    Disappointing

    Except for the beach, this resort fails all expectations of a 5 star resort. The facilities are worn out. One of three passenger elevators was out of service for weeks. Each of us was stuck in one of the others at some point during our stay. The bedrooms on the Premium Levels are a basic design from the 1980s with minimal seating area in the room, tiny balconies and generally just look tired.

    Barcelo Ixtapa

    Enjoyable stay but some areas need improvement. The hotel and rooms are very clean although a little dated. The outdoor area is nice and the vista is spectacular. The food is OK but very average and geared toward the mainly Mexican guests. Not enough shade on the beach. Oceanfront rooms have a beautiful view.

    Older and disabled a challenge

    The staff were great. There wasn’t enough shade and there is a shortage of loungers. The rooms were very clean and beds comfortable. My only complaint - the food was not the greatest. Could only go to two specialty restaurants- so went to Italian twice (which was very good). The Japanese restaurant wasn’t open for the entire week - very disappointing. Bracelet they use for a door key was too tight after a couple of days. Having to line up 20 deep to get a reservation for a restaurant at 9;00 am on the day you want to go is horrible and a waste of my time to relax. Disappointed ice-cream was only available twice - but it was absolutely delicious! Better loungers for the old folks and disabled would be wonderful - they are very hard to get out of and ended up sitting in chairs - really missed laying down in the shade with a book. Quite noisy at times! Nope I won’t be returning.

    Disappointed

    Very disappointed in the food. Most of the cooked food was lukewarm at best and very little fresh fruit was available. Surprisingly ice cream is not readily available as a dessert option. Very difficult to get a lounger at the pool.

    Too expensive for what is offered at this resort

    We were very disappointed in this resort. The rooms were clean, but had to ask for face cloths every day, and got them twice. It is an older resort and needs major upgrade. The selection of food was not good at the buffets, except for breakfast. It was cold or luke warm on rhe trays and most of it was tasteless. We're there for 10 days and was only allowed 3 A la carts. The entertainment was all in Spanish. Did not incorporate any English anytime so we could understand what was being said. The pools were great and the services at the pool bars were fantastic, no complaints there. This is not a 4.5 rated resort.
