  Not a bad place to stay - middle of the road review

  This resort was okay. A solid 4-5/10. They seem to have a lot of back end logistics to work out, as I know it was recently purchased by Hyatt from Hilton. Food was wonderful (options weren't as good as I'd seen at others). Room was okay - as I would have expected. After returning home I realized there was some lingering smell in the room - my backpack still smells like it -- I would describe it as a very mild mildew-ish smell, I think? Having stayed at other beach resorts and not noticing this is probably the only reason I picked up on it at all. Didn't impact my stay one bit. Would I stay here again? Depends on what my options are. If there was a Hyatt Ziva (like ones I've been to before), I'd stay there over here. Cost was about the same to me. And There were more food options, better service at restaurants overall and more in-room and mini-bar options. I was very surprised to see there wasn't a mini bar snack drawer, and I've seen more beverage options at other places. Did any of this impact my stay? Not one bit. Just things I noticed. To be honest, when I visit again, I'll get an airbnb or see if there's another small resort that is a-la-carte as I don't really utilize the all inclusive benefits. I'm there perfect customer! haha And Bayahibe has some AMAZING restaurants a short walk up the beach - delicious food and very inexpensive. The town itself is super cute too. The beach and pools were wonderful here. The lobby was great as well as the bars/lounge areas and coffee bar. I'd say this resort has some kinks it needs to work out with service (it'd be nice to get a water refill at dinner without having to track someone down) and it'd be nice to be able to tip via folio (I've been able to do this at other all inclusive resorts - even if the bill balance is zero - we still got a folio at the end of our meal or when room service was delivered to be able to add a tip (at least I think we were) -- typically I do the European or a-la-carte plan as I don't eat or drink much, so it's more cost effective and allows me to spend more time off property. If this was the only option available to me, sure I'd stay again. Did I really do that much research on Secrets resorts before staying? No I didn't so maybe all this is pretty normal and my expectations were high based on other places I've stayed. Leaving this as a helpful review hopefully for someone or as feedback for the hotel. If you asked me to my face if this place was nice, I'd say yes. It is nice. It's got a great view. It was fine and I enjoyed my time in Bayahibe.

  Perfect way to spend a week doing nothing but swimming, eating and resting

  Perfect place for rest and relaxation with many satisfying dining experiences. The staff was great and made the stay extra nice. Beware - the time passes very quickly here.

  18 16 Bar at Secrets LaRomana

  Johanna and Keysi at 18 16 bar were the best !!! Will miss seeing their smiling faces every day. They are reason enough to come back for another visit !!

  Secrets La Romana 10/10

  Last week was my third trip to Secrets La Romana, and it was just as amazing as the first time! The water was perfect for swimming, wading, floating, and snorkeling. The food was delicious, and the hostesses and servers were very attentive and friendly. The entertainment team was exceptional, especially Esteban, Maria and Anna! We enjoyed the morning yoga classes and an afternoon hobie cat ride while there was a good breeze. The rooms were very clean and nicely stocked; the maid service in building 1 was top notch! The check in and check out process was easy and quick. We hope to make this an annual vacation trip!

  Not the Experience I expected

  It was one of the worse experiences I've had at a resort. The food was terrible every place we at. No signs to know where you were going. Then they had my dates wrong and locked me out of my room. I had to walk back and forth in the blazing 90-degree heat, getting paperwork to prove to them my check out was the next day. When I proved to them, I was correct, they still gave me attitude. the killer part, they never apologized once and owned up for the mishap. They act like I was looking for a free night. This is after I upgraded my room back in May to a preferred room. Come to find out at check-out it came with a butler. SMH. There are a lot more places I would recommend other than this place! It might be worth 2 stares with a 5-star price!
