Worst Hotel Stay I've Ever Had – Avoid at All Costs
As a frequent traveler, I can confidently say this was the worst hotel stay I have ever experienced. What could have been a relaxing visit to Belize was completely derailed by unacceptable conditions and an unprofessional, disrespectful general manager. We left the island early due to how horrible the hotel was. We were first placed in a dusty room with a broken door that overlooked active construction. Nowhere in the booking process were we warned about this construction. When we asked about it, management explained that the resort is part of a “community” where homes are individually owned and that they cannot control the third-party contractors or the trash lining the streets. That explanation, while odd, set the tone for the rest of our stay. We were moved to another room, which included a washer and dryer. Unfortunately, the washing machine destroyed all of our black clothing due to debris left in the softener compartment. When we reported this, staff insisted they would inspect and attempt to rewash the items. I asked to speak with a manager and was told there was no one available, just a complaint card. I then asked to meet the general manager the next morning. Despite multiple follow-ups, it took until 430 p.m. to finally schedule a conversation. Ironically during this time I was waiting I saw this man stumbling out of his on-site unit. I didn’t know who he was at the time but thought it was odd someone stumbling fully dressed mid afternoon on the island. He walks around with a disposable coffee cup. When we finally met, he showed up late and kept us waiting even though we agreed upon a time, smelling of alcohol with very bloodshot eyes. He refused to reimburse my Vince tshirts from the laundry issue unless he could confiscate it, leaving me with nothing to wear home. When I expressed my frustration with the trash on the street he dismissed my concerns, telling me, “This is Belize,” as if the poor conditions and lack of accountability were normal. I was appalled that someone in a leadership position, especially a non-Belizean profiting from tourism in the country, would speak so disrespectfully about it. The resort’s physical flaws might have been tolerable with professional leadership, but the general manager’s conduct was the core issue. His failure to take responsibility, his unprofessional behavior, and his blatant disrespect for both guests and the local community are what make this property completely unacceptable. Until there is a serious change in leadership, I strongly urge travelers to avoid Mahogany Bay Resort. Their resolution was: We had originally booked 3 nights they said they would refund 2 and provide a $100 credit for the ruined clothes. (My Vince shirts are ~$95usd each my features socks are ~$10 a pair laundry ruined was over $350). They refunded $500 which was less than 2 nights and the credit was only valid at the hotel and didn’t know until we checked out. We will be following up with Hilton as this was unacceptable

Memories Made at Mahogany Bay Resort & Beach Club
I have been to a lot of resorts but Mahogany Bay Resort & Beach Club was truly one of a kind. I love the campus vibe where homes are individual on the property, but you still have the feeling of being at the resort. The pool and great house were wonderful and relaxing. All of the restaurants on the resort were wonderful and the coffee and Rum and Bean was the perfect way to start a morning in paradise. The quick boat ride to their private beach was the highlight of the stay. The private beach was intiment and breath taking. Truly a special place. The whole staff was great and made us feel at home, especially our interactions with Malique and Chris. Will be coming back for sure.

It's ok, but would not go back.
Overall, it was fairly easy getting to the property. I didn't really understand why there was a resort fee when some of the amenities were not avaliable (private beach was closed for 3 days and the restaurants that were there, were closed half the time). To include going to the private beach. Or having to pay extra for Cabanas that nobody was using that look old , faded, and outdated. I had to call several times about the a/c being out and they said it was colon cooling and gave me various reasons why it wasn't cooling. Finally, they switched our room and there was a noticeable difference. In the new room, the TV cable and local channels were not available (but we did have access in the previous room). They said they would send someone to look at it, but no one came. I came again and waited another hour with no one arriving to fix the issue. We called again after we went out, then 2 people came back to back to disconnect the cable cord and put it back in, but it still didn't work. The next person said she would have IT come and take a look, but no one ever came back. They tried to say that someone was working on the cable line. The price for food was overpriced. When you could just go outside of the resort and find the same food for a cheaper price. I was just very disappointed overall. Seem to be overpriced. Unfortunately I wouldn't stay there again.

Beach club at Mahogany Bay
The beach club was amazing. The boat was prompt and on time. We were met by Kenroy at the bar upon arrival and that man was PHENOMENAL. Best customer service of any beach/pool resort I’ve ever been to. Attentive, friendly, funny and kind. We had an amazing day! Lindsay is your #1 fan!

Aesthetic Beach Cabin
We came here on our honeymoon and had a great stay. The staff and service were incredible; Alan in particular gave us so much great information and even offered us a ride whenever he saw us heading the same direction on his golf cart. The private beach was also a very nice perk, and we found ourselves there several times. One thing to be aware of is that the cabins are not very sound-proof. We could frequently hear neighbors' conversations and golf carts. However, falling asleep and waking up to the sound of tropical birds and animals was a positive. The food was expensive, but that is expected with places like this, and there are plenty of other food options on the island. Overall we had a great time and would definitely be back if we find ourselves in Belize again.
