A cheap experience that's only worth it if you're not paying a premium

We paid $675/night and our experience was not worth the price at all. We booked a king room but were told no kings were available when we checked in. They told us to come down the next day to see if we could move rooms. I would have probably paid to upgrade our room at that point (didn't know how bad it was going to be) but that wasn't even offered to me. My husband and I shared a full-size bed for the 4 nights we were there. We could also hear sound from the nightclubs down the beach every single night. The air conditioner drowned them out, but that meant we had to sleep with a noisy air conditioner running all night. We were woken up multiple times on our third night by fire alarms going off, twice at 8:30 AM (not a huge deal) and twice at 1:45 AM (more of a huge deal). Our friends who were staying in the other tower with their babies dealt with the same thing throughout the night on their fourth night. The alarms were also going off all morning -- we could hear them from the beach. Honestly, I've never heard so many fire alarms going off at a hotel. My friend talked me out of complaining about it but we learned later that everyone else in our party paid under $400/night for their rooms (some as low as $200/night) so they didn't think it was a big deal because of how cheap the resort was. For us, this was not an cheap stay. The food is fine, but nothing we had -- including the restaurants where you have to reserve a table -- was good. Honestly the best food I had at the resort was a hot dog, which is crazy when you're paying what we paid to stay there. Service was friendly but not great. A server spilled wine on my husband at the Japanese restaurant and did nothing to help clean it up. I got a tuna steak at the Seafood restaurant that was gray. The only saving grace of this place was the beach. The location is great, the ocean is calm and wonderful. But there are LOTS of hotels in the area where you can get a better deal for your $$. I would never stay here or another Barcelo property again. When I found out how little my friends were paying, I honestly felt taken advantage of. We could have taken 2 vacations for what we paid for this one and they probably would have both been better experiences. This place isn't great and I would avoid it if I were you, unless you're getting a real bargain -- $300/night is probably the right price-point for the location + food.

    Royal Restaurant was the best!

We enjoyed the Royal restaurant while we were here. Melvin, Lissette, Maria, Carolina, Karina, and Jamie were the best! They all were super helpful and made our visit so enjoyable. Everyone went above and beyond and our experience was great!

    Dining experience

We ate at Arubian Seafood for our first night of our Honeymoon and were waited on by Maria Hazel! She was amazing and such a delight. Thank you for making our first night in Aruba magical! The food was delicious and the customer service was superb!!!! Highly recommended.

    memorable amazing!

My wife and I had the most amazing experience at Barcelo Aruba. Our time there was filled with joy and felt like home, the hospitality given by staff is outstanding. Belinda, Marolyn, Ivette were very nice to us, gave us everything we needed for our stay. Angela at the bar is the best of the best, she's humble, sweet, kind and so much caring. The photographer took a memorable picture of us at the Italian restaurant that would help us never forget Aruba.

A cruise ship vacation on land

Just like cruises you have to claim your chairs by the pool starting at 5:00 am if you want to be close to the pool stairs! By 8am there are no chairs available, late in afternoon chairs are available but no towels were available on several afternoons.
