Do not recommend
Stayed here with my family and partner right before Christmas expecting to spend our 5 days swimming in the ocean and relaxing. Staff are friendly, but every 10 minutes someone is trying to upsell you something like the spa or excursions. The food is quite bad with limited healthy (or truly tasty) options - buffet is the same everyday and the restaurants were not worth the massive effort to book. We enjoyed Mike's Cafe, but actual food was really disappointing. The racoons everywhere begging for be fed were cute. Some days a tractor would clean up the seaweed on the beach; other days there would be piles of trash filled seaweed lining the tiny beach. The water is murky and lots of rocks. My dad was stung by a jelly fish the first time he went in. Night life is a joke. The woman who helped us book our excursions was very nice (you don't really have an option to book tours directly since this place is in the middle of no where so be prepared to pay more). The El Beso rooms are modern and beds are comfortable, but the AC really dries out the air. Mini fridge was restocked every other day despite us leaving good tips daily. I guess unlimited alcohol helped a little at least. We will not be returning and recommend you book elsewhere, like anywhere else, please.

Book Privilege or go elsewhere.
Pay for Privilege or don't go. Staff is amazing, rooms are clean, beds and pillows are comfy. Grounds are well maintained but I never heard any lawnmowers, whipper snippers or leaf blowers in the week I was there. Drinks are good. Food is good. Variety at the buffet is good too. Despite all of this goodness - I feel that the resort falls short for the money you spend to stay here. The Privilege status is so evident that it almost creates 2 classes within the resort - which feels weird. Privilege guests will have drinks delivered, and get reservations at the restaurants, before non-privilege. I overheard many non Privilege guests saying that they simply could not get reservations so they ate at the buffet nightly. I enjoyed the buffet but I also appreciated the nice meals where we were served, so I can certainly understand the frustration - especially if they believed that as long as they logged into the app to book a restaurant reservation at 10am sharp they could get one. So 2 very different experiences being privileged or not. We tipped well and often, but our service got slower if we didn't tip every time a set of drinks arrived. (The exception to this trend was at the pool bar where regardless of how often we tipped we were always treated the same way.) One of the biggest issues at this resort is a lack of loungers, seats, or space to set belongings near the pool or sea. Pair that with entitled guests that get up before the sun to save seats at the pool AND the beach not returning to their seats for hours is frustrating. True this is a problem at many resorts however at every other resort I've visited one can always find a seat either by or in the pool, or on the beach. There just are not enough places beside the water for the number of guests and seat-scarcity seems to bring out the worst in people. Personally, I would have loved access to more authentic Mexican food and tacos and this wish was echoed by other guests, this sentiment was echoed by other guests who appreciate Mexican food the way we do. Even as a privilege guest, when we had issues with our Air Conditioner and fridge not working, it took an entire day and 4 different requests to have it resolved....which ultimately meant packing everything up and moving to a new room....with 2 beds instead of 1. That was super-disappointing and I feel that we really needed to press hard to get it resolved. Not the kind of stress I want during a vacation. There was also 1 day when we needed to chase drinking water for the room. 3 requests, including a call to room service...it never came. The resort itself is beautifully maintained, impeccably clean - I didn't see any garbage, burnt out lightbulbs, spills or any other messes. The shower gel, shampoo and conditioner were always full - despite being a lower quality than other resorts (Bring your own if you have curly or colour treated hair that needs richer formulas). Overall it was a pleasant stay, friendly and mostly happy staff, good quality food and bedding. We will not return though since we feel that we could get much better value for the money elsewhere at a 5 star that does not have 2 classes of guests, where seating beside the water is abundant, and more authentic Mexican food is offered.

Great vacation, but I would go elsewhere next time...
Overall, this was a fun trip! But, I would not go back to this chain of resorts. I just think that there are better ones out there - and, more that need to be explored! Food - lackluster. This was our biggest disappointment at this resort. And, because of that, we wouldn't go back. To get in to the à la carte restaurants, you must make a reservation. I am very aware of this practice having been to several different all-inclusives over the years. But, in order to make a reservation, you must log in to their app at 10am exactly! By 10:01, all reservations are full! So, if you are on an excursion, no chances at getting a reservation. And, they let the Privilege members reserve for the week, so everything is booked up. Yet, every time we walked by the restaurants, they were only half full, at that. That leaves diners with the buffet. It was hit or miss. Just not the authentic Mexican we were hoping for. The 2 restaurants that we were able to book (Italian and French) were pretty good. Staff - awesome! Everyone was super friendly, helpful, and hard working. Pools - we stayed mostly at the big pool. The swim up bar pool was great, but very deep. Ladies, if you're short like me, it will not be comfortable to spend the day there. Lounge chairs are all filled up by 7am. My hubby woke up at 4:30 one morning and went to get us some chairs. We came down after breakfast (about 9am) and people had moved our towels and clips so they could use them. Very not cool! You're "not supposed" to reserve chairs, but everyone does, so you have to play the game. Stealing someone else's chair is just plain rude. Drinks - pretty good selection of fun drinks. Joelle at the big pool was awesome! Our "drink lady" at the big pool was AWESOME! Super friendly and always asking if you needed something. No complaints here!!! Tip - bring insulated cups. The ice will only last a few minutes in the humid conditions. The cups helped us enjoy our bevvies longer. We didn't encounter too many obnoxious drunks, so that was a plus! Lol! Room - HUGE! We had ocean view, junior suite - room 12407 (4th floor) Loved it! But, cleaning crew does not empty the dehumidifier. We did that around 2-3 times a day. It was needed as the humidity is pretty high there. Transportation was fantastic! We had Amstar for our airport transfer and the vehicles were clean, a/c was good, and drivers were on time. We used Uber to go to Puerto Morelos for a fishing charter - each way was only about $8. WiFi was strong - never had an issue using our phones. Seaweed - we went in to this trip knowing that the beach would not be super great. Our first day was low wind, so we ventured down to the beach. No seaweed, but murky water from the waves. The rest of the trip was very windy and tons of seaweed on the beach. They rake it up around noon each day. Never bothered us, though. (We ended up doing a Catamaran excursion to Isla Mujeres and spent several hours at one of the most beautiful beaches we've encountered!) Entertainment - I tried pickleball just once. Not the most organized and hard to play on the turf, so I didn't go back. We attended shows each night. They were entertaining and pretty good (our fave was the Michael Jackson night! Fire show was a close second). Be prepared for the "time share" (for lack of a better term) employees that will hound you - albeit nicely - to attend their presentation to upgrade and become a Privilege member. We agreed to give in and attend and got a free couples massage out of it. If you like massages, it's worth it! Or, you can pay about $300 out of pocket for the couples massage - an hour and a half of our time, seeing the property, was worth it to us. Property - they do a great job keeping it clean. It's not a huge resort, so everything is walkable. Pool bathrooms are some of the cleanest I've ever seen! At night time, the raccoons and "friends" come out! Interesting to see!! Overall, good trip. But, it's a lower budget place, so we'll try somewhere else next time.

Loved this resort
Sadly we were informed that the resort will be dropping its partial adult only mostly family approach to guest accommodations and services. This resort offered the perfect combination satisfying both families and adults only. Most of the resort caters to families while a small section catered to adults only. We loved that as one could find peace and quiet when we wanted and not have screaming crying children carrying on while their parents ignored them. Please reconsider not dropping the small adult only section! We thought after 35 years we had found the perfect resort to vacation at in Mexico. Retaining the small adult only section is really necessary in this world with so many disengaged parents. Privlege upgrade is so worth the money. The master suite ocean front suites are also so worth the money. Loved loved loved our room location. Location is close to the Cancun airport, 22 min ride. Checkin Christian was accommodating with my request to have the same room we had 3 yrs ago if available. Thank you! Awesome room loved it’s location. Excellence resorts texts when your room is ready, suggestion that Ocean do the same. Frustrating not having Luis return to get us when our room was ready as he promised. Up and traveling since 2 am so just wanted into our room to unpack and shower as soon as possible. Elizabeth was excellent as our butler coming to our room providing contact information allowing us to text her for assistance. Great customer service skills! She made restaurant reservations and made herself available, thank you ! Loved bottle water in the mini frig as well as the cans of soda. Don’t forget to tip these hard working fellows and say thank you! You will find the water served in the restaurants has a bad taste to it so bringing your bottled water from your room was necessary. Housekeeping was great, again, don’t forget to tip and say thank you to these hard working ladies. Loved having no towel card. Some days it was chilly so two towels were needed as well as the towels are smaller and don’t fit the entire chair surface. Loved the cold wet hand towels in the privilege restaurant. Refreshing and nice touch! Lunch at el beso next to the adult only pool was the best. Cubano sandwich was great. The very best though was the staff. Judson, Freddie, Ivan Joule were great . Friendly helpful efficient waiters who you can tell enjoy their jobs. Suggested to Judson that he train the waiters in the privlege restaurant on friendliness efficiency ect. He was great ! Don’t forget to tip these hard working fellows! Privlege restaurant had very good food but slower than molasses. Manuel was the one waiter we liked in this section. Wifi sucks in the rooms but works well on the beach. Beach is slowly disappearing and additional sand needs to be brought in. Great resort but for those of us that like the beach and not the pool to sit by it needs to be restored before it’s too late. A couple showers to wash the sand off your feet would be appreciated as you leave the beach and head to your room. Very difficult to not track sand into your rooms as a result. Coffee shop opens at 8am but it would be really nice to have it open at 7am when one eats breakfast. After that it gets hot fast and you want to walk the beach ect after breakfast before it gets hot. Restaurants hours need to be synced with the app and the storefronts so all are the same. Don’t forget to empty the dehumidifier in your room several times a day. The musty damp tropical smell is so much better if you do this. Lastly guests bring ear buds for your children. Nothing is more irritating than having to sit next to disengaged parents who prop a phone playing videos with the volume turned full blast in front of their kid while they ignore which makes conversation between nearby guests impossible. Bring ear buds feel free to ignore your child just consider other guests as well.

Disappointed to say the least
The hotel is clean, room in El Beso large and overall a nice appearance. Air con works but the control panel is on max and will not adjust, so the room is freezing. Did report this on day 1 and only way to turn it off is flick the trip switch in the consumer panel. Issue never resolved.Few niggles with towel and fridge replenishment in the room. 4 pool areas , El beso by far is the best, the young lady around the pool is very energentic, fun and tries to get everyone involved. El Beso food and waiters the best by far . Unless you want loud music etc then the main pool may be for you. Privelige pack is a money making ploy and from what i see ,not worth it. Also plans to make EL Beso 100% privelige, so check before you book. Evening entertainment is dreadful, highlight is a Michael Jackson miming dance show (Awful) no piped music to listen too in the main lounge, until infrequent poor live music comes on at 10.15pm The restaurants are pretty poor, in particular the main buffet. An on going frustration that spoons are scarce, to non existent. Food continually runs out and not replenished unless you ask, then wait 15 minutes. Worst buffett experience i have had in all my travels. Constant quequing outside as you are asked countless times for you room number and if any allergies. This in itself is concerning as many items either not identified or clearly having the incorrect food description., service is slow and not getting a drink served is common . Icing on the cake is had food poisioning from early hours of Friday having eaten in the Blue Moon restaurant the previous night. Fortunately the wife had a different meal choice. Now sunday and still ill, not been off the hotel resort to eat , thankfully going home tomorrow. I believe the hotel is managed poorly. No visibility, no one walks around to ask how your holiday is going, trying to find out about their customers, getting feedback to help make continual improvements and ensure standards are where they should be. This hotel needs a reality check
