Wonderful relaxing holiday in a stunning location
My friend and I stayed for a week in September at Iberostar Selection Playa De Muro Village Hotel in the Superior Double room for Solo use, which was lovely. We overlooked the restaurant which was nice. From the day we arrived we were treated really well, as soon as we got to the hotel we were offered nice cool face towels and a welcome drink, both much needed after a long time travelling and it was over 30 degrees Celsius. My friend and I were staying half board, our rooms were lovely and clean, I did have ants in my room when I arrived and asked for them to be dealt with which they were by Margarita, the cleaner the next day. My balcony light didn’t work either which was shame as it got dark by 8pm The location of the hotel is stunning, lovely pools to choose from, quiet areas to have a chill out and perhaps a pre dinner drink while looking out to Alcudia bay/beach. The beach was stunning and crystal clear water with small fish that come right up to the shore. Also beautiful pine trees to shade under when it got too hot, and Balinese beds for hire if you wanted. We were lucky to be given a Balinese bed to relax on one afternoon as a kind gesture from the staff, which was a lovely surprise. The food options were excellent for breakfast and dinner and all the staff were lovely and kind and you could see they were happy in their work and proud of working there. The bread section needs labelling so you know what breads choices there are, the ingredients and if they are gluten free or not. Everywhere was kept nice and clean. The entertainment was good, the flamenco dancing was excellent and the children were all kept entertained in the pre school club- there were only preschool children there when we stayed. Plenty of local restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, buses on the main road at the front of the hotel. The only negative I had was the that when you had a shower the clothes and bedding would get damp as the cupboard for the clothes is just opposite the shower/ bathroom area, so I had to put some of my clothes out to dry on the balcony which didn’t take long and also the morning we left to come back home, it was about 7am when we checked out but the young man at the reception should have greeted us with a smile and been a bit more welcoming in bidding us goodbye or ‘ Thankyou for staying with us, please come again ‘, but he hardly said anything, cut off our wrist bands and that was that, I guess he’d been up all night?

An honest review
I’m currently staying at this hotel and have mixed feelings about our stay. Pros - on arrival, Juan from reception was super helpful, answered all of our questions and made us feel welcome - many supermarkets across the road if you want to grab some essentials and/or souvenirs - Patricia from the coffee shop makes fantastic coffee and always with a smile, she works very hard on each coffee and it doesn’t go unnoticed. We love our coffee so this was a nice addition. Thank you to Patricia! - daily kids entertainment is really good ie cookie making, clay making and the staff running the programmes are super friendly Cons - SPA - there is no spa in this hotel if you want to have a treatment you have to visit the sister hotel (waves) next door however I personally received such bad service I wouldn’t even recommend it. I wanted to book a treatment for shoulder pain - on arrival the spa manager was typing away, didn’t even acknowledge me. I was waiting for about 4 minutes until I asked if I should come back. I was told to wait, I did. Eventually when she spoke it was unhelpful and I wish I didn’t! Safe to say I didn’t go back to the spa and instead got a lovely massage on the beach for 20 euros. At least I know my money was spent well! - Buffet restaurant - generally ok, nothing that blows your mind. We’ve been to many 5* restaurants and in comparison the food offering is mediocre. Not sure how clean it is either - I spotted some plates which weren’t clean so made the chef aware and they said ok, and it was left on the side for a while. Other 5* hotels would attend to this right away and be embarrassed by it. In addition we went for breakfast one morning and wanted a particular table as it fits the pushchair on the side. The waitress (I won’t name as she apologised) told us to find another table as it would take too long to clean the one we want. I mean, really?! I complained and she apologised. But this left a sour taste for the remaining holiday. - if I was a couple I would stay away - so many kids, and dinner is very overstimulating even for me! It is very much geared towards families - evening entertainment is mediocre. There was a fairytale evening and the hotel tried too hard to cater to both kids and adults - flopped massively. If you’re going to sing fairytale songs it has to be from the fairytale, kids clock it and adults cringe. - the wrist band given on arrival is what you wear for your duration - I couldn’t stand mine so ripped it off and kept it in my phone case. The wrist band lets you in to your room and lets staff know what band you have ie half board etc. - beach bar staff - i ordered many drinks from the bar today on different occasions. The lady at the bar spoke in Spanish to get male colleagues asking them to check my room number (to see what band I have) it was rude and unnecessary. Just ask yourself. Overall we paid for a 5* hotel and expected the service to match consistently. It didn’t. We won’t be returning.

Ok but not 5 star
Our room was great my sons room was on the second floor after requesting a ground floor room by email and normal things in the room for a 11 month old baby which was confirmed, on arrival there was nothing though they did sort this out not a great start. Having always stayed in 5 star hotels this is not one it is only just a 4 star, the staff are very good but in the Star cafe if you can find someone to serve you only one member of staff can make a Frappe the others are clueless. Cocktails are great depending on who makes them again no consistency , as with the food no where near 5 star a lot was barely warm and very poor combinations. It was either excellent or very poor depending who cooked them , the chefs did not know how to cook a lot of the themed nights specials so it was pot look. We found the gardens and outside spaces excellent no problems getting sunbeds and the pools were very good, also the room service was excellent cleaned everyday to a high standard.

You've got to go there!!!
We were just expecting a nice beachfront venue,...but the location simply got us flabbergasted. Excellent site, cozy rooms, top quality food -all and any option available; kids, vegan,..- extraordinary cleanliness, ....and the team!...people made us feel home! We need to name people at the restaurant: Pepe, Andrés, Juan (do not listen to his dad jokes!) and the management team led by Cristina, Martín, Candela and Manuela. You guys rock! Keep it up, well come back!

Brilliant location and outstanding service
Wonderful venue right on the beautiful playa de muro beach. The perfect size of hotel, not too big, yet everything you could want or need. All the staff were brilliant, so helpful and friendly. We made good use of the excellent gym facilities and enjoyed lovely walks along the beach. The pool area is also very nice. We were bed and breakfast only, but the breakfast offerings were superb. Location excellent, with many local restaurants close by as well as a short taxi ride to Old Alcudia Town for more variety of food and shops. We highly recommend this hotel.
