Rooms were gross, pool too small, no separate adults pool
We were there July 23-July 30 2025. Staff was nice and very accommodating. I loved the location in Waikoloa. But I agree with other reviewers the place is filthy. I couldn't even make myself take pictures of my room. Mold, rotting walls, stains, molded rotting caulk. I just felt grossed out. Carpets were filthy around the hotel. I will also say the pool was small in that they sectioned off a small bit for adults the rest was for families. I like an adults only pool so I can get some relaxation. The beach was a small crescent so there wasn't space there either. This would be fine as we had plenty of beach time, but the reason you book a Fairmont is for the luxury experience. This didn't deliver. Dining was expensive as one would expect, so I have no complaints about that, but quality was sub par. I will book at another hotel next time. I would skip this property until they do a thorough clean and restoration.

Fine hotel but no shade
I stayed at Fairmont Orchid with my husband and 2 young kids in July. I definitely will not come back. The hotel is nice, the rooms are pretty clean, staff is mostly friendly, there are comfortable beds but there are a few must haves that are missing and made the trip uncomfortable. There is absolutely no shade at the beach. You can rent an umbrella type chair that has 2 seats for $150 a day (not sure for how many hours), and even these are not full shade. I am used to resorts having tons of umbrellas on their beach for everyone to use. It is unacceptable not to have umbrellas set up at a 5 star hotel beach especially when there are no trees for shade. It is also almost impossible to find shady seats at the pool as people snag them all before 9am and leave their stuff on them all day. The pool is fully sunny with no trees to shade any area of the pool. So if you love full sun you won’t mind but with small kids I like to have some shady areas to play. It is a typical resort— they charge for everything. You can borrow snorkel gear for 1 hour a day but other than that if you want it longer or want a paddle board or something you have to pay. The area surrounding the hotel is all lava rocks/desert so not great for exploring unless you drive 1.5 hours away to the other side of the island which also wasn’t so great. Had I known I was staying on Mars with all of the lava rocks I definitely would have gone to another island. The food at the hotel is also pretty bad. It is almost impossible to find healthy options for the kids for lunch, there’s a food truck for tacos but then they cook the fish in vegetable oil which defeats the purpose of healthy fish. The food at the restaurants was mediocre and a total rip off. We left the property for most meals as the food sucked. I recommend checking out another island!

Food Quality Is Extremely Sub-Par, Look Elsewhere for Dining
The hotel itself is well located and has all the amenities you would look for in a Hawaiian resort. The pool and beach layout are beautiful and the staff here are friendly and accommodative. It was ana amazing area to explore with walking trails and the ability to run or snorkel right at the beach on property. The staff at the hotel was great and would recommend the service to anyone. The property itself was beautiful, but would note that it is in need of a facelift. Many of the elevators were out and you could tell the hotel hasn't really been touched in 30 years outside of some freshened room decor. Unfortunately the bathrooms need some love with both our showerheads barely functional. The one thing to note is the food pricing/quality. Having spent a lot of money at nice hotels, I have no problem paying up for a luxury accommodation or dealing with high priced food options, but with a high price unfortunately comes reasonable expectations. The pricing at both Brown's Beach House and Binchotan restaurants were some of the wildest pricing for the most mediocre food I've ever had. Hale Kai Restaurant and the Taco Truck had better food than those two places and it was obviously cheaper. The fish options at both upscale restaurants were lacking in quality which is shocking for Hawaii. At the end of the day if I could do it all over again, I would have eaten off property at the Canoe House or Mauna Lani's restaurants down the beach. At least we got great quality food items for the price we paid down there.

Extremely rude and disrespectful employee at the beach shack
EXTREMELY RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL at the beach shack. We flew so many hours to come here and no one deserves to be treated disrespectfully. The employee named Maleya was super nasty. This is not a true 5 star hotel. Stay away if you don’t want to be treated horribly. We have been so many places around the world in Asia and Europe and this is my first time encounter a very rude employee at this Fairmont Orchid. This is the rudest place in the whole world. When I told her to stopping treating me rudely and will report to the manager. She said go ahead and talk to the manager. There was no apology and when I asked what her name was, she asked me back what’s your name? If you ask me what my name is, I should be able to ask you back what’s your name is. And she got real snappy and snotty with me. Again I have never encountered any employee like this at any resort in the world. No one deserves to be treated this way when you’re on a vacation and paying an arm and a leg for it.

From the moment we arrived at the Fairmont Orchid, we were surrounded by Hawaiian luxury. The resort exceeded all our expectations and gave us a truly unforgettable experience. We had planned our wedding at the Fairmont using their wedding package, and everything turned out absolutely perfect. A huge part of that was thanks to Aria, our incredible wedding coordinator. She is amazing—so helpful, upbeat, and organized. From start to finish, Aria made the entire process smooth and enjoyable. She brought our vision to life effortlessly and made our special day feel easy, meaningful, and truly magical. We honestly couldn’t have asked for more. Our ocean view room was spacious, spotless, and tastefully decorated, with a private lanai where we loved having our morning coffee while watching the sun rise over the mountains. The resort grounds were stunning—lush gardens, peaceful koi ponds, and beautiful walking paths along the beach. We spent our days relaxing by the pool, swimming in the lagoon, and enjoying activities like paddleboarding, snorkeling, and the amazing luau. Everything about our stay felt magical, and we’re already dreaming of coming back. A solid 5 stars!
