Cockroaches, pipes bursting, run down rooms, ignored by the hotel

We booked a Privilege Premium Deluxe room for 7 nights. The only positive thing I can say is that the food at BLoved was amazing; so there’s that. From the start, things went downhill. We arrived early on check-in day, so it was understandable that our room wasn’t ready when we showed up at 1 p.m. (check-in is at 3 p.m.). However, when we returned at 3, our room still wasn’t ready; we waited an extra hour in the lobby with our 1 year old before finally getting our keys. When we walked in, we were shocked. The room looked nothing like the photos online, it was an old, worn-down version of what was advertised. The bathroom was moldy, the sink stopper was missing, the AC unit was extremely loud, the mirror was deteriorating, and the hairdryer didn’t work properly. The security chain on the door was so long that our child could easily open the door and still slip out, or anyone could reach in and unlatch it from the outside. It took four separate requests to finally get a crib delivered, and even that was a hassle because the phone line was so bad I could barely hear the operator. I raised all of these concerns immediately at the front desk and was assured we were in the “Privilege Premium Deluxe” room we paid for, even though it clearly didn’t match the listed features. I explained that our child was born premature and mold in the bathroom was completely unacceptable. They promised to “make it right,” but even after a so-called deep cleaning, the mold remained because the grout was missing. The next morning, we found a large cockroach in the bathroom, probably due to the open sink drain, and again, all they offered was another cleaning. No room change, because they claimed the hotel was fully booked. So, for six nights, we stayed in a room with mold and pests, worrying about bringing roaches home in our luggage. On the sixth night, things got worse: a pipe burst two floors above us with what looked like gray water, flooding our bathroom and leaking through the light fixtures, posing obvious fire, electrical and health hazards. At first, they offered just another cleaning. When we returned later that day from an excursion, we found it hadn’t been touched. Only after I went back to the front desk did they admit they’d decided to move us, but never bothered to tell us. At this point we called a supervisor since we and a few other couples in that building were having the same issues and they were ignoring us all. Exhausted, we packed up our things and moved ourselves. Ironically, the “downgraded” room they gave us for the final night was far better, newly remodeled, clean, mold-free, and actually matched the photos. It was smaller, lacked bathrobes and slippers, but at least it didn’t have safety hazards. The fact that this “downgrade” was vastly better shows they knowingly kept us in an inferior room for most of our stay despite us paying for the upgrade, while better rooms were clearly available. On our last morning, I asked the front desk why we’d spent six nights in an unacceptable room while lower-tier rooms next door were obviously better. They gave me nothing but excuses. The only “compensation” offered was a $1,000 credit toward a future stay if we sat through a 90-minute timeshare pitch, which is something any guest can get anyway. So basically, nothing. As a final insult, I asked for a late checkout as a small courtesy. Their own website advertises checkout at 3 p.m., but they gave us only until 2 p.m., and only after I requested a supervisor reminded them of the ordeal they’d put us through. They’ve now stopped responding altogether and I’ve had to involve my travel agency to try to get this resolved. Bottom line: The food at BLoved is excellent but if you expect to get the room you paid for, basic cleanliness, or decent customer service, look elsewhere.

From the first bite to the last lingering flavor, this steak was nothing short of extraordinary. Perfectly seared with a caramelized crust that crackled gently under the knife, it gave way to a tender, buttery interior that melted on the tongue like velvet. Each bite was a masterclass in balance—rich, juicy, and seasoned with such precision that every element enhanced the natural flavor of the beef rather than masking it. Cooked to a flawless medium-rare, the center was warm and rosy, with just the right hint of resistance as you sliced through. It was clear that this wasn’t just any steak—it was a carefully aged, expertly handled cut from Deanna the chef who understands and respects the craft. You could taste the quality in every morsel.

Great Value Resort Despite Beach Limitations

We had a great experience at this resort! We upgraded to the Privilege package, and I would highly recommend it—if only for the BLoved restaurant alone. The food there is consistently excellent, and the rooftop view is absolutely stunning. We also dined at the Mexican à la carte restaurant, which was another standout. The food was delicious and we even enjoyed a live mariachi band during dinner—such a great touch! There was a slight smell around the Yucatán side and the beach bar, likely due to the seaweed, but that's something outside the hotel's control. That said, due to the seaweed season, the beach was unfortunately completely unusable during our stay. The beach itself is decent when accessible, but definitely on the rockier side—bring water shoes if you plan to swim. The resort is compact and walkable, which made getting around easy. We loved spending time at the sports bar and the disco in the evenings. The only downside is the music at the disco can get a bit repetitive. One hidden gem: there’s a bar on the second level beside the Mexican and Italian restaurants called T-Bar. It’s easy to miss, but the drinks there were fantastic! Nighttime entertainment and staff were great overall. The beach party, in particular, was a big hit—so much fun and well-organized. We also at at the buffet on the Riviera side a few times and were impressed with the variety and quality of the selection. Dont miss the crepe stand on the Yutacan side they make an amazing Affagato and was a perfect pick me up mid day. Overall, I’d definitely recommend this resort. It’s great value for the price, and being located in a private gated community made walking around feel extra safe and relaxed.

    Go somewhere else

The hotel room was extremely hot and they would not fix it. We would literally have sweat dripping off of us at night and we were told that the temperature was within normal limits, however he check the temp with his hand over the vent. The grounds were kept neat and clean. The beach was not what you would picture, very rocky and not enjoyable. However, the pools were great.
