  Another lovely relaxing holiday at the Riu Monica Friendly and helpful staff,good food,pool area and pool bar very nice all the communal areas very smart Bedrooms lovely cleaned to a high standard Also lovely location Will be back soon

  Perhaps the most positive review we've written.

  First class hotel, first class service, amazing food in restaurant. Adults only, and populated largely by over 60s in November, We stayed for a week - for a second time - and couldn’t fault anything. Very pleasant welcome at reception when we arrived - chilled glasses of bubbly were a nice touch. We had our keys for the room within 15 minutes , even though about 40 others were checking in at the same time. Great service after a tiring flight. The room was immaculate, comfortable and clean with a balcony and a view out to sea. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly and welcoming - receptionists, kitchen workers, waiters and cleaners. This is a tightly-run hotel where everyone seems to be happy and staff really seem to want guests to enjoy their holiday. The food in the restaurant was excellent and beautifully presented buffet-style. The choices are incredible, and there's a really good comprehensive healthy-eating selection. Bottles of house wine are of good quality, and at 11 Euros very good value. It was a nice surprise to see the outdoor swimming pool open in November, and many of the guests were happily lazing around on beach beds in the sun, some of them ordering drinks from the pool bar. The indoor pool and gym were very clean, though few people were using the facilities when we were there. There was free live entertainment in the hotel every night, but it wasn't for us. It was of the type you'd expect to see in family holiday centres, so, without wanting to sound snobbish, rather downmarket for a hotel of this standard. This isn't a complaint. The concert room was packed most nights, so perhaps the majority enjoyed the entertainment. The hotel is in a brilliant location, next to the beach, and a 10 minute walk into the centre of Nerja. There are a dozen bars and restaurants very near to the Riu Monica, and the town centre streets are lined with little shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Well done to the management and staff for providing such a great base for a holiday.

  Exceptional

  Firstly the RIU Hotel Monica welcomes their guests with a glass of Fizz. A great start to a wonderful week at this excellent hotel. Our first visit. There was everything you could want at Hotel Monica. Excellent location opposite the beach and close to the old town of Nerja. A spacious, attractive and welcoming entrance and Reception area with plenty of comfortable sofas and chairs. A bar and lounge area for the evening entertainment or just a nice peaceful day room was equally lovely. Our bedroom 430 was spacious with a good side view of the sea and gardens. A nice bathroom with a powerful walk in shower. The bed and pillows were one of the most comfortable I've ever had in a hotel. The buffet restaurant and the selection of food available was fabulous. I could write so much more about this lovely hotel. BUT the very best of this hotel were their Exceptional Staff. And not just in one department. All of the staff. From the girls in housekeeping to the reception staff, to the fabulous and friendly restaurant and bar staff. They are all a credit to the hotel. Thanks to all of you for making our stay at RIU Hotel Monica so wonderful.

  Great hotel

  Arrived at hotel with tui coach bus was full so reception was brilliant split into 4 lines so got to room quick reception staff very good room was great with sea view room was spotless it got cleaned every day by a very nice maid food excellent entertainment every night was very good and very friendly staff very helpful and nice room safe was free resort great nice place and great hotel would recommend to any body coming to Nerja

  Another brilliant stay!

  We’ve just returned from our 4th visit to the Riu Monica - there’s not much to add to the mostly positive reviews below, or my previous reviews! The hotel is top notch and rightly deserves the plaudits it receives. From the moment you arrive in reception, where you’re greeted by the wonderful Ana Marie and Nico, and a lovely refreshing and welcome glass of Cava, you are looked after superbly. The whole hotel from the bedrooms, public rooms, gardens and swimming pool areas are superb and immaculately maintained and serviced. The bedrooms are large and spacious with really comfortable beds, mini fridge, safe, plenty of wardrobe space and a lovely bathroom with a super walk in shower. Towels are changed as and when required and the rooms are kept immaculate by housekeeping. We had a room on the 5th floor with lovely views from our balcony out towards Torrox and the surrounding mountains. The main restaurant was extremely well run and the food was excellent both at breakfast and dinner. Plenty of choice with lots of live cooking by the chefs, including Bertello and head chef Jose. Service was spot on by all the staff and all superbly managed by Manuel, Antonio and Jose Luis. We did not use the Ole restaurant which you need to pre book at reception. Well done everyone. We love the bar at the Monica, and it was great to hear and see that Rodrigo had been promoted. He’s such an asset to the hotel. Jose, Mario and Vicente provide great bar service and the whole team are brilliant. There is nightly entertainment in the bar and this was pretty good. The gardens and swimming pool areas are immaculately kept and there were plenty of sunbeds and shades available. Beach towels are provided on check in, and can be changed as and when required at reception. Sadly some guests ‘reserve’ sunbeds and then disappear for hours. I realise it’s a difficult issue to police but I don’t understand why the hotel hasn’t addressed the problem. It’s been going on for a long time and is highlighted by many in their reviews. I particularly like the option of being by a pool and having facilities but literally just across from the beach and the lovely Med, when a dip is called for. The biggest asset the hotel has is its staff. Without fail they do a great job with the sole aim of making your stay special. There are too many to name all individually but it was great to be looked after by Maria, Lola, David, and Alfredo. So another fabulous stay at arguably our favourite holiday hotel, and indeed hotel chain. We’ll be back next year, without fail! Can’t say fairer than that!!
