    Awesome Hilton Maui Experience

My wife and I (age 70 walking with a cane) stayed a week at the Hilton Vacation Club in May, 2025 for our 30th wedding anniversary. We thoughly enjoyed the experience. Our observations. Uber. We used Uber 10 times during our trip. Response times were a good 5-10 minutes, except the last one. The response time going back to the airport was nearly an hour. We had been warned by a kind driver about that response time so we factored that into our departure time. Uber cost $70 and 45 minutes for the trip to or from the airport. We did not rent a car. That scary crowded two lane drive along the cliffs around the mountain to and from the airport was too much for us. Eating Options. Hilton acquired this property when it purchased Diamond Resorts three years ago. They are actively working on increasing the food options. A very good breakfast buffet for $24.95 was offered from Saturday through Wednesday: eggs, bacon sausage, fried rice, potatoes, pastries, French toast, coffee juices and fruit, etc. No cereal or oatmeal for kids however. You did not have to eat a full buffet breakfast. You could order individual breakfast items too, The Hilton had nightly specials, including prime rib, BBQ ribs & chicken teriyaki on various nights. The large portion chicken teriyaki and beef with vegetables was great. You could buy pizza and good size chicken wings all day. The food could be served in a to-go box or on a plate. We loved sitting down eating at the tables in the bar overlooking the pool area. We loved the all-day smoothies. Three days we ate at the very nice Beach Club Restaurant right next door just a few steps along the beach walkway past the gas grills at the Astor resort. We ate large portion omelets and shrimp fettuccine there. They have great ocean views there. We also took Uber to both the beachside Hula Grill and Duke’s Beach House for dinner along the beach at sunset. The food and experience were very nice. With all the food options and the snacks, souvenirs, health care products, and supplies available at the Hilton Gift Shop, we found it unnecessary to go to the grocery store across the street or to the Safeway down the street. Luau. We took Uber to and from the Mai Nui Luau at the Sheraton mid-week. The 3-hour show was awesome and the food was good but not great. More seasoning was needed. I loved the purple sweet potatoes. The Sheraton arranged for a golf cart to drive us to and from the luau. We did not have to wait in line. We were allowed to sit down. We booked preference seating a month in advance and were seated at table 1. You are seated according to your booking date. We were able to take some great pictures with our IPhone. There is no reason not to book in advance since you cancel up until 24 hour in advance at all luaus. The Sheraton luau is not for persons in wheelchairs or with serous mobility problems because it is on the lawn and is self-served. Also there were no kid friendly foods on the luau. A 7 year picky eating girl seated next to me was not very happy that there were no kid friendly foods. We later cancelled a cruise luau for the weekend because we found out that it was self-serve without enough seating options. There are a lot of luaus. Do your research. Pool/Balcony. We Stayed in the Ohana (family) wing in an 800 square foot one bedroom ocean view suite. We had shade covering the balcony after 12 noon. Nearly one-third of the pool area is shaded in the morning hours. The shade slowly recedes until the pool area is in full sun after 12 noon. Soft Hawaiian music is played in the pool area, Also on several days around 5 pm a musician played live music on the bar area overlooking the pool. Maui Craft Fair (open only on Sundays). We took Uber to and from the Maui Craft Fair just down the street in Lahaina. It is small but we were able to buy souvenir shirts, coconut bowls and magnets. The big craft show on Saturdays near the airport was too far away. Prices were high: $25 T-shirts. $45 Hawaiian shirts. Problems. The Spectrum cable TV service was out the last two days we were at the Hilton. We used the Spectrum TV app on our IPhone to continue to see & hear our TV programs. It would have been nice if the Hilton had provided free DVD movie rentals while the TV was out. You could rent movies at the gift shop for $4. The TV problem along with the fact that the pool heater was out a couple of days prevents us from giving our experience a five star rating.

    Room like an apartment

Reserved this for a family of four. The property is older, recently acquired by Hilton Grand Vacations. It is in a row of resorts but somewhat out of the way, on the other side of Lana'I, which was devastated by fire. The room itself was great, a large 2 bedroom with 2 showers, a large wrap around balcony, full dining area with kitchen. The master suite had sinks, a soaking tub and separate shower and was as large as some hotel rooms. It would be great for extended stay as it is expansive. The second bedroom had two twin beds and the living room had a pull out couch. Staff were friendly and helpful, the gift shop was lovely and had great souvenirs. The pool area was lovely and there was a lounge area. While there is beach access, the beaches in Hawaii can't be privately owned and it is shared with the other resorts. Therefore, there isn't the usual setup of loungers. The shore is also kind of rocky. There is a food truck park just outside the resort entrance, easily walkable. Food at the resort was somewhat limited, offered a breakfast buffet for $25 per person. While there was entertainment, it was quiet, seemed to be mostly retirees. There's a luau at the hotel, which I didn't know until after I reserve a luau elsewhere. There's a small shopping center across the street, with a few restaurants. Newer, upscale shopping center around 10 minutes away. There's game room downstairs, ping pong, mini golf etc but the amenities all closed at 6 pm which made it hard to enjoy them. Again, seemed geared to the early birs set. Overall, nice hotel, not as many "frills" as elsewhere, but it worked because we were off enjoying the island.

    Anywhere but here

It’s hard to believe that Hilton would allow a property like this to become so dated. Everything! Lousy internet, cable tv not working, can’t cook in the rooms, pool was overheated and dirty, etc. As much as we like most Hilton properties, this one is a one and done. We won’t be back!

    Very meh

Overall a very meh resort. Compared to the other resorts up and down the beach this one needs to step up big time. Everything inside the building and your room is very dated. The pool heater doesn’t work(seems like an ongoing issue) and there is no pool side service. That to me is a very basic resort amenity. Honestly I wouldn’t return and would spend more money to stay at a resort south of the black rock. All food and bars on property close at 8/9. Also, they have waterfalls which run all night which block the soothing ocean sound. Concierge was a plus as they were very helpful

    Dated and unheated pool

I just finished at stay at Hilton Kaanapali and left disappointed. The property is dated, but I knew that going in. I picked the Hilton property to use points (also paid some cash) and specifically for the large pool. Being pregnant, I had planned 2 days to just float in the pool. Imagine my surprise that the pool was unheated and MUCH COLDER THAN THE OCEAN!! When walking by other properties, every other pool we checked out was warmer- by a long shot! If the pool wasn’t going to be heated, you’d think the property would have provided advance notice to allow me to rebook elsewhere! In reading reviews, it’s clear the pool has been cold for some time!
