Honesty
Should have paid attention to the reviews! To start off I will say that the resort itself is beautiful and extremely clean. All of the people at this resort were great and you could see that they legitimately wanted to be of assistance. Rooms Clean and spacious. We were on the 6th floor and had a plunge pool with ocean view. Plunge pool was too cold to swim in unfortunately but was a nice view. Before I continue I must add that the rooms are a 25 minute walk or a 5 minute drive by shuttle. That being said at night you could not walk as they said it was too dangerous because of wild animals etc in the jungle part. Long waits at certain times ie dinner and after the shows. Pools There were no pools (main) was only peoples swim up suites in the bottom floors. There were two swim up bars located on each end of the building Beach There really is none or very poor in my opinion. This didn’t really affect us because we usually like the activity around the pool etc. We had to spend each day at the water park as the pool at our building was not suitable. Water park This was a great place to spend the day. However after 3 days it became boring even to the kids and there were only so many times you could go around the lazy river or down the waterslides. Shows We attended only a few. Main one was on New Year’s Eve which was ok at best. It was an Orange carpet event at which you could pay extra money $30 to have your child’s hair and nails done before the show. To me this was not worth it. Shows were great for younger kids and nothing really entertaining for parents Food Every morning breakfast was at La Spatula When you arrived no matter what time and no matter if it was busy or not you had to wait. You could spend additional dollars to sit in a booth with a tv. Also not worth it in my opinion. 5 out of the nine days we were there they had one lady making omelettes and some days they were not cooked all the way. I decided on day 6 to let the manager know that they could improve on a few things. Adding another cook as they had two stations so you didn’t have to stand in line for eggs for 25 minutes. This was also the first resort in Mexico that did not serve guacamole at any meal of the day. We had to ask someone the first day for some. Lunches were ok at either water park at the aqua nick or at the stations they had there or room service. Bikini bottom was our favorite and Gerardo and Armando were the best part of our trip. As soon as they saw you they made you feel welcome. Amazing service and the best drinks ever! Dinner was also limited no real buffet. We are ate at Piazza 5 out of the 9 days because it had the most choices. We did have room service twice and it was also good. The burger place on the bottoms floor forgive me can’t remember the name was not great either. Shops Extremely over priced Thankfully my daughter did not need to have a sponge bob stuffie….it was only $125 Canadian!!!! Outrageous in my mind. But some people were paying it. So to sum it up this resort is out to make money and caters to the Exotic members. It was not cheap to stay here and for that kind of money we would enjoy many other resorts. In all of our trips we have never wanted to leave the resort but we became bored here and it became monotonous.

Spend your money elsewhere
My family and I traveled to the Nickelodeon Riviera Maya resort for my daughters birthday weekend in hopes of an excellent, 5 star experience. We started the weekend very excited and hopeful that many of the negative reviews we saw beforehand were just due to coincidental mishaps, but instead we experienced all of the issues and inattention to detail firsthand. I am writing this review as a cautionary tale to anyone who is considering staying here. SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE. Or at least don’t waste your money on any of the “premium activities and experiences”. The hotel is aesthetically beautiful and nostalgic for those who grew up watching Nickelodeon and there are a few staff here that are kind and genuinely helpful, but these are the only positives we encountered. This really should not be called an all inclusive resort; there are extra costs at every turn, the character breakfast was extremely expensive and most of the food is basic food you can find at other restaurants in the resort. It was nice to see the characters and they come around to take pictures, but unfortunately for my daughter who was celebrating her birthday- the workers failed to give her the sticker that indicated it was her birthday so for the first half of the breakfast we watched all of the other kids be celebrated with the characters and told happy birthday. I had to go out to the desk to tell them it was also her birthday and ask why all of the other kids were being celebrated and she was not, then they gave me a sticker for her. Before our travel I told the reservation company numerous times that we were celebrating a birthday and they repeatedly said that they had it noted and the staff would be sure to acknowledge it, but there is a major disconnect between the hotel and the reservation servicer, each party blames the other for their false promises and missed marks. We were told they would have a crib and baby kit for our younger child in our room, but we had none of it and had to ask for the crib at least 2x before receiving it and once we did it was very beat up and looked as if it should’ve been replaced long ago. The food is mediocre, the best food was at Piazza, other than that the food at the restaurants is basic and some of it is plain disgusting. The restaurants are large with many empty tables, but at every one we went to we had to wait at least 10 minutes before being seated then another 5-10 minutes before being asked what we would like to drink.my husband became very ill from items at Le spatula and when I called to ask for medicine I was told to go to the gift shop to check to see if they had medicine for purchase. The water park is nice, large and clean. Take a day trip to the park instead of staying at the resort, you won’t regret it as much as we regret spending money to stay at this resort. However, the cabanas are not worth the $200+ . if you get to the park early enough there are more secluded, free seating areas, for instance by Aqua Bites 3 in the obstacle course area. The drinks are better than from the bar that services the cabanas. Lastly, if you do stay here and book additional experiences- pay very close attention to what the concierge and front desk staff write on the tickets they have you sign and take pictures of ALL of them. Unfortunately, you have to confirm and reconfirm that it is exactly what you want because they use these items against you if there is a mistake. I requested a specific spa service but the concierge decided to write a different, more costly service on the ticket that involved chemical products that I never would have chosen for myself but in the midst of booking many things it was difficult to recognize that the facial I requested was not booked and I ended up with a substantial chemical burn on my face and an incomplete $180 spa service. As a supposed luxury resort the staff should be trustworthy in honoring the customer requests but here they were not. We communicated multiple times that we were unhappy about aspects of the stay, specifically about the spa due to the the chemical burn I sustained, but instead of trying to remedy any of the issues I was told I signed a paper so there is nothing that could be done. The spa representative said he would talk to the manager and give me a call but of course I never heard anything from anyone. Upon departure a representative attempting to sell the prestige membership asked if we’d like to return and I said no, instead of trying to ask what could have made the stay better he just proceeded to tell us goodbye. I also expressed that we did not have a good stay while checking out at the front desk, I was given an iPad with a survey, but no attempt or apology for the awful stay. Beware of hidden costs like the environmental taxes and other taxes and fees that should just be included in the cost of the stay. This resort is far too expensive to fall flat in so many areas. As many people mentioned, having to shuttle between the buildings gets tiring, a lot of time is spent going back and forth between the buildings and the lack of info prior to check in makes it challenging to logistically plan out your days to reduce the time spent on the shuttles. I will note that the entry of Aqua Nick and the main check in lobby entrance are within walking distance, but far from the building where the actual rooms are. Save yourself time, money, and energy-stay somewhere else. There are several other resorts in the area that will offer much better service and overall experiences.

We Cancelled our return visit for Spring Break after this stay
The positive experience is mostly the waterpark, otherwise the hotel would get 0 or 1 star. Excellent management of the water park (which per hotel reception is under a different management and maybe that's why the waterpark has better trained staff than the hotel). Multiple lifeguards at every activity who are very alert, not just sitting twiddling their thumbs. Staff all around the waterpark are friendly and greatly contribute to excellent water park experience. We will likely visit the waterpark again while staying at a different hotel (yes, they have day passes). The Hotel and their staff is where the problems are. Rooms are modern, but poorly thought thru. Swim out pools are connected to the next unit, so unrelated guests have access to your space including entering the unit thru the balcony. Cant keep balcony or even curtains open - no privacy. They are also note heated, so unusable depending on time of the year you visit as it also fully covered and gets no direct sun. The king suite is designed with a bedroom with no window or access to fresh air. Food is great at breakfast, but quite mediocre and inconsistent in quality for lunch and dinner. Reception staff is pretty rude and need intensive training in hospitality; they are only nice at check-in when they want you to do the hotel membership presentation, after that it's all downhill. They provide misleading information and are overall dismissive, taking no responsibility for their own documented mistakes even when they are repeated/confirmed. Especially unprofessional were Isela and Max. After interaction with Max, we cancelled our prepaid return stay for Spring Break right there and then, thankfully it was still fully refundable. Hopefully they'll get more training to avoid losing other prepaid customers. I am in the hospitality industry and a Spanish speaker, so there is no language barrier or industry misunderstanding to chuck this up to. Positive to end: Concierge Wendy is super. She was amazing, friendly, and just always a bright light during our stay. Unfortunately, her position is not empowered to assist in the aforementioned negatives. Also amazing are the Team Nick staff, who are at the waterpark most of the day and at the hotel for character appearances during selected hours - their energy all throughout the day is second to none. They really make the kids feel excited and you can tell each one gives their 100%.
