Overcharge during checkin
You hear nightmare money grab stories of Mexican Resorts, well this place is exactly that. When we arrived they hit us w an extra $300 per day charge for 5 days ($1500) for my 2 kids because they said the kids are too old (8 & 12). My Expedia booking included my kids but the hotel wouldnt honor it and i had no choice but to comply w their rules because my family and I are literally at checkin. So they got me for another $1500, i ended up paying $950 per night for 2 adults & 2 kids. Then the all inclusive pool bar closes at a certain time so u have to go to lobby bar but whos gonna go from pool to lobby bar which is a 5 min walk and up an elevator. Then the liquor cart comes around but its only a tease because they charge you extra for that. Stay somewhere else folks or risk getting taken when you arrive.

Mixed feelings - Some highs, Some Mises
We were excited to arrive and definitely appreciated the warm hospitality—staff truly go out of their way to take care of you, which made a great first impression. That said, a few things kept this resort from being exceptional. Be prepared for a sales pitch disguised as a “90-minute breakfast,” which felt more like a timeshare presentation. The resort is showing signs of age, with noticeable wear and tear. Our room, while clean, could really use some updating. Room service is limited, and food and drink availability is restricted to certain hours—which was inconvenient at times. The pool also closes surprisingly early for a resort—8 p.m., which cuts short evening relaxation. There aren’t many activities offered, so if you’re looking to truly unwind and do very little, that might actually work in your favor. On a positive note, the food was decent overall—Tamarindos was our favorite spot. We’re still undecided on whether we’d return, but we’re glad we gave it a try.

A pretty good stay
This was our second time staying at Dreams Vallarta Bay — the first being in 2017 when it was called Now Amber. The resort has aged a bit, but it still has charm. The grounds are beautiful, and the overall atmosphere is nice. One of the highlights was the friendly staff. Ricardo, our butler in the Preferred Club, was helpful and attentive throughout our stay. A special shoutout to Norma at the concierge, who went above and beyond to secure us a dinner reservation at the teppanyaki restaurant. Another standout was maintenance crew who came and saved my daughter's earring after she dropped it down the drain in the bathroom. The pool area was very enjoyable — plenty of chairs available due to the resort being at about 50% capacity during low season in June. The kids had a great time, and the pool activities were a lot of fun for them. Now for the areas that could use improvement: housekeeping was the biggest frustration. During our 3 night stay, the room was only cleaned once. We would be out for hours, and no service. Then, of course, when we returned to rest with the Do Not Disturb sign on, that is when they wanted to clean — and they were unwilling to come back later even though they said they would. Another downside was the Preferred Club breakfast — it was cold and not up to expectations the first time we tried it, so we opted for the buffet the rest of the mornings. On a positive note, the resort did recognize Hyatt Explorist status, which was appreciated. It was a fun and relaxing trip, especially for the kids — with a few bumps that, if smoothed out, could make this a five-star stay.

Service was great!
We stayed for 6 days in early May, 2025 for our wedding. We had 33 guests total including ourselves of all ages. The wedding package we purchased through the resort was a great deal, and we booked a room block that saved ourselves and our guests a lot of money. Our wedding coordinator, Karla was so helpful, attentive and thorough - all of the staff at the resort was, from the poolside service, to servers and bartenders at the wedding. The service we received at the wedding and the resort as a whole was top-notch, the staff truly went above and beyond to make our time there amazing.
