Very quiet atmosphere, nice beach, perfect for a quick trip

If you want a quiet place this is it. Not much to do, I did not care for any of the entertainment, they had some shows, but sorry it was pretty bad. The restaurants were average, nothing to talk about. The buffet was very disappointing. Usually buffets are decent but not this one. Nighttime after show they sometimes has music playing or karaoke, only one bar and very crowded, no where to sit. I would not recommend staying here unless you just want a quiet weekend, nothing to do nearby, Starbucks just a 2 minute walk. 20 minutes from airport, $28USD each way. Malecon around $25USD each way. Room and hotel clean.

    Meh

I will start with the good. The employees were welcoming and friendly. The excursions we selected were the best! The bad: the restaurant reservation model was outdated. This should be available on line. Standing in the morning with a lot of other people to sign up for reservations is not the best use of time. The fixtures in the hotel rooms were outdated, chipped, broken, and sometimes dirty. When we checked in sand was still in the chairs. The bathroom fixtures were rusted. The hotel towels felt like sandpaper. Even some of the dishes that we used or they try to get us to use for the buffet or filthy and or cracked.

    Honeymoon Stay

This resort was so good to us! It was clean and the staff was friendly - especially the waiter Julio Larios - he learned our names and was so kind every time we spoke to him! Highly recommend the royal level upgrade, we loved the ocean view from our room and thought the royal level pool was a lot better than the regular pool, especially with access to beach cabanas.

Nice place, not much to do, ocean water is hot!

This was our first time here, although it was very nice, I wouldn't go back. There are very few activities on-site, for example, a few times per week they set up a net in the pool for volleyball that was refereed by a hotel employee. I asked them to leave the net there so anyone can play anytime for fun, but was denied. There was organized beach volleyball a few times per week also. That's it No other organized activities. In the ocean you could go jet-skiing, para sailing, or on a raft behind a boat, all for a fee No free canoes, kayaks, paddle boats. The waves were perfect for boogie-boarding, not too rough The room was very clean, I did not see any of the defects mentioned in other reviews. Bathroom was clean Daily room service was quick and efficient AC working very well and is quiet Ceiling fan helps a lot and is silent Buffet smallish, not too many varieties, but the food was good Wait staff nice and friendly particularly David in the buffet, Ricardo in the Mexican resto, Elixer in Mexican resto and buffet. Some waiters in the buffet could use a training course on how to be a good waiter. No free shuttles to nearby shops, you want to go, call a taxi Beds super comfortable Pool water hot which is normal Ocean water was also hot, around 95 degrees, soft sand bottom can go out far before it gets deep No swim up bar ( which they really should have!) but good poolside drink waiters No swim up rooms In-room closet there were plenty of hangars - that you can take off the pole unlike some other places that don't One morning the elevators were off for several hours, not horrible for us on the 4th floor, but I pity anyone higher up Italian restaurant - good food good portions - service OK Mexican restaurant - food good but a little salty and huge portions Japanese restaurant - food good, portions good but service not so good. Very rushed. Still eating appetizers when main dish comes. Still eating main dish when asked about dessert. But waiters are friendly and doing their best. It is not their fault they are not trained properly. we went 3 times and the same thing happened each time, even though we asked for them to wait between courses. Teppanyaki restaurant (same place as Japanese, different section) food good. Beef and duck. Duck not cooked enough. Good portions. Good chef, very entertaining The nightly entertainment was, sorry to say, horrible. One night (retro night) was bad. Lip-sync singer and out of sync dancers. Plus the strobe lights aimed at the audience was really annoying Entertainment (rock show) was also bad - poor quality singer, horribly synced dancers Only one type of entertainment per night, some nights Karaoke, some were the in-house shows. Nothing else to do. In room recycling. 90% of the garbage is cans bottles and paper and plastic. Idk if they sort it. Probably not. Perhaps blue bins? They are green with respect to no straws (not even paper ones) however. It was very relaxing, if that is what you want.

It’s a great resort for the locals

We arrived to Occidental and it looked like a beautiful resort, similar to most resorts in Mexico. A large grand lobby, open to air, with nice architecture, tiling, touched with some Mexican flair. Location-wise, it’s located in a nice and clean area. Seems private and beautifully manicured off property. Also, if you’re going on an excursion, the Paradise Pier is walking distance. Although the grounds and location are nice, there are a few things lacking. First and foremost, we walked into our room at 4 pm (although check-in is 3 pm), the shower handle was broken and is a safety hazard with little kids. The sink was a slow to no drain, and the balcony screen was broken. We tried to discuss with management multiple times with no avail. The third time we asked, the shower door handle was fixed, but nothing else. The soap dispenser in the shower also broke and was not addressed. After being here for a few days, we noticed we were one of the only foreigners on this property. The resort caters to locals - which is great for locals but I felt we were treated differently as we don’t speak Spanish fluently. For example, Marisol at the restaurants was incredibly flamboyant and bubbly with the locals and gave us RBF the whole time. Things we are accustomed to coming to an all-inclusive were lacking to our standards. Hospitality and customer service may be lost in translation. Things aren’t addressed. They look at you with a blank stare like you should be satisfied with the place and you’re rude to ask for things fixed. You have to ask for literally everything. We are a party of 4, but needed to ask for 4 towels every day (otherwise only 3 towels were distributed). The shower gel (since the dispenser broke) was never replaced. We had to constantly ask for the tiniest bars of soap. Dining: along those lines, you have to ask for salt, creamer, a spoon, etc at the restaurants. Also, the food was catered more to locals. I’d give them an A for effort on their traditional western food, but it wasn’t quite there. Scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes were served but just didn’t taste the same. The Italian food was not quite “Italian” - the cheese on the pizza was definitely not mozzarella. The Mexican food wasn’t even great. As other reviewers said, the food was sub par. The daily activities were not posted. There weren’t many activities if you are looking for those. There wasn’t anyone to ask. The lady at the concierge was overwhelmed and couldn’t answer most questions anyway. Overall, it’s nice enough but I wouldn’t recommend it to any friends or family.
