Stay at the Fairmont, El San Juan next door.
S Upon arrival our room wasn’t ready (which was expected) but we were able to get wrist bands and enjoy the pool and beach. Check-in was excellent. We received a text when our room was ready and the room was good. Only complaint is that the shampoo/soap dispensers in the shower were empty. They were replaced the next day. I did kill a roach in the room, but I guess they’re everywhere in PR. No microwave in the room and I received cold coffee from overpriced room service (and I couldn’t even warm it). I stayed in this RS last December and returned because that was a great experience. This time not so much. Service was definitely not what I paid for. I chose this place due to getting service at the beach and room service. The service at the beach was good the first day, nonexistent the second day and terrible the third day. I had to chase the guy down. Pay attention that tip is included and don’t tip extra accidentally (this goes for service on the beach and room service). The food was overall average and very expensive. On the second day my boyfriend had the churrasco wrap at the pool bar and got food poisoning. He spent most of the trip in the room vomiting. On our final night we ventured next door to the Fairnont El San Juan and had an amazing experience. I will not hesitate to stay there in the future. I will not be returning to RS. The value for the money is absolutely not there anymore. The property is starting to look rundown and the service and food quality as well. Upon departure, we asked the valet to store our bags until we were ready to leave. He told us to see the person at the check-in desk, who advised us to see the valet. We told him it was the valet who sent us to him and he came out and helped us finally. When retrieving our bags later, the same valet refused to help us again and had a nasty attitude. We had to find someone else to retrieve our bags for us. Arriving home now I see charges on my credit card that I don’t recognize from the resort. I’ll have to call and find out what that is all about. Overall, I’m completely disappointed with this experience. The service has gone so far downhill and for what I paid it is disgusting. I will never return. I’m not sure what has changed in the past year, but it is definitely not for the better.

Great stay!
Everything was great, from food, to beach, to room service! Emianette kept our room tidy and fresh, the beach was only steps away, and the location was awesome. Thank you for an awesome trip!

Feeling Pampered in Puerto Rico!
The Royal Sonesta is a lovely high-end resort hotel with well-appointed comfortable rooms and a great multi-area pool with a swim-up bar where you can order food and drinks. There are several choices for a variety of food inside the resort, all of it pretty pricey but quite tasty as well. The beach access was excellent with showers nearby. All in all, a great place to feel pampered!

Horrible customer service, stay at the El San Juan. It’s much better.
I’m staying at the El San Juan , Beautiful hotel, and very customer friendly, Yesterday I met my friends who are staying at the Royal Sonesta via poolside bar. We ate and drank all day and spent hundreds of dollars. Today when I attempted to enter and meet them at the pool, The security guard at the beach stopped me and would not let me proceed. I informed her I was meeting friends here we’re going to eat and drink like yesterday, She she could barely speak English and was very adamant about not letting me pass, It seems like she was guarding Fort Knox. I’m obviously a tourist not a local. What a shame, Such a nice hotel with such a POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I would suggest stay at the El San Juan. It’s much nicer and they are very service orientated and customer friendly.
