Serviceable, average rooms, avg/poor service; ample (average) breakfasts and bad coffee.
Trying to provide a balanced review. Our room was clean and was serviced (housekeeping) well. Hotel overall was worn and broken, particularly the pool and jacuzzi area. Breakfast buffet middling and coffee is outright bad. Biggest disappointment was the service. Platinum elite, but no effort made for us to feel special. Welcome gift the same two bottles of bad-tasting water left in the room each day by housekeeping. Worst was that they offered to move us to the newer holiday inn (not express), but made the offer through the “WhatsApp” app on day of arrival and didn’t mention it when we checked in. When we noticed two days later (6 day stay), they said it was our fault and when we suggested basic customer service remedies (like providing a voucher to try out one breakfast at the other hotel), they just said no. Offered to maybe do something “on our next stay” at the hotel. Probably not a good choice for group bookings or conferences where customer service is important. That goes for the newer holiday inn “marina and golf” as well. Walkable (close to airport and near enough to marina cafes and restaurants), but walking is unpleasant due to dirty, narrow and broken sidewalks and lots of traffic.

BEWARE STEPS BY POOL.
The steps by the pool and hot tub are very smooth, there is NO anti-slip finish on them. I fell and bruised myself rather badly. To add insult to injury, the hot tub doesn’t function and the pool is ice cold. Lots of sand and dead bugs in both. We stayed here last year and all was good, not sure what changed.

Excellent base for a PV visit!
Finally revisiting post-COVID. HIE did not disappoint! Stayed in the same city-view suite as our last PV vacay. Roomy, clean, and perfect for our needs. Bus is very convenient to the hotel, and we ranged all over from airport to RZ several times. Pool is small, but very enjoyable, and we are glad we stayed in Spring to get extra sunshine on that side. Breakfast was great (thank you, Eduardo, for your excellent service!). Coffee/lounge ( new since our last visit) was a bonus- props to Janete and Oscar!) Also, thank you so much to Karla in housekeeping. You were so helpful and a ray of sunshine every day! :-) Lastly, thank you to Claudia at the front desk for the lovely welcome... Would definitely stay again.

Caveat Emptor
The only reason I chose this hotel to stay in was because it's in the IHG program, of which I am a member. As part of that membership, I am supposed to get things like a room upgrade when possible, and a gym with working equipment. I did get a nice room, but oddly no mini fridge, no microwave, a coffee machine that only makes instant, and no separate seating area, all things most HI-Expresses have, even outside of the US. I have one more night on my reservation, and frankly if I handn't made a non-refundable reservation, I'd be checking out this morning. The staff are indifferent. When I first asked if I could have a small fridge in my room to keep water cold, I was directed to the ice machine. I thanked them, and asked again nicely for a mini-fridge and was told the hotel did not offer them. When I asked about the gym equipment, the treadmill and the ellipse not working, I was met with a shrug by the ladies at the front desk. Another guest told me their sister property down the road was much better and that seemed to be where they money was being spent. I would not stay here again, unless I was paid to.

Just "ok"
Just OK. Rooms are decent. Breakfast is an absolute $hitshow - place is packed - tables are dirty (in fairness to guy cleaning it's just him and 50 tables) and run out of everything the instant it comes out (if it actually makes it - people are grabbing it before they can put it into tray. Toast but no butter no jam no peanut butter scrambled eggs were tasteless (If any taste it was bad) Pool and area small - no towels - phoned down half an hour ago - They said they bring them right up - just phoned again. They said 10 minutes. I pondering why I gave them a 3/5 TBH - I guess you get what you pay for ($140 a night)
