Not up to expectations
Having spent 2 weeks here and sampling all its delights I can honestly say we had a nice holiday, however our expectations were probably set a bit higher than nice and we were left feeling a little let down. For a start we came to celebrate a big birthday which was mentioned on the booking form, but the hotel did nothing to mark this except to say happy birthday when we checked in. On arrival we were also asked if we wanted to upgrade our room at a considerable cost before we had even seen our room- which suggested they new it wasn’t exactly 5*! To be fair the room was comfortable and clean although a bit tired and dark. There seems to be a two tier system operating on the beach where members get sunbeds mattresses and huge amounts of space, but everyone else is crammed in on tired and uncomfortable sunbeds. The food also is pretty hit and miss, omelettes at breakfast are good, coffee served at breakfast is so weak we had to ask for one to be made at the bar, which most waiters kindly obliged us with. The Italian restaurant provides really decent food providing you order right, the steak was first class. Also a special mention for Angela and Jordi who were very hospitable. The Vegan restaurant was great but only open at lunch which was a shame as they took pride in their food there. Another special shout out to Julian who served us there who was very charming. Generally the staff are very friendly and helpful, Andrea the yoga teacher is lovely, as is Luis. But then again on the flip side we would like to give a not so special mention to Alejandro the main concierge, who was charmless and responded more often than not with Computer says no and even failed to make our booking at the Italian despite having assured us he had. There was us thinking that that the role of a concierge was to help and facilitate…… Our room was cleaned daily, but three or four times we had to call up about missing towels, which were taken and not replaced- again, something you wouldn’t really expect in a 5*. The towels had seen better days too and could do with replacing, as could the yoga mats which were in a very sorry state! The Tui staff Marcelo and Andrea go out of their way to help, thank you to them. The trip to Playa del Carmen is offered for $1, but please note we now know why - hard sale of expensive jewellery and Tequila which was quite an unpleasant experience and left us feeling uncomfortable. I can’t submit this review without mentioning that on three occasions we witnessed coconuts falling onto the paths. Some effort was being made to keep them pruned but possibly not enough. Guests seemed to joke about it, but I have no doubt that being hit by one would be no laughing matter. All in all we had a good time but don’t expect premium 5* unless you pay a premium!

The sweet life at seaside suites
One of our favorite resorts to visit in the riviera maya area! We love the romantic feel as the resort is on the smaller side compared to some of their sister resorts but we love the intimate feel! The staff is so kind, happy to help and feels like family! Anselmo was one of my favorite waiters and each day we got him serving us at breakfast or lunch was always extra special! The spa is one of our favorites and we always enjoy the hydrotherapy. We are members so we also enjoyed our butler Carlos and our other butler Edith! They had all of our dinners and special activities scheduled and taken care of as well as daily breakfast requests. We also really enjoy the daily resort activities and staff Luana and Benjamin were so much fun and such a joy to experience each day! Typically there’s more activities/events and even they bring in vendors to shop from one of the days of the week in the evening but that didn’t happen this trip… Maybe because a lot of the nights it was stormy but that’s no one’s fault besides Mother Nature! All in all, a really great time! The tortellini at Mia Casa is one of my favorites and you can’t go wrong with the sushi or orange chicken at KlayTalaay! My only complaint the whole trip was the main pool at seaside suites bartender Carlos David. For some reason he continually had an attitude. Not sure if it was at me or other guests … or that the guests were intermingling making friends and ordering shots -- either way … I was not impressed with pool bar boy Carlos David as he was rude multiple times on multiple occasions and even at one point asked me to stop speaking Spanish and just speak English — which I found to be extremely rude considering everyone else on the resort was impressed with my Spanish, and complimented me many times how nice it was someone coming in and being able to speak their language so maybe Carlos David was having a bad day or two — but that’s where he should learn that we choose our job. If he’s not happy serving the public, go pick up trash or work in the back somewhere where you don’t have to speak to or deal with guests but that’s just my advice as a girl that’s waitressed 15 years myself 🤷🏽♀️😵💫🫣🥰

Foam Party!!!!! 🥳 🎉
Always love coming to this resort! I’ve been coming to this resort for about 10- 15 times. The staff is amazing and always willing to do whatever it takes to make you happy! The activity staff including Luis, Jose, Carlos, Maria, Ixchell and Benjamin made our trip better than we could’ve ever imagined—-they were SO MUCH FUN!! Can’t wait to come back in one month again :) And one of the wonderful things about seaside suites is the foam party, is so much fun, you should have a try and normally is on Saturdays. Mike as DJ is great

Great staff let down by poor organisation
Firstly the best bit was all the staff who without exception worked incredibly hard. The gardeners keep the mature grounds immaculate: sweeping, trimming vegetation and removing coconuts so that there is not a “bombing raid” when the wind gets up or the banded raccoons have climbed up the palms and chewed the nuts loose. We stayed in Palms side which is definitely best for activities led by sexy Luis and his team that made everything fun. The restaurant organisers- Vanessa, Sheila, Ricardo, Franco and Julian could not have been more helpful trying to find dishes that did not contain Lactose for me and once even entering the closed Vegan restaurant to get their ice cream. Theoretically TUI blue specialises in catering for various dietary requirements but the outdoor vegan restaurant was only open 4 lunchtimes this October. Unless you had booked into a specialist restaurant days in advance there was a severe shortage of evening restaurants and regular visitors told me that this was not normal in previous years. We had to wait for 50 mins for a table in the Gourmet pub, 40 mins in Culinarium (friends waited 1hr 40 mins on the same evening!) and even 15 mins at the Seaside Market self- service buffet. This Management economising decision caused many grumbles among guests. The dish labels and menu sheets were frequently labelled wrongly about the ingredients of the dishes even when you could read the orange print, on cream paper, in the subdued lighting of the restaurants. The chef in Culinarium hadn’t been told which sweets contained dairy and no evening restaurant stocked the vegan ice cream so for 2 weeks all I was offered for sweet at any restaurant, including the bookable ones, was dry “chocolate” cake or stewed apple. That is not what would be expected at a 5 star resort. The room in block 35 was spacious and the bed was really comfortable but unlike at every other resort I have visited, the air conditioner only cooled the room and did not dehumidify. Consequently all our clothes became damp and hung- up swim clothes didn’t dry at all. I guess that is why they have to offer a change of towels every day. The room was showing its age and lack of maintenance in that both sink plugs were not functioning, nor the illuminated vanity mirror. Water leaked from the base of the hot tap when the cold tap was turned on. The PIR light for the toilet didn’t switch off and some of the buttons for the safe didn’t connect reliably. The jacuzzi plug wasn’t the right one so the water leaked away then jets sprayed everywhere when you stood up. The engineer had to come and mend the jacuzzi pump because it wasn’t working. A coincidence to find all of these faults in one room?!! The site map is confusing/misleading with items mislocated, misnamed or omitted while the information on the TUI app about which restaurants are open was sometimes not up to date. New visitors wander about dazed.and the poor TUI reps are besieged. TUI needs to sort out this hotel management.

Sexy Luana
We’re coming to the end of our holiday here at El Dorado seaside suites . The rooms are fantastic, large and spacious. Swim out suites on the ground floor with direct access to the swim up bar are the ones to go for . The food could be better, the Italian is far the best restaurant. For what we payed, this hotel is certainly value for money. The entertainment at the swim up bar is fantastic. LUANA is a credit to the hotel. We’ve been to Mexico many times and Luana is easy the best at getting people to have a great time .
