Fun party vibes, mostly terrible service
I am a frequent traveler to Mexico and, since 2021, have stayed at Live Aqua, Excellence Riviera Maya, Excellence Playa Mujeres, Atelier, Secrets Moxche, and now … Breathless Riviera Cancun. I’ll start with the very limited positives. We were a group of 11 celebrating a bachelorette and the party vibe was just what the bride wanted. We had cabanas both days at the party pool and all enjoyed ourselves. But that is really where the positives end. First off, the bride tried contacting the concierge team more than a month before our arrival to work out cabana and dinner reservations. Andrea answered her at first with a list of pricing, but then never responded again despite the bride following up. I decided to take over to help out and also emailed Andrea- she did not bother to respond until the night before we arrived. That night she stated in an email that the bride would receive a bachelorette banner on her door if I provided her reservation info - but this never appeared during our stay. In the interim, after being on hold on the phone for 3 hours with Hilton two days before we left, I was finally patched through to Carlos who was able to assist me. We selected a cabana in the “Fizz” area for both Friday and Saturday at a price of $450 per day. I was very clear that there were 11 of us and was never told there would be an issue with us renting one cabana. In fact, i specifically selected cabanas in that area because there were additional couches where I was told our group could sit and spread out. When I arrived at the resort in person and checked in, our reservation for the cabanas was again confirmed and my card was charged $1450 - $900 for the two days of cabanas and $550 for a “premium hibachi” experience, which we were essentially forced to purchase because it was the only way we could reserve a table and be guaranteed to sit together. I was also told that if we wanted a reservation the other nights, we would be required to pay $60 pp per night towards “premium alcohol”. I refused because we should not have to pay an extra $660 per meal simply to be able to sit together at an all inclusive that already includes alcoholic beverages. When i declined, they offered us a “discount” if we agreed to make two reservations at $30 pp per night. I again declined because I was growing irritated with their efforts to upsell everything. I have never been to a resort where I’ve paid for anything besides tips and spa services upon arrival and this was frankly ridiculous. On our first night, I emailed Carlos to change our hibachi reservation to a different night to accommodate the bride’s wish to see the fire show Saturday. He responded that it was no problem but then casually informed us (at 7:45 pm as he was leaving for the night) that our cabana for the next had been double booked and we would have to see what could be done in the morning (even though he would not be at work until noon the next day). I was extremely frustrated as my card had already been charged in full for both days — and also because, had I not emailed Carlos about a separate issue, I don’t think he would have informed me until we showed up at the cabanas the next day with no place to sit. The next morning was a dramatic affair with the first two hours of the bride’s morning spent arguing about where we could be situated at the party pool. It was only then that I was told for the first time by Andrea that a single cabana is for a maximum of 6 guests, and that 5 of us would not have been permitted to sit in that area. I asked why they had allowed me to book and charged my card knowing the size of the party, and did not receive any explanation. Andrea did make things right by giving us a second cabana for free on the first day, but the bride’s morning was ruined. The second day we were forced to spend an additional $350 - on top of the $900 already charged - for a second cabana as well to fit the group. The rooms smelled strongly of mold. Our room was also located directly above the outdoor sports bar and was INCREDIBLY LOUD until midnight or later every night. One night, people were yelling outside until 2 am. There is no sound proofing and you will hear every conversation outside as if it is happening in your room. There were barely any outlets in the room and over half did not work. The shower never got fully hot. There was also a leaking air conditioner outside our door which left puddles. Our cabana servers were excellent but service everywhere else on the resort is extremely lacking, as they are wildly understaffed. Our lunch at Bites the first day took hours because there was only one single server rushing to take care of everyone. Our drinks sat so long at the bar that they arrived completely melted and had to be remade. Each bar had only a single bartender making drinks and it could be upwards of 15 minutes before you were able to order at the sports bar or bar by the party pool. In addition, the drinks were the worst of any resort I’ve been to and had a strong chemical taste. I woke up with a horrible headache each morning and this has never happened at another resort. The breakfast buffet had essentially no service and we had to track people down just for a glass of water. We enjoyed our premium hibachi dinner but I was shocked when the bride asked for an extra plate of sushi and was told that she was only permitted one roll. First - we are at an all inclusive and I have never before seen a limit on food ordering. Second, we had paid $550 for a premium experience. Third, how are you going to refuse a bride (in a literal veil) any request when she has brought 10 other people to your resort and paid a ton of money for extras?! This really pushed me over the edge! On our final day, after being told repeatedly that a dinner reservation would cost $660, we were suddenly able to reserve a table at the Italian restaurant for $180 total (or the cost of one bottle of wine). When we arrived for that dinner, we were still split into two separate tables. And the food was horrible. Finally, a note on the party pool - the bottom was made of incredibly sharp rock that hurt to stand on. We had to place towels in the pool to avoid cutting our feet. One girl in our group slipped coming up the stairs and ending up cutting both of her legs open on the jagged bottom of the pool. She was forced to sign a waiver to receive any first aid. The pools also never had any towels available past 10 am. I do want to shout out the few people who made our trip great: Roger at Bites (an angel), Freida at the champagne bar (so sweet and helpful), and our hibachi chef Erik. Also shout out to the folks at the Mexican restaurant who were able to accommodate our large party without a reservation with only an hour’s wait. In short, our bride got the party she wanted and was happy. But our group agrees we would never return and would not recommend this resort to anyone who is accustomed to five star service.

Great pool service at Xhale Club.
Edwin, Victor, and Vincente took great care of our family at the pool. Edwin made sure our drinks were full and Victor and Vincente made sure we always had a great spot poolside

Amazing girls trip
We went for a friend’s 30th birthday and had such a great time. This is a great resort for celebrating something special as the staff goes above and beyond to make you feel special. The food was really good. Special s/o to the Asian restaurant, hibicahi, Italian, and the bread rolls at the steakhouse! Take advantage of all of the activites and performances they have each day! The shows were very fun to watch

Great place, evening dinner issues need resolving
Overall: Great experience, lovely hotel and atmosphere however the evening meal situation really lets it down. We had the Xhale club pass which was worth the additional charge, especially the Xhale section of the pool. The team by the pool (Edwin, Roger, Vincente and Victor) were exceptional friendly, helpful and made the experience great. The entertainment team (Sofia, Erik, Mani, Angel, Ivan and Jorge) were all incredibly friendly, helpful and engaging without being too 'pushy'. The range of activities provided was also excellent. The team in the Xhale club lounge (America, Janneth) were super helpful and friendly making the check in and out process very easy and responding quickly to any issues we had. Lidia at the bar in the lounge was also brilliant. The evening meal situation is where it started to fall apart. All the restaurants are al a carte with no evening buffet option. These averaged waiting times of 45 minutes every evening despite there regularly being empty tables available. Once seated the service was then also slow and sporadic resulting in the total time for 2 people from going to the restaurant, getting a starter and main would take on average 2 hours. This was a regular frustration brought up in conversations throughout our holiday. The beach is well kept and pretty but not really a useable beach. If you are a sea swimming person you'd be disappointed, you can also only really walk about 5 mins in either direction along the beach. This isn't a deal breaker just something worth mentioning.

Fun. Classy. Perfect party place. Yet chilled if you want it to be.
Amazing experience. Valeria from the club experience side was amazing. Wilberth at the pool bar. Amazing too. And Samuel. Omar from entertainment also. Too many people to list. They were all great Fernando from the beach side. Legendary. I have been many times and would return.
