This is the second time we have gone to Sunset Plaza! We've done the all inclusive both times, and would 10/10 recommend. Staff are all friendly and do not hesitate to go out of their way to help and offer services. You can tell they enjoy working for this resort, and it was awesome to see all our favorite employees/servers still here after two years since our last visit. Food is excellent, several restaurants so you never get tired of the food. Notable names I would like to call out for absolutely EXCELLENT service: - Victorina (matador restaurant): excellent service, very kind, prompt, knowledgeable, very professional! - Miguel (concierge): goes above and beyond. Always has a smile, went out of his way to help us and make us comfortable, remembers to follow up every morning to ensure we are still comfortable. Miguel is the one of the big reasons we wanted to come back a second time! - Nicholas (concierge): very kind, answered all our questions, very welcoming. We were less "needy" since this was our second time here, but for the few questions we had to ask, Nicholas was very attentive and excellent. - George (poolside service): prompt, knows us by name after only being here for a day, knows our drinks, funny, goes above and beyond every time he serves us. - Gabriel (poolside service): prompt, knows us by name after only being here for a day, knows our drinks, funny, goes above and beyond every time he serves us. - Raoul (leads water aerobics and other activities): very inclusive, energetic, funny, welcoming and inviting, excellent leader. - Enrique (matador and Luciano restaurants): went above and beyond for us and our daughter. Was our 11-month old's favorite! Attentive, kind, was always grateful to have him serve us. Very personable, and gave our daughter lots of attention and made her smile. He has a heart for hospitality!

May 31, 2025Currently having major regrets about Sunset Plaza Beach Resort. Buyer Beware!!
I arrived today at Sunset Plaza Beach Resort and I’m having major regrets. So far this has been one of the worst hotel/resort experiences that I’ve ever had. I’m one that takes the time to read reviews to get a better understanding of other guest experiences and that has worked for me in the past. Not so much here. First let me say that the workers have been friendly and a pleasure to deal with; however, the hotel isn’t a place that I would consider staying at again and I would discourage those who are more discerning from choosing this resort. One of my biggest issues is that ALL of the rooms are adjoining, meaning there’s an inside door connecting two guest rooms. The guests currently next door have two children and even without their added boisterousness, it literally sounds like the entire family is in the room with us. There’s so much noise, movement of furniture and running that it will make it impossible to have a relaxing vacation. Don’t get me wrong, children and families should enjoy their vacation but conversely I should be able to enjoy mine. Next the general condition of the room is awful. There is a ceiling fan in the room, however the decorative glass globe that covers the light bulb is missing so it’s just an exposed light bulb and wiring showing and makes the room feel like it’s in a run down, uncared for motel. Also, we’re unable to run the shower and flush the toilet at the same time. If the shower is running and the toilet is flushed, whatever is in the toilet will remain in the toilet until the shower is stopped. I’m so disappointed with this experience that I even inquired about the penalty for cutting our stay short. I did speak with a manager to switch rooms and while there is a newer tower, those rooms are still connected and the hotel wanted to charge us more money to switch. The manager (Efrain) has asked us to be patient and give him until tomorrow to see if they can find us another room. I’m here to celebrate my birthday and get a much needed break from the stress of work and home but we’re not off to a good start. I’d like to be able to say more good things about this resort but I definitely don’t want anyone to have the experience that I’m having. If you’re considering staying here my advice is to really think about what you’re looking for in a resort. If poorly maintained rooms and noisy guests are something that you enjoy then I encourage you to book a room immediately. If you’re looking for a more elevated and relaxing experience, I recommend that you take your business elsewhere.

Nice resort, very friendly. Great location. However the noisy air conditioning fans, spoiled our experience while sitting on the deck. We had to close our patio doors for some quite time in our suite.

Great stay
We went to Sunset plaza end of April. It’s a lovely place to stay. All the rooms are oceanfront and we had a beautiful balcony with loungers to have breakfast and hear and see the ocean. The room was large and clean. Housekeeping was excellent. Room service was excellent and prompt. It’s a small resort but has everything you need. The food was good in all the restaurants. Service was great. The hotel is in the middle of town and a short cab ride to the Malecon. Perfect location and great stay. I’d go back again.

If you want a beautiful ocean side resort with excellent service, this is it!
We feel the service and friendliness of the staff is the greatest asset of this resort, though we love the views, the facilities, and much of the food we've enjoyed. There are several areas around the resort to use... the adult pool is lovely, the main pool is beautifully kept, the gym is adequate size, the food choices are in several places, and the bar is quiet and calming in the evening.
