The photos of this hotel are misleading. For example, they show a real coffee maker in the rooms, but in reality, there isn’t one—not even a basic electric kettle. If you want tea, you have to boil water in a pan like it’s 1950. They provide one of those single-serve pod coffee makers with a packet of low-quality coffee that tastes terrible and barely gets warm. They do offer complimentary coffee starting at 5 a.m., which I found surprising given how poor the rest of the food service is. The free breakfast was awful—think cruise ship buffet leftovers. The eggs were flavorless and rubbery, likely poured from a carton. The sausages were strange and unappetizing. The bread crumbled apart, the bagels tasted like they came from Walmart, and the fruit was bland and mealy. What makes all of this more frustrating is the price: $500 per night. Like many Hawaii hotels—especially on Maui—this property is clearly overcharging, banking on tourists who are willing to pay inflated rates. We’ve stayed here before when the rate was around $200, which felt fair. This time, we used points, and thankfully so, because this is not a $500-a-night experience. The “included breakfast” felt more like something you’d get in a prison cafeteria.

  This Marriott is a winner!

  I was ready to find all kinds of things to complain about, since this is a Marriott property and how Hawaiian can a Marriott be?! But I was impressed. The desk personnel are always round and eager to dispense advice about the facility itself and the surrounding area of Wailea. The rooms are clean and spacious with many offering views of the West Maui mountains. True, the property is not ocean front, but there are ways to access the beach. Yes, you could walk there—20 minutes. You could drive to the Shops of Wailea—free parking for now. But the Residence has its own shuttle to take you to and from anywhere in Wailea. Unless you are going to drive upcountry for other areas, you really will not need a car. Taxis can take you to and from the airport. We plan next year to drop off our car and use the taxi. I almost forgot: we had extraordinary service from the hotel’s electrician who not only tried to fix our TV but managed to replace it that very evening. Yes, the price is still quite high even with included buffet breakfast and the toilets are possibly the lowest we’ve ever encountered anywhere. But the location, service, and cleanliness make this five circles.

  Fun for family

  The 2 queen suite with kitchen was very comfortable. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet in a great open space area. The grounds were extensive with plenty of grassy play area, BB court, putting green, pool area and fire pits. We made use of the grills and enjoyed the Friday night musical entertainment. This hotel also has a shuttle which was so handy.

  Perfect for a Family of Five

  As a family of five, this was the absolute best set up for us. The two queen sofa bed studios are very spacious and have a lovely balcony. The staff was very friendly and responsive to our needs. The rooms were freshly and well cleaned each day. It is an easy walk to the shops at Wailea, the beach, and right next door to a little area with three delicious restaurants. The breakfast buffet was a great way to start our day. They offer free activities for kids such as bracelet making and there are lawn games and basketball. The grill area is big enough for many people to prepare dinner.
