    Absolutely perfect family vacation

This resort is breathtaking and I told myself that every morning when I stepped out. Even at full capacity, you did not have the impression of a crowd. Service was fantastic everywhere, food was great (LOTS of restaurants, beach buffets to choose from and LOTS of food choices at each-a la carte we did 4 and they were all great) The beach was for me the highlight, it was beautiful and you can snorkel right on location. We will 100% return to this resort and cannot wait to do so! (family of 4 with 14-13 year old kids)

    Barcelo experience

We stayed in Tropical standard room non-prefered, at the beginning of April. We were on ground floor, near waterpark, the room was nice and had everything what is needed, even robes with slippers. Not moldy or musty. Just fine. My husband has a mold allergy and he was fine (of cuz we keep a/c 24 h at 20 degrees). Beds were comfortable. Two types of waterpark, suitable for 4 year old, and some playgrounds with sand. Some areas need extra cleaning, we didn't use it because I didn't feel comfortable. So better to avoid the pools, playgrounds and waterpark closer to end of the day. It's no problem to use a wagon on the beach as the real sand is only near the water. We didn't like Tropical/Colonial buffet, we loved Caribe buffet. So many vegetarian options. Coffee was very good. There is a machine for decaf as well. Best ice cream is at Caribe buffet. Reception and service overall was great. Resort's layout is very convenient. Hydrotherapy was excellent. Kids club was not particularly inviting. I have it to compare to other resorts, where I could see kids club at the aquapark, at the beach, tennis court, even kids foam party, maybe I'm spoiled. The ocean is shallow, kid friendly, even if there are some waves. Lots of snorkeling opportunities, lots of fish and there are turtles. Mini golf was a hit. My son enjoyed riding a red double decker bus. Overall, beautiful resort with amazing beach and ocean, and budget friendly for all you get. Thanks to all the workers for keeping the property clean and beautiful. Considering how large the property is and the amount of tourists, they are doing amazing job.

Good snorkling possibility from the beach and cenotes near by walking distance. Lots of different activities on site some with fees.

Beautiful location, not good value for money

First time in an all-inclusive and I know why I have avoided them. The location is just stunning and service is good/ friendly But how can you enjoy the beach when you can't even find a sun bed because 1) there are not enough of them 2) Tourists set their alarms at 6am to put 'their towels' down then you never see them & hotel just ignores it! Watch the food, my daughter got food poisoning from one of the Japanese restaurants. And if you are going to advertise a contact email ... make sure it works and it is responded to.

Excellent resort for a coupe or a family in Mexico

This is an excellent resort. We are a couple of 55 and 58, traveling by ourselves this time. There were lots of families around but there is so much room, you can really go wherever you want if this bothers you. Stay at the adults only if it's a concern. It's very big and includes a total of 6 resorts. We had access to 4 of them and stayed at the Barcelo Maya Tropical. It did not feel too big though, and I'm not even a big fan of walking. There are two buses that run all day and take you to each resort including the one where the shopping area is (worth a look). Here's some more breakdown of the place.. Rooms: Standard, nice, clean, beds were great. Staff: Every single one we encountered was friendly and wanted to help. Many were quite funny, welcoming and had a great personality. Tip these people, they are really trying hard. Buffet Food: The buffet had lots of choice and the food was very good. A la Cartes: We did the Steakhouse (7.5/10, steak was just ok), the Mexican and Italian places (9.5/10) and the Spanish one (10/10, steak was unbelievable). The staff service is excellent, the food was high quality and the atmosphere/facilities/ambience was really nice. We had 4 solid meals and wished we could have done a different one every night, but it was 4 this time. Beach: Not huge on the beach, but we walked it everyday and it was really beautiful, rocky parts, smooth parts, whatever you want. Seaweed was not an issue while we were there. Drinks: We are not big boozers, but had a few everyday. They seemed to have lots of premium brands of liquor and they made some good mixed drinks. Crowd: Lots of families as mentioned, no spring breakers but lots of partying, just kinda under control. If you want to get away from the loud and obnoxious variety who seem to take over everywhere they go, there was lots of space to move around and escape. Pool: Pool was so clean and of a refreshing temperature. Shows: We only went to one at the big theater and it was pretty well done, elaborate Vegas style with costumes and singing, some talent there for sure. Overall, we just loved this place, but that's been our experience in Mexico at a few places now. The only negative I can think of is the chair situation. My wife is out there at 7, getting us some chairs, and there are lots. But there's probably not enough. Barcelo, spend some bucks and get the proper amount of chairs so people don't have to drag them around everywhere and there's enough for all guests. I wanted to write this review (a little delayed I guess) to let fellow travelers know that this place is really good and they are doing it right. Everyone has their own experience I guess, but I would not tend to believe any reviews that indicate this place is a disaster, etc. People can nit-pick maybe, and have unrealistic expectations for 2,000CAD, but we loved it. Thank you to all staff.
