Service is not 5* standard
First I will start with the positives the hotel is lovely and well maintained and very clean. The room had a large comfy bed and we requested a garden view which I recommend as the view and quietness was perfect. Breakfast was varied and very good so much to choose from between cooked to Buffett style. This hotel is not a resort hotel so there was lots of conferences going on while we were there but the best bit was you could get a pool bed at any time of day as very quiet. Negatives is the service as another review said Spanish customers come first and seem to get better service. The pool restaurant I would definitely not recommend as I pointed to a vegan burger and explained I was vegetarian and they brought me a veal burger and I only noticed as it had egg lucky I never ate it and they brought a replacement after I complained and although vegan I bit into it and it was freezing 🥶 so complained and never ate there again!. There was also decking getting replaced at the pool a few days and quite a bit of noise which you are aware of when trying to relax. The staff are not fluent in English and sometimes language can be a barrier. Most were lovely a few rude . The hotel is 10 minutes walking distance to the centre through a beautiful park so ideally located. I might in the future consider returning as Santa Cruz is a great place to visit and with some tweeks this hotel could be great.

Could do better
We have stayed here several times previously and always been happy. However when we stayed here recently we were disappointed with standards of service and food quality which were poor at times. Examples: When dining in the Laurels poolside restaurant it was very obvious that Spanish speakers were given priority. On one occasion we were shown to a table and provided with menus. Around five minutes later a group of Spanish speaking ladies arrived and their order was taken very quickly - we were still waiting to give our order ten minutes later. We eventually ordered but our drinks didn't come, even after our starters had arrived. I had to ask repeatedly for our drinks. When the wine came it was not the one we ordered. No apologies offered. When speaking to staff in Spanish many of them would reply in English, often fairly poor. I found this very rude as I can speak reasonable Spanish and I want to use the opportunity to practice the language. Hot food at breakfast doesn't stay hot for long - this is made worse by the cold plates provided. Why can't hot plates be provided as in many other hotels ? On arrival at the room allocated we discovered problems. The sink plugs didn't hold water. There was no water jug provided for the in-house filtered water system.

Great Experience
Excellent service (professional, friendly and quick); excellent food and amenities. Front desk staff were helpful in helping us to find something to do for 1/2 a day. Supper and breakfast buffets were excellent. Bed was VERY comfortable.

Average at best
I was excited to stay here but what a total letdown. I thoughtthis was suppose to be a nice hotel. I would put it in the same ballpark as a holiday inn, in the US. Very small rooms even though I’m in a deluxe room. Very old furniture scuffed up and dirty feeling & no where to put clothes besides the 4 hangers provided. Staff are fine but nothing special I’m here for work and already looking at another place to stay.

Very good but not 5* as we would know it
Above all else the staff are fantastic and put me to shame with their language skills, they were able to change between English, German, French and Spanish so easily. We booked a standard room for our anniversary and are currently in room 274 and it is lovely but a little tired looking and because it’s facing the street can be noisy at night when the bins are collected at 1am, the main room had enough space and storage for the two of us. the bathroom (double sinks) does not have storage/shelves for wash bags etc so was awkward and meant we are not able to put out our toiletries, the bath/shower was arranged so it was difficult to get in and out of, if you have balance/slight mobility issues I would not recommend . Also the shower screen was very difficult to close so water covers the floor, I would get an extra towel for the floor to keep it dry. Also no hooks to hang towels to dry. The hairdryer is ok , it’s attached to the wall type, but kept stopping after less than a minute and had to wait 2-3 mins for it to work again, the staff were very god to send a replacement. The bathroom mirror light did not work at all but the overhead light was adequate. Each floor has a filtered water dispenser which was very nice. We booked room only and were offered breakfast at €20pp, we tried for 2 days but not for us, we did not feel it was value for money as we saw local cafes offering coffee, juice and breakfast sandwich for €5-7. The buffet has most of what you could need and an additional hot food to the table menu but it’s not 5*, I ordered eggs Benedict and the egg was so raw it turned my stomach and the bread was not a muffin so was not a true eggs Benedict. Being in the Canary Islands I would have loved to see a local hot fish option at breakfast. Grounds, beautiful areas and so many options whether a pool lounger or a comfy sofa in the shade. There is an ‘indoor’ pool but this is an extra charge, currently it’s €20pp for 90 mins Overall we are enjoying our anniversary and
