Feb 01, 2026Charming but Thin Walls
I really don't like to write bad reviews but since I rely on reviews so much, I have to be honest! We were quite disappointed by our stay at Portofino. First, I would like to say that the staff were absolutely amazing and helpful when we needed them! The food was delicious and the grounds were very nice. But... the rooms we were in were very noisy and we got terrible sleep the 3 days that we were there which really affected our enjoyment of the island. I booked a beach view suite, not realizing it was under another unit. The people above us were stomping around, knocking on things, and dropping things on the wooden floor above us all night long, like 12 am, 2 am, 4 am, and finally when they woke up at 5:30 am and were the loudest. We were on our honeymoon and this was honestly infuriating. The staff moved us into another room, graciously, but as much as the thatch roof is charming, we could hear literally everything, including the tractors that arrived to start cleaning the beach at 5:30 am and the staff setting up for breakfast at 6 am. The final night, a dog was barking outside our room, uninterrupted, for the entire night and we didn't sleep a wink. For a $1000 stay, this is unacceptable in my opinion. We were really looking forward to this stop being our rest days during the trip. As cute as this resort is, be very careful and specific on the rooms you book so you do not end up like us!

Jan 19, 2026Perfect trip to Belize at Portofino Resort and Carpe Diem charters for Reef Activities
The resort was exactly as described. The location and grounds were beautiful. Our cabana was perfect. We walked right onto the soft sand and steps from the pool and sea. All the staff were super from the hosts, bartenders, restaurant team, ground keepers and security with dog Max. Plus having the charter Carpe Diem on the dock made it so easy to do reef activities and that team was super! We loved Belize and staying on North side of island where was so chill, but yet many restaurant options nearby. Easy to rent a golf cart to get around island, and fun to go into San Pedro for a day. We will go back to Belize and Portofino and scuba and snorkel with Chris and ML at Carpe Diem! And highly recommend to anyone looking for more laid back, but beautiful place to stay. We met many people on our stay at other resorts who would come back in the evening just to dine at Portofino. Or use Carpe Diem for reef activities.

A resort to return to!
This was our second time at Portofino. We were married here last year and returned for our 1st Anniversary. Portofino is on the north side and in more of a secluded location. However, we enjoyed the quiet scene to settle into our vacation. Also, we rented a golf cart for a couple days to tour around the area. And of course, did a snorkeling tour with Carpe Diem (amazing). This resort goes above and beyond for service. We had our own private table on the beach for our anniversary dinner and the lobster was delish. Actually, every meal was had at the restaurant was top notch. We stayed in the treetop suite which was large and overlooked the pool. The pool was not crowded and was a very refreshing dip after a hot day. (Even if the forecast says rain, it barely rains at this time) The staff is very welcoming and friendly. Jason, who is the bartender, makes the best margaritas and was very delightful to talk to every day. It was also amazing that Rody (recently moved from Moon Bar) remembered us from last year. He is a welcome addition to your staff! Thank you, thank you to Ivan from the restaurant. His infectious smile and positive attitude makes your day! We were so happy that he is still here and will be staying in the future. He is a valuable person for your team! See you next year!

Perfect location for a destination wedding.
Perfect location for a destination wedding. We were married on the beach under an arbor of tropical flowers. The staff made everything easy. We were able to relax and enjoy the day. Dinner was next to the beach with candles.

Amazing Honeymoon in Belize
I do not have enough good things to say about my stay at Portofino! My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and it was a fantastic experience! The Royal Orchid honeymoon suite was spacious and comfortable and the food was top notch, fresh seafood and homemade breads and pastas. The stay was extremely accommodating and friendly, always greeting us by name and making sure we were having a fantastic stay, shout out to Edison and Rodi! I wish we could have spent another night, when we come back to San Pedro we will absolutely be booking again!
