You get what you pay for…
Upon arrival, the hotel is nice visually. They take your bags and you are directed to check in. Check in: The lines are long, despite getting private transport. They moved extremely slow. I stood in the heat, after 14 hours of travel, with no sense of urgency from the staff. Upon complaint, there was no apology, just ignored you, checked you in and kept it moving. Recommendations: given we are all short staffed and doing more with less: Make sure you can offer a cool towel and welcoming drink, in the lobby upon arrival for every guest. Maybe more directions, showing which line you should be standing in, I stood in the wrong line for a while, before figuring out where I should be. Room: There is no tub. The shower has decent pressure and the water is hot. It is clean but there are clear signs of wear and items needing upgrades. It took me awhile to figure out, how to flush the toilet. I also never got any wash cloths . Maybe they don’t use them in DR. I asked for some and got more hand towels. Otherwise, the air conditioner worked, the bed was a little hard, (personal preference) I got used to it over the course of the trip. Quiet side Food: I found the food on the quiet side, better overall. It seemed hotter, fresher and of better overall quality. The steak house is the only restaurant, requiring reservations, and is also the only al carte restaurant. This was the best meal of the trip. It was overall, less crowded this side. I suppose this is a party resort. Overall food: It was basic at best. Salads will get you through. The Churros, breakfast meats, and fresh fruit at breakfast were tasty. I also enjoyed the jerked chicken, by the beach and various chicken/ lunch meats items at the buffet. The fruit was also, also good. Things I wished were there: Some of the “para” authentic Dominican foods ( could have been a labeling issue) and the fresh juice at breakfast was lacking ( thick consistency wise). Pools: There were many, some quiet, some more lively with various themed music. By noon, I found the surface to have a film of sunscreen and various other things. I am sure this is hard to control though. Entertainment: I can’t say I did much on the resort. I spent some time off the resort, for various activities. The shows I did see were fine. Overall: If you want to party and are going to be tipsy most of the time, on your choice of “thing”, you will likely live it here. Rules are flexible, and as long as you happy they are also. I prefer the Riu Palace, I am brand loyal. 😊

More than expected
Our vacations at the Riu Republica was over our expectations. Our room was clean every day and everything work properly. Food at the buffet were great and various. Restaurant a la carte can be better, it was my only deception. Pool are great and clean and people who work there are helpful and courteous. I recommend this hotel at all and I wil return for sure !

MANGU Stake Hose, @ Riu Republica
They have a restaurant on the hotel, a Stake House name MANGU. 1st tthey only open @ 18:00 for make reservations. Not for dinner, for make reservations. The maitre was yelling on the costumers I am the boss! So, don’t take long for a turist get a physical fight. Even like that I was able to make a reservation for the NEXT day, for myself, my wife and my son. BIG MISTAKE! On the next day, the same “boss” offended my wife, and was my turn to have a physical fight inside that restaurant!!!

Best stay
I live in London and me and my husband were at RIU during our holiday in July. The place was really beautiful and the food was extremely excellent. The staff was very attentive and very helpful and gave us a fabulous service. I have no hesitation in recommending RIU Sri Lanka to all my friends and family in UK and Sri Lanka and abroad. I enjoyed every moment I was there.
